Jekyll's RB182 Progress Thread

Just gave the RB a jetwash (I take my own buckets and mitts and spray pre wash citrus before I go in to pay for time)

..... I cant sell this. I just cant.

I don't often post on here, but I'm going to just to tell you not to sell this car. Whatever else you buy, you're one of those people who will find imperfections or bits that need doing, so you'll never be truly satisfied. Enjoy it for what it is and stick with it.

With good reason, the man hours you've put in to it must be enormous. It's a credit to you! Does that put me in line for first dibs?😉

Nearly 4 years I've owned this. (April).

But 1st dibs.... we shall see!

I think next stage is engine build something like that mate

I think I'll get belts done first, then buy another gearbox for rebuilding. Then after that I may buy a spare engine and slowly do it up. Time will tell but the major service is priority first.

Buy the cup, make it mint and use it a bit during spring then flip it in summer for a profit 🤷🏻‍♂️

It all depends on how long it takes to get it clean as itll be in my spare time. But that is the plan. The seller is currently looking at other cars atm so I'm just waiting on him to buy, then the cup will be available to me.

Clock it, VHT the Calipers, cover it in bullshit shine and put on eBay for £10k 😁

When you first mentioned you were potentially “thinking” of selling to have the Cup as a project instead, I almost messaged you to say I would buy it. Always wanted a Racing Blue, and I’d have paid you decent money as not bothered about mileage when you can see a car has been well maintained. Mileage isn’t everything. But I’m sure you’d have said no anyway!

It’s a credit to you. But if you did ever sell, I would almost definitely buy it (as I’m sure would many others) ;)

You planning on keeping the Cup alongside it, or will sell it on?

Thank you for the kind words. It seems this car has more of a following or fanbase (cant think of better words but you know what I mean) than I thought or even knew. I just like cars clean and well maintained and try to do as much as i can myself and make a record of it. Im no mechanic or detailer, but I'll have a go at trying to do as much as I can within my skills. Obviously theres things I cant do or isn't worth me doing (ie belts) but what I can do, I will. Maybe because the car has a in depth thread, its given it a boost. Some people dont take pics or do write up, they just crack on. So that's always nice to hear/read positive comments.

The plan is to get the cup, go over it and see what it needs and tidy up where possible, but not over spend as itll be sold on and I'd like to make a little profit. This is all providing I get it. The owner said that he is now starting to look at replacement cars so once hes found one, then the cup will become available. I price has been agreed so it's just a waiting game now.

Not a big update, but I changed the seatbelt cover today. Thought both of them has broken but it was only the passenger side. That's good as one of the replacement ones was worn more than the other but turned out to be the drivers side.

Broken one removed and replacement fitted.

I've recently had a stud issue. I went to undo the wheel nuts the other week and they was seized onto the stud. I thought i was getting the nuts undone, but turned out the stud was being removed. I took it to work, removed the stud, re-loctighted it in and let it set. Went to try again, and once again, the stud was being removed. I thought it would just be easier to start again. When i was looking through my toolbox, i came across some A I Tech that i had. Totally forgot about them. They are the same thread/pitch but are 90mm long as opposed to my current 82mm. My current ones up front aren't the exact remaining length after the nuts as the rears so i was thinking the 90mm ones will help them be symmetrical but i wanted to go a bigger spacer just in case. Originally was looking at 20mm, but the ones i could find (branded) was over £100. Dont mind paying that for bolt to hub type, but didnt fancy that for normal ones. I had a look on PMS site and they have 18mm ones for £50, so i went with these as i know the do decent products.

The A I Tech studs come in 3 sizes for m12 (70mm, 90mm and 100mm) so i ordered 70mm as its the closest to what i have on the rear (68mm) and some normal black wheel nuts like i already have.

Set myself up friday night and fitted the studs. I did the double nut trick and removed the old ones and used my thread cleaning tool to clean out the hubs. I used some brake cleaner to get the last bit of crap out and then refitted the new ones. I used 270 Loctite for the threads and wound them in til they was home and then used a thread extractor tool and torque wrench and did them up to 25nm. I let them set overnight and went back to work saturday morning. I also trial fitted the front spacers and works out that with them fitted, i have 50mm of threads leftover, front and rear so they are now a perfect match. I also have some Carbon Collective ceramic coating for the wheels so i gave them a wash too.

Took my coilover covers off too as they was filthy. Think they've done a bloody good job considering ive not removed them in (i think) over a year. One has a slight tear in, which has left some dirt on the bilsteins, so i think i'll buy another replacement set again. But looking at the coilovers, im happy with how the covers have performed.

Came in saturday and made a start on ceramic coating the wheels. Annoyingly i found some scuff marks from where the tyre company had removed my old wheel weights. I used Autosmart tar remover to get rid of the old crap the best i could the polished up the wheels to remove the staining. After that i gave them a thorough degreasing and dried them up then applied the coating as described. Left them for 2 hours to cure.

While waiting i took a wire brush and cleaned up my hubs and hub lips, and copper greased the spacers and fitted them.

Because the lip on the PMS spacers is larger than my old ones, the center caps dont fit properly anymore. This is a shame, but has also given me a idea to make some others. I might try and do some to make them more oe looking, so watch this space....

I took the bumper off so i could fit the 172 cup PAS pipe i have, but turns out its wrong. @MrBlonde was down tinkering and we was unsure what they are from. Thankfully the bend ive done on my current pipe work, with no leaks so i left it. I would like to change to a proper one, rather than a bodge, but it seems fine so i'll leave it for now.

Bent PAS pipe is fine, my mate ran his like that for 40k. Then another mate went to bend his and didnt listen to us when we said bend it around something curved so you dont kink it... Put a massive kink in it and shagged it then blamed us for telling him to do it😑😂

Indeed mate. Only reason I changed was because I had the pipes here. Luckily my bumper takes minutes to remove, especially as it was already jacked up.

It's always nice to have the proper stuff, but your right, the RMB is doing good.

I didnt use the "loctite" brand so maybe it's not as high strength, even though it said it was?

These new ones are loctighted in, but only to 25nm, so I'm hoping that if I ever do need to remove them, it shouldn't be too hard. Previously I've done them up a lot more.

Give the studs a light going over with ACF50 mate, that's what i do with mine to stop them going crusty.

The black self coloured steel goes bad very quickly.

Mine have been in a year now and they still look near new.
