Cheers guys. Just waiting on the VEMS! Plenum is all done and the engine is built so it's looking good! Need to pick up a throttle cable from Renault and order an open Maxogen too......

my hat is thoroughly off for this project, good effort!

Cheers mate! Should be reet when it's finished. Just trying to do something different from the norm as the K4M is reletively intouched!

150 would be nice. Bottom end restricts any more as I can't rev it using the standard internals. Setting the limiter at circa 7500 but anymore and I'd have a conrod in the face. Money permitting, i'll get steel internals eventually!

Hopefully! It'll be slightly peaky accoring to Ben but low down torque will be around standard still anyway so will still be hugely driveable! Can't wait.....

Ok mate. I'll call you this afternoon and sort it out. I'll leave earlier and follow you down if you want, I'm in a Preg Escort cabriolet mate, pmsl.

Just read through it all again as I can't sleep and was bored! :approve:

Can't wait till it's all finished dude, I'm really considering whether to go down this route... not sure what it will all be like on a 1.4 though... will probs get slated to as I don't think it will achieve alot of power :(

Also with me livin in the ghetto that is SK8!! gonna be a wh*re to insure (Rhyme'd ;))

Will txt you buttercup and we can talk K4M... :D

1.4 and 1.6 are both very similar so you could still go down that route and use the 1.6 bottom end. not sure if the heads are any/much different?

if you were going for a 1.6 bottom end you could get it blueprinted before it went on, that would be nice!

What do you mean by 'blueprinted'? I was thinking of K4M bottom end, plenum and cams like Davey :approve:

i can't wait to hear it!

+1!!!

Blueprinting is when you build an engine to a certain specification, meaning everything is within a set tollerance, means everything runs smoother and can give a bit more power. for example if your flywheel or crankshaft is slightly heavyer at one side it causes vibration and can wear parts (such as bearings) out a bit quicker.

its a lot more detailed and complicated than that but thats the basic idea!

I take it it's pretty expensive aswell.... lol whats your opinion on doing some extensive tuning on the K4M block? I also have to consider insurance as my 1.4 standard is £1250 a year and I'm 20 with 1 years NCB, so adding any mods to this is just going to make me cry more.

The less informed will say waste your cash on tuning the 1.4/1.6, some will say 2.0, others will say buy a faster car. I'd go with option 2 or 3 as the 1.4/6 wont make the same power or torque as a stock 1*2 lump, will cost more to get it there (unless it's a development type project in which case you could be waiting a while) and will more than likely be a let down in a cost to power sense. Other thing is reliability, there's no guarantee it will live beyond a certain amount of miles or a given time frame. Some will say the 2.0 is boring and do something new, but if it was my money I'd go with the obvious choice with proven power and reliability. Insurance will be expensive either way at 20 years old though, not sure which would cost more out of a higly modded engine or a bigger standard one... I'd guess the modded lump would cost more though, get some quotes imo.

Adam, my sweet, You can have my bottom end when I've sorted the new one out, wont be yet though!
Honestly, I'd rather have a tuned, peaky and fun 1.6 than a standard or mildy tweaked 2.0. Modifiying is all about innovation and making something to suit your tastes afterall. If I were in your shoes dude I'd seriously wait until mine is back so you can have a drive. Ben will be able to give you a quote as the tooling and processes have all been done so timescales like I've had wouldn't be a massive issue.

As for insurance, it's an induction kit with a standalone ECU. Headwork and cams are irrelevant TBH as I really doubt any isurance companie will strip the engine down.

Have a pop in mine and then make your mind up as it's a lot of money but if it's anything like I imagine it'll be worth it.....

Luv Teh Dave!

When you gettin it back? I think I might be getting my spacers soon aswell and also coilovers :) so will be driving upto your end for fittage :approve:

  LY 182
blueprinting is exactly what it says it is the engine is built to a set of blueprints set out by a race class etc
so say the class dictates no more than x bore size you would make sure you are bang on that measurement
same with port sizes etc etc its basically just getting as close to the maximum possible within the specs of the series

which is why when you see blueprinted engine parts for sale its all a bit meaningless unless its been built for a particular purpose

engine balancing is another thing really

Me neither lad! I'm not looking forward to the fuel bill on the way home though ;)

I lost track of cliosport since I'm very busy doing my own stuff, but have to say that I'm not that surprised about this K4 species evolution since is BenR the mad scientist behind the goggles.

Even thou, have to say congratiolations mate for all the effort that is starting to pay off!

Mini-valver, I envy you for being the guy that has teamed up with BenR to give birth to this project. Also congratiolations and I'm shure that when finished the result is going to be better than expected :D

Other tunners also keep on developing new products since there's never enough bhp :)

Cheers fella, no doubting Ben's ability. Should be good when it's back!

Just a thought, what route are you taking to and from Bens? You might be coming close by my way, would love to meet up and see the beast!

M

mini-valver

I'll be going down the m1, leaving at junction 18 IIRC and then straight down the a14. I think that's right anyway, lol!
