K20 powered 172

Got a few loose ends tide up last night. Bit more heat protection done, catch can sorted and few bits turned up today.
Gunna smoke test the engine and exhaust to check for leaks tomorrow night or Saturday

You might have given that manifold a clean or something it looks a little dull!!!! :tonguewink: Lol, looks stunning mate, hope all goes well

Anyone know what a good engines oil pressure should be? Slightly concerned mines reading low!!

Did abit more heat protection.

Also making a new shield for the plug leads.

The car seems to be sucking in air as sometimes it idles at 2K. It might be down to the timing but I want it to be spot on before it goes for mapping, so I brought an air compressor and borrowed a smoke machine.

Turns out the rs2 is leaking and the insulating gasket onto the head is rubbish as that's leaking aswell.
So whipped it off and took it apart

Turns out these seals leak

The brake servo take off leaks and the main Orings don't seal or fit strangely.

So gotta sort these issues out and try again!

annoying issue to have but hopefully should be a quick and easy fix with some new O rings etc. Still have engine bay envy, intrigued to see how the PMS manifold helps aswel

Did you ever find a fix for the solid red light mate? I remember you saying something about the snap on diagnostic tool. Mines is doing it just now and can't figure out the reason :(

Oh really that's s**t. You sorted it before it went away for paint didn't you?

I had to go in with the snap on diagnostic as it wasn't remembering the code after a turned the kill switch. Mine fixed itself when I put the engine back in lol. But I did clean every earth point up with sandpaper.

Is yours turning over? Sparking and priming the pump? Mine didn't prime the pump thinking about it now.

It turns over if I go instantly to the 3rd turn, but the fuel pump isn't priming. I got this before I touched all the electrics and was my battery just not having enough charge. I reckon it's either that or something needing reset.

Thanks all for the comments and kind words, makes it all worth it

Figure wise I'm not too interested it's how it drives for me. And it drives really really well, I'm really happy how Chris at EFi has mapped it.
It made good power, little lower than I thought but it made really really good torque and holds torque across the Rev range really really well. The timing I've had set had the opposite effect to what I thought, really improving the torque low down rather than upping the torque abit and upping the bhp.
I'd rather it be this way than smashing a big bhp figure, I'd rather try something different than go with the the norm also. I know what's needed next and will maybe look to upgrading bits over winter, but only if it needs it. The way it drives with the suspension mods and LSD on road it's awesome.

I need to raise the Coilovers and get it tracked then abuse it.

I guess that means it didn't make any more power than an RS2 with a standard exhaust manifold.

Thing you've gotta look at is the over all package. The timing changes the whole characteristics of the power delivery. Even Chris at efi was surprised and hadn't done it before with my mods.
I've never said who or what timing I've had as mark ask me not to mention it. I trusted mark with the timing and he trusted me not to say which Is how it should be.

Mark is the only one I'd show the graph too as he did the hard work, I did that out of respect for marks talent. Chris at EFi was happy with it, I was happy how it drove and mark was happy with the graph. That's all that counts surely?

If I want more I know where I can go, which is cams and higher rev limiter, (Chris at efi 'a suggestions) as the timing is making awesome low down grunt and holding the it through out the Rev range.

If anyone needs a figure 'pub speaking' it's not far off 200.

How have you joined the manifold? I have a cat back yozza so im in need of the joining pipe for an extra £80, dont like the way it looks though as i dont want to change the end of the centre section.

Looks great mate. Any track days planned for it yet?? Would love to see it in action.

Thanks bud. Not yet, I'm off to Nurburgring in July so all focus is on that atm br once it's done I'll be looking at local track days for sure.

I've got a PMS exhaust system which meets the manifold perfectly.

I've got a 172 Decat pipe that I have no use for, will be listing it for sale soon.

Ah ok. Yeah i have a decat on my ph1 that was on the cup first, but the lambda sensor position was naff so the pms shifter kept bashing it in 3rd gear! Just put a cat back on to solve it.

Looks great mate, when are you out in it? I can imagine you're itching to get out!

Just got back from the Nurburgring in the Clio.
Car went well, didn't get much track time as Saturday was wet and unfortunately the civic that has the serious crash closed the track early. I got a few laps in early Saturday but had the wiper on full. I lost the clutch pedal completely due to a snapped bolt causing the cable to come unattached from the fork.
Sunday was hot and bloody extremely busy.

Although not getting much track time we had a awesome time out there again, lots of food and beer
