hello guys.
just joined the web site.
bought my mk1 clio 172 a couple of months ago and at the age of 20 insurance is rather steep. worth it when those chav saxo's get smaller in rear mirror though. just put some 17 inch wheels on the car and am now looking at uprating the suspension as this has increased the ride hieght ever so slightly.
Any recomendations?

Welcome to the club fella .

Lowering ur car depends like anything else on how much u have to spend ,u could do it fairly cheaply by just replacing springs from say £80-£90 up to Coilovers at £500 +

dont really want to go with just springs due to the camber change. surely if you just lower the car with springs without putting dampers on aswell it will just wear the inside of the tire meaning the handling will become less suficient as your only using part of the tire. Am i wrong?????? let me know

Every car will be different, By putting springs on the car, your upsetting the geometry, this can be corrected with lasers...But generally speaking springs won't change the caster/camber much.
Coilovers will...

ok.
so i guess shockers already on a 172 are of a high quality so the cheaper option will be to just get a set of springs and then take it to a garage to have the camber re-aligned. would it be cheaper to just buy the camber correcting bolts or take it to the garage and have it done there?

I'd say 99% of people on here that have lowered their cars by springs only haven't used camber correcting bolts .... personally i would just get it aligned .

Again shockies ,down to cost ,but the reno ones do fine IIRC in dropping down 60mm ... they obviously will perish quicker than as standard .

But as said before it's all down to budget .

Welcome to the club mate.

My ph1 172 was dropped on Apex -40mm springs and had 17s at various points in it's life and looked the nuts.
BUT if you can afford, get coilovers - coilys along with my decat are my two favourite mods.
