Jekyll's RB182 Progress Thread

😂 I was then thinking that about the bath pic, the missus coming in and just standing there puzzled, saying "what are you doing!!"

Good way to get one's self and one's wheel clean tho and multi task!

Haha thanks Steve!

Are you coming CSF? Did i read that you maybe working or was that on about something else?

No i'm not sadly, I bought a ticket way back in Jan/Feb but knew it was dodgy with work, I work every other Saturday, obviously CSF had to fall on the Saturday i'm at work!!

I definitely need to see to my heater control. Got in tonight and the display said 21 degrees so I set climate to 17 and got nothing but hot air. God damn to do list never gets any shorter [emoji16]

Unfortunately not Paul. Certainly keeps you busy/skint though!

I do love your updates Mark. Always Eell written and packed with useful information.

However no more bath pics, not unless the misses is in them!!!!

Thanks mate. Its always nice to help others should they read this thread.

So you want pics of me in the bath with the missus? ;)

I always enjoy reading your updates, seeing the little changes to the RB etc, then I scroll down to the bath photo! Jesus, didn't expect that :dizzy:

Haha, just a bit of fun. All light hearted! Thanks though Ben, nice to see you enjoy the thread :)

:fearscream::fearscream::fearscream::fearscream::fearscream:😂😂😂😂

:tongueclosed:🙈

I read that post at half 11 last night on my phone and it took me way longer than it should to notice that your legs in that photo!

Well, if you're at a loose end at anytime over the weekend then feel free to snap a few quick pics

Subtleness is the key?

No probs at all mate. Its not like its far and im sure ill have some time for you. Cant promise they'll be good tough but we'll give it a go :)

I think that's the most frightening thing I have ever seen on the internet...

I didn't even notice last night when I skimmed through the post but now...what has been seen, cannot be unseen 😧

I aim to please!

f**king slut!

Knowsit x

Does your Mrs know you take baths with parts of your car mate? Least it wasnt your gear shifter :kissingheart:

Copied from her Facebook page:

"Mark is taking car show prep to a new extreme he asked me to get him a towel because he forgot to take one in the bath room and I walk in to him in the bath with his steering wheel!! Dedicated or weird? I'm not sure........"

😂😂

I think he should use wash n go in the bath in future

It was more 2in1 this time! 😂

😂 I was then thinking that about the bath pic, the missus coming in and just standing there puzzled, saying "what are you doing!!"

Ah thats a shame mate, i would like to have met you and seen the AB 182 :(

So this morning I tried to undo my breather pipe i temporarily fitted so i could take it to work to make the ally joiner for it. It was bloody tight and upon removing it, i broke the upper pipe off my expansion bottle. This was at 6:30am. So i took Emily's car to work instead. Not a bad thing as it meant the Sabelt could fully dry off.

36715038326_e01185d561_z.jpg

After a quick post on the FB page (I posted on there as i thought it would give me a quick answer) it was suggested that i get one from Euro car parts and many people responded with various other solutions. Having my sleepy head on, i didnt even think of that. So 10am i phoned up my local branch and ordered one in for today. I left work at 5pm and shot over there. They shut at 6pm and with the distance from my work to there and all the traffic in between (normally there is very little, but today seemed the complete opposite!) I made it with 10 mins to spare!

35953304963_ff888f1cf4_z.jpg

I bought the bottle and some coolant as i knew i would have lost some during the day. How it looked like when i got home.

36762357085_69a0f93c4e_z.jpg

I posted up a thread on here today about swapping it over. I wanted to know if could just clamp my hoses and remove them from the old bottle, drain the old coolant, refit the new bottle and reverse the procedure, which clarified i could. I thought i'd make a thread rather than assume though, just in case. Thanks for the quick responses guys

So on with the swap, doing the above.

36762361465_d2a59b38e5_z.jpg

I let the car run while squeezing the pipes and waited till it got up to temp, which then the fans kicked in. All is good, so minor panic over.

After that i fitted the breather filter. Here's a few pics of my pipe with the newly painted breather filter and ally joiner.

Quick pic of the now dry steering wheel (not in the bath this time!) Came up rather well tbh.

So tomorrow i will stay after work and give it a good clean inside and out, all ready for CSF. I have friday off work to see my nan, and then me and Emily will head up. We're staying in a hotel on the friday night and will head to the show on saturday morning and are camping in the evening. I have managed all the tasks i planned to do off the list from last week apart from giving it a polish (by hand, not machine) so i'm chuffed with that, plus today's added mishap.

Really looking forward to CSF. Looking forward to catching up with the usuals and meeting new people. Will be a wicked weekend. I hope to see many of you there

Thanks for reading,
Mark

Funnily enough I ordered an expansion bottle from ECP yesterday also.

I liked the post but I am a bit disappointed at the lack of nudity.

Wait for the post CSF '17 pics to be released!

Oh nothing fancy, just one or two of it parked up in the field or where ever we have to park at the weekend will do me

There actually a nice barn just outside the grounds. I took some pics there last year. Could go there if you fancy it?

Shorts and stripy socks pulled up to your knees?

Ankles mate, I'm not a complete weirdo!

Cheers Tom. I think the colour works well actually.

Got Sambas on though so it makes it ok

I have no idea on fashion so I'm guessing because your young, that means there retro cool?

Nothing major to report. Stayed behind after work to clean the car on Thursday all by hand so it's still swirly as hell, but cleaner!

I used some interior cleaner that we had at work, however I got some on the grab handles. It's made them go milky? Never seen that before.

I managed to find a set on eBay for £10 for the pair delivered that are off a non sport so no tackinees "soft feel". Will get them on asap when they arrive as the current ones look crap now.

All parked up now and am chilling with a few drinks. Looking forward to seeing/meeting you all tomorrow

Looks great Mark, hope your having a good weekend!

It was ace mate. Shame you couldn't of made it, yours would have gone down a treat!

Any dirty pics mate?

Babe xx

Got some utter filthy ones Tom. Will PM you

Great to meet you both this weekend. The car obviously looks better than you give it credit on here eh, second place in the show n shine!
Who drove home though Mark? [emoji16]

You as well Paul. We had a good crack.

Maybe so, i dont know. For me, i know its imperfections. I've always stated that its not mint, has the chips and swirls, etc but its also driven 40 miles daily for work, 5 days a week, is 13 years old and now its over 120k. I try and keep it well maintained and clean but only by hand. Chuffed at the trophy though!

As for the drive home, it was Emily. I was in no fit state to do so. I think i vomited my whole stomach out! 😧

Marks car looked bloody great. I love it. [emoji41]

Cheers Scott!

So onto CSF '17. To sum it up, it was the b****cks! Both myself and Emily always go and his year i reckon was the best yet. I didnt even get to look at the track till 2:30pm as i was talking to so many members, both ones i know and ones ive yet to meet in person. The weather was spot on, the cars that were there was awesome and as always the vibe and atmosphere was amazing. Such a good show.

We got to the show around 10am, parked up and pitched up our tent.

36455718350_4f9700ed7f_z.jpg

Had a chat to many, mooched around, took a small amount of pics and then grabbed some lunch. Emily took this pic, which i think was cool. Ive since adjusted it so the background has very little vibrance.

36852110665_080d5095f3_z.jpg

After that, me and @leeds2592 went out to a barn about 2 miles away from the track to get some pics of he's lovely inferno. I took some pics of the RB too while i was there.

36045358943_7694e11846_z.jpg

36045387333_6e964e2203_z.jpg

After that we went back and parked up as normal. Had the camera on me so i took some pics of the track time and a few static ones. Then onto the raffle. Was sitting down, and then my name gets called for the 2nd best car of the show! Totally surprised me. I did not expect that at all and was totally made up by that! Well pleased!  I have always said that this car isnt mint. Its driven daily and is (now) on 120k. It has scratches, chips and has even had paintwork. My aim was to keep it well maintained and fix problems as and when they arrived, keep it well serviced and do a few mods along the way. Im not into detailing and clean the car by hand, so to win this award makes me feel great knowing that others like it as much as i do.

36852041285_db1d904a43_z.jpg

I also found out that im famous. Well kind of. Turns out my Steering wheel cleaning techniques have been doing the rounds on various facebook groups. I took the pic as a bit of friendly banter which it has been seen as by most. Unsure if @masekwm thinks so though as he was the one posting on said groups? Perhaps ive read that wrong and got the wrong conclusion? Care to share Keith?

Either way, i had many people laugh about it with me over the weekend and thats what its all about

We had a lovely sunset on saturday evening so myself, @jaswalker24 @Gus @Ricardos @MarcB lined up to get a few photos. I quite liked the way these looked

36852058315_19636a5ef2_z.jpg

36713012621_da8afcb359_z.jpg

And then we moved onto the evening. The freshly made pizza was lovely. The drinks were flowing, i got merry, @Sunglasses_Ron got me up dancing with a bunch other drunkards and then i drank some more. Unfortunately i drank too much, headed off to bed earlier than planned and then proceeded to be very ill 😂

As a few of you can clarify when you see me on sunday morning, i wasnt in the best shape. I think i vomited my whole insides out! With that being the case, i got Emily to drive home! We hit this when we arrived home.

36852830425_00eb771ea2_z.jpg

So CSF is over, but im happy that i took away a trophy. That was the cherry on the cake for CSF for me! Muchos Happyos!

Hi Mark, was looking at your CSF pics and came across this pic:

Did you get the dust cover sleeves here or is there a uk supplier?

I did his. I got them from this comany:

I wished I found your company you mentioned about though as I paid £35! Saying that, I dealt with a nice chap and they arrived very quickly. That was the price posted btw.

Don't know about standards, yours was always great. Just needs a little tlc.

Oh and I've found the pics I took from back in 2011 at the 1st CSS.

@Dr Jekyll Wasn't it obvious that I was thought the photos were great? Did you miss my follow up post on the CSOC thread? You have a habit of making classics like your fake wheel video which I also shared to CSOC.

Great write up Mark and kind words about my car fitting in well, gutted I couldn't make it and finally put many "faces to names"

The trophy is very well deserved and i'm chuffed for you that you got it, you've always been very honest about the condition of the car, but the care and attention that always goes into it, proves it's awesome really!:laughing:

I think the last part of your post sums up the car tbh. Its never going to be a low mileage minter, but it is maintained as best as i can, with a few mods along the way.

I drove to work one day and noticed this.

36337240574_4d36cf3437_z.jpg

Took the wheel off and found it to be a CV boot that split.

37031755261_6334aaf1f4_z.jpg

Ordered a replacement from a local motor factors as it needed to be fixed to get me home.

Stayed behind after work and got working on the car. I thought it would be easier to remove the driveshaft and change it that way.

37173982505_ff60ae203c_z.jpg

New boot was smaller. I was concerned but had no choice but to fit it. Turns out its been fine since fitted, even on full lock. The old one seems to have chaffing marks.

All done and ready for the shaft to be refitted. (The housing is wrong in this pic but was turned the right way round) I broke the selector spring too somehow. It seemed quite brittle? I forgot to add that i had no spare gearbox oil so i caught my old stuff and reused it for the time being. (It was newly changed earlier in the year with Halfords stuff, but i did want to change it for gen stuff later on)

So once again, i stayed after work and changed the oil and fitted the new parts. I noticed i had a small leak so i decided to remove the driveshaft again and clean it fully as i though it may not be sealed properly.

37002189892_26d99cc0ed_z.jpg

All done. Now i still have a very small leak but im guessing its the selector seal which is common. It'll stay like that, as to get it fixed its a gearbox out and im not going down that route!

36776358320_ea2e587c20_z.jpg

Lastly i changed the wipers as the old ones were knackered.

37290796851_9bcee6fc34_z.jpg

36580798594_396ec0ac8c_z.jpg

37243736716_905eb1c22b_z.jpg

Im going to change both the lower bottom arms soon for new genuine ones. The reason for this is because the car was jacked up to change the driveshaft and since then, the steering wheel is out again and i get vibration at 80mph (on a private road) which is odd as ive just had it racked and it was fine beforehand. Now i changed everything else and i dont know how old my current ones are. My ARB bushes are perished on one side too so i'll order a set too. Will probably go powerflex ones.

Where'd you get the door handles from mate? I've got one non sticky one and one sticky one which has been doing my head in for ages, need them to match!

Your old CV boot looks like it's done exactly what my stretchy boots have done and rubbed on themselves to make a hole.

Just get them from a standard Clio matey - loads on eBay

Yep as mossy said, mine was off eBay and was from a DCI. Can't stand the stickiness "soft touch" the sports have.

I also have non sport dash top and hazard panel. Just need to sort out the climate control panel and the strip that goes between that and the CD player.

Will have to keep my eye out.
