Leave me alone CUP !!

Driving home last night just minding my own bus. when on the dual carriage way this cup appears beside me looks over & grins, he then drops behind me inches off my bumper - WHY ???.

After 10 mins with him still stuck to my bumper, revving his engine, flashing his lights, anger gets the better of me & against my better jugdgement I boot it, he does also, then I watch as he becomes a dot

Thankyou APR.

Anyone here ??, I hope not.

I cant understand that, He was in a Cup, wanted a race, he eventually got one then bottled it.

Maybe it was someones car from here, but their Nova driving little brother found their keys then took it out for a spin.;)

Just realised that he doesnt have a Cup, unless he had borrowed someone elses!!

Yeah GirlRacer- I love to have a go at Audis alright! But first of all I never tailgate people and secondly I dont have a Cup!

The closest race I ever had was in the summer, while I was in Edinburgh for a while. There was this L-reg Audi 80 estate on my tail and I was obviously wanting me to boot it; a request which I had pleasure in obliging. As we flew onto the dual carriageway on the A198 next to the railway line (Girlracers favourite by all accounts) the Audi was not gaining on me - and you could see the look of shock on the face of the guy and his passenger. Later in the race - which was over 20 miles or so of twisty A-road - a CTR, Audi S3 and Mondeo ST220 joined in (which nobody ever beleives!:().

To cut a long story short, I noticed it was an "S2" and duly looked it up in my collection of Autocar tests - it was one of the old 2.2 20v Turbos, making 220bhp (not an RS2 - that would have killed me).

Anyway, a very satisfying race - and one that put a smile on my face as I find that many drivers of "permium" German cars cannot figure why an L-reg Clio is getting away from their "performance car".

BTW - Jase: I dont mean this rudely, but I seem to recall someone like you on here saying that you never race? Was it you?

Thats correct Ben I dont I just ran away (with APR he had no chance)

It was due to the continued provocation by this idiot & when we came to a clear road I booted it to get away before an accident occured.

With 10 minutes of some tw*t sitting on your bumper - what would you have done.

So to the CUP owner find a race track if you want to benchmark your car !!!!!.

I dont want to start a whole "is racing safe" debate, but if and when I race, I race as a gentleman - and I follow a cetain ettiquette.

Sadly, some others dont. I would find it worrying too if someone sat on my arse for ten minutes beaming like the Cheshire Cat!

Racing is fun when its between two like-mided people in a "safe" situation - e.g. still within the limit, letting the other party in front if something pulls in front of them, waving to signal your respect etc. Racing up and down some urban road at high speed, tailgating to intimidate and with only the actual aim of winning in your mind is the opposite.

Dont think so mate - Ive wasted S3s all the time! Sounds like a dicky thing to do, but the CUP is a quicker car sorry to say!

Look at the stats for the S3 - o-60 in the same as a 172!!!! Dont know what ur looking at mate! And because the cup is quicker than the 172, me thinke mesa win - which I do generally!

So there........................

Looking forward to the quarter mile action this year - that should settle a few of these cars being faster than other cars debates. :D

  Clio v6

"The software for the S3, is available in a 1.4 bar configuration (available for the newer VVT engine only) and produces 262 horsepower and 270 ft. lbs respectively."

Well if Jases Audi fits the above, then maybe the CUP still needs to shed a few kilos. Convertable, single seater with nitros maybe?

I asked for the spec on the Audi as I am thinking of going for something that attracts zero attention on the road.

Isnt this the same Jase who has a Caterham and has the audi as a runabout? What a waste of money uprating the S3, you dont seem to realise the power isnt a problem, its the handling! The S3 was one of the most dullest performance cars ive ever had the displeasure of driving surely if this young upstart was tailgating you you would indicate, pull over, and let him pass?

I notice jase, the three times ive seen you on these forums you seem to be trying to pigeon hole us as boy racers and to generally have a moan. Please, either join us all as car enthusiasts, or f**k off.

Well, if the 16v is an example to go by, then a truly, truly fast Cup is about ten years away. I bet BB are just starting the development process now!

I was thinking about doing sunstrips?! Saw a classic roar up behind me the other day. It was a standard fiesta with a sunstrip that when you looked at through your mirror it read MOVE OVER. Made me chuckle!

Oh, and I did move over as couldnt compete with his 1.4 power!

Cup size what planet do you live on? A APR s3 will beat ur Cup pretty easily, a standard one will the same but above 100 the standard S3 will beat u.

CupSize

That link was the 0-62 timed at 6.6 and was the standard manufacturers claims, as opposed to 6.9 for the Cup. Ive seen the S3 timed at very low 6s, and APR I would imagine would be high 5s!!

In a straight line an ordinary S3 will give a cup a hard time, on a race track, the cup will give even a APR S3 a hard time.

Why is everyone so obsessed with 0-60 times? A 7 litre Bently turbo R WILL match a cup 0-60!! Doesnt say a lot though does it? The cup should put in lap times 5 seconds quicker on a decent track.

As for the the 355 Adi, Ive had the pleasure of driving one (sorry, thrashing one) around thruxton, thanks to my luverly girliefriend, all I can say is; were the keys in it? Check out the BHP/Tonne, still one of the best there is.

Unfortunately renault got the standard time for the cup wrong - all the mags CCC, EVO, Autocar, CAR etc timed a fresh factory one at 6.5secs standard. And the S3 is a hell of a lot heavier - na S3 dont intimidate me at all, in fact not much does other than a motorbike,an M3/Porsche GT3/Evo 5/6 or STi but then again whats in a sec or so to 60! Like u say its Power to weight/ 0-100 times and Torque Im interested in - roll on next month for my visit to me dealers to get the R-Sport mods fitted! Ready next month according to phone call today!

No offence mate but how you can think an S3 is good around a track is beyond me. The S3 is essentially FWD, relying on the haldex diff to transfer some torque to the back when it cant deal with it at the front producing really bad on the limit handling. It basically has FWD whenever you lift off, which is crap. There is also little feel/feedback from the wheel. I drove a superchipped one extensively which may of acentuated the problem but i doubt the standard S3 is any better. Power to weight isnt that good, it weights much more than a normal small car, i believe anything over 1200kg is too heavy!! Overall it is a very emotionless car, suited for the autobahn only.

  CTR EK9 turbo

Jase1 - nice to see youve been toasting it on the roads! ;)

I think in a straight line an APR-equipped S3 would leave a lot of things as its been modded. (more boost)

Now a standard S3 is a different kettle of fish. I had an organised toast with one a while back - i mentioned it on here. From about 20mph in 2nd to *40mph in 5th we were totally even. (private airstrip) If anything i was reeling him in on the 3rd gear but i let him over take (a plane that was taxiing) and had to slow down and back off from going up his rear. I could hold higher speeds around a long sweeping bend (his back end was boating something cronic) and if id had more bottle id have overtaken, but it wouldv been too dodgy. This was a brand new S3 (02 reg) and the driver was a definate nutter (snorted a line of coke after our toast) oh dear.

Perhaps I didnt word that too well, what I was trying to say is f*ck 0-60, on a racetrack with lots of nice corners a cup will severely embaress a lot of cars that might be able to keep up in a straight line. Cars that cost a hell of lot more cash. But not a 355 maranello!

Thats the only way you are going to really prove anything. A cup - or a 172 for that matter may not be a quality motor, but for the cash you are getting more power to weight and handling (not to mention brakes, etc, FUN) per dollar than any other motor off a production line.

Interesting thread, well im happy with my two cars (& two personalities).

With the extra bhp on the road I think their would not be many cars (If I was daft enough :p- (again to raise to the occasion)) that would give me much bother.

Im not really worried what the S3 is like round (yes I agree anything over 1100 kg is too much work) the track - although I have taken a colleagues round a track & kept up with most things - haldex is really not that bad at all, comes in handy in the wet.

Ive driven the 172 (road & track) - just didnt like the gibbon like driving position & sloppy gear change, but found it great fun especially on the limit & past it woops - Im yet to drive the cup !

Anyway to me the S3 is my GT car, the caterham for the track - the best place for high speed antics.

Happy motoring :D

Cupsize,

Most manufacturers have different 0-60 times than that of the mags. Its basically to cover themselves. If they say the car can do 0-60 in 6.5 then they wil be open to critisism from people who are unable to achieve this! So they say 6.9, then you pull a 6.5 out of the bag, hey presto, your happy!!

Evo actually claimed 0-62 in 6.5 which would mean a lower 0-60 by about 0.2/0.3 secs! But hey whos counting!

Increasing torque and getting 0-100 times down will I think become the next challenge amongst all us car enthusiasts! Its funny when u talk to bikers and ask whats the 0-60 and they laugh and state "U mean 0-120 in about 6/7 secs!"

0-60, 0-100, 60-100 etc etc

Wonderful - mans obsession with numbers, my G/F says its all to do with mans best friend - typically the smaller the greater the obsession
