KTR stealth exhaust being sold by K-tec for the 172

Hey guys,

Has anyone seen this or had one fitted? just wanted some thoughs opinions, im in australia and would like to buy an off the shelf proven exhaust for the 172 so performance gains and a quailty product are high on the list because its not exactly a returnable item i it dosent fit lol.

If there is anything else out please point me in the right direction :)

They are not easy to get a perfect fit, in fact i've had three people try fitting it and there is still the slightest of blowing. Can't say i've rolling roaded the car to see if there is a performance difference.

I'm not sure it's worth getting one if you can get a custom one made up in Oz, it's not like k-tec have designed the optimum exhaust like BTB would.

This is one of the systems we have now re-developed from scratch. It is now very easy to fit and alot of work had gone into makin this system one of the bst available. The pipework diameter is now 2.5", the centre silencer has been specially designed by Southampton University to reduce resonance whilst still allowing us to retain a very free flowing system.

As for performance, we only ever quote a few additional bhp with any system fitted to a 172 and I did have a e-mail from a customer yesterday telling us how pleased he was with the new system and how it made the car feel quicker.

Please have a look here for more details http://www.k-tecracing.com/show_product.asp?id=1088

Please do not get this new system confused with the old version. This is completely new.

Thats the one i was talking about the new one.

We have some great exhaust workshops down here but i dont really want to pay for R&D time for 1 or 2 kw gain when you guys over there have already done all the hard work :)

Any other 172 of the shelf systems worth having a look at? also whats the hi-flow KTR cat like for the 172?

Good exhaust but I had to do a little modification to the rear exhaust hanger to stop in knocking.

Slight resonance at around 55/60mph but other than that sounds pretty nice.

little modifications i dont mind, i just dont want to buy a shitty product because of lack of research, thats what you guys are here for!

Like i said proven gains and a quality product are my main concern, do Miltek or orbisoud do a 172 system?

It's not a sh**ty product but I'm sure there are better quality exhausts out there if your willing to spend more money.

I brought a Magnex before the K-tec thinking that was going to be a safe bet which turned out to be a bad decision so I can see where you are coming from.

TBH everyones experiences with exhausts on here is very varied

dont get me wrong not saying the K-tec one isnt a quality unit, just want to get as much info as i can.

Thanks for the help :)

To be fair the new exhaust sounds good, i might get one actually.

David, is the new one quieter all round or just in regards to motorway boom?

If you look at the new Stealth, the bend over the axle looks a fair bit bigger. This was the problem with the original, and was what caused the knocking, especially if the car had been lowered.

If this has been sorted, then its a good system to buy!

As a complete novice to after market exhaust systems - is this going to be much louder than the standard system?

I am after a replacement of the standard system that sounds no louder - just lasts longer!

Would the stealth be my best bet?

I've had my "new" K-tec stealth on for a month now and would say its worth the money, no booming noise when motorway driving, sounds meaty when accelerating and I could definetly feel better throttle response.

The system is less "boomy" than it used tobe but it still slightly louder than the standard system and has a very nice sporty note to it. You can hear it is not a standard system but you can easily live with it at motorway cruising speeds.
