MarkCup's Fiesta ST

I've seen a few of them, look nice but don't stand out enough on the road for me.

What Hot Hatch does unless it a garish colour ? VW certainly do not.

Unless it's a Renault Sport with decals covered all over it or a Type R with a huge wing.

Not mine, and not strictly relevant comparing the two, but interesting nonetheless. No report from him of the ESC intruding when it's off (as Chris Harris reported) and he had it moving about well enough for it to try and bring him back.

Six weeks to go until I can find out for myself.

Other news? There's none. 1,400 miles on the clock now, still loving it. Still found no irritating little issues, still fight the urge to take detours on the way in/home every day.

I've been driving like a tool for this last fill up...lowest I've seen is 36mpg. Before I started booting it everywhere I was seeing low forties.

Another 1,000 miles on it and I'll be hitting 40 as a matter of course and able to eek 50 out of it without trouble I think.

Symposer seems to have hardened a little too...sounds a bit more 'metallic' at 5k+ rpm...which is precisely why I only have 36mpg showing LOL

Yeah my symposer "came to life" at about 2k sounds much better now.

sounds like the 1.6 is regularly about 10mpg better off than the 2.0

Very very impressive. Just watch and see how much that simple stat of Mpg changes peoples opinions toward them and has ore people looking to buy. Day and age we are in. Speed, fun and fuel economy is hard to find.

Bravo Ford.

  S4 Avant
mpg figures are staggering.

Does make it hard justifying running an old gas guzzler, when modern cars are coming out with power and economy I could only dream of!

  clio diesel
I think you can eek 50 mpg out of a williams. I think people give old cars a bad rap in the fuel economy stakes. I can certainly get 45 mpg+ on a long run. But for a modern lard car that is good, i am surprised. Certainly makes the 200 and 197 look bad.

  Fiesta ST
Today is pick up day for mine !!!

Looking forward to seeing whether its as good as you say Mark

  Fiesta ST
Half 5 as I'm working all day, unfortunately I will be driving it home and it will be parked on the drive until Monday as I'm away from tomorrow morning aswell. I have next week off though so will be able to get a good few miles on it. I will try get a few pics up tonight if I have time

Very nice Mark!

My missus has a new fiesta tdci Eco and its a great little car, so I can imagine these are awesome fun to drive.

As Gally mentioned, its hard to ignore these new smaller engine turbo'd cars. Power and economy. Although I do like revving an NA engine, it will be hard to over look these types of cars a few years down line

Any track days in the pipeline

Just the one in August at Goodwood...looking forward to it hugely as I've not managed to get out at Goodwood for a couple of years now.

I'm expecting to be disappointed a little by my ST on track...there's not much point holding on to these right to the redline so it's going to take some getting used to what with having to shift so I drop back down to 3k rpm instead of the 5k rpm I always aimed for in my 200.

Having said that the traction the ST finds is nothing short of remarkable so I think lap-time wise I'll see a marked improvement on my 172 Cup and 200 times there. It just won't feel quite so manic.

Not yet. Just clicked over 1,000 miles in the last couple of days, will be up to approx 2,500 early in August when I get to boot it around Goodwood...can't wait for that.

My mixed driving isn't really typical as I spend my entire life plodding (and sometimes flying) along minor A and B roads...no motorways, no cities, no junctions/lights/roundabouts and no traffic.

The tank is actually slightly bigger than the Clio at 56 litres...so you will at least get the same range as you currently do, but you'll likely get a whole lot more.

My engine's loosening up and economy is improving all the time...I'm seeing 38-40mpg at the moment where in my 200 I would have had 32-34mpg...so over a full tank that's roughly 70 miles extra range.

the tank on the fiesta is 42 litres :S

have you done any brim to brim calculations yet ?

My A1 Makes some grim statistics http://www.fuelly.com/driver/daydotz/a1 with its 45 litre tank :(

No it isn't...the facelifted Fiesta has a 56 litre tank...pre-facelift were 42 litres.

Brim to brim? That's all I ever do. Once I've enough fill-ups for a few charts I'll update and upload.

I know...it's caused much confusion.

This morning, with a solid 50 mile range still showing on the trip computer I managed to put 46.67 litres in...so it's definitely not 42 litres maximum.

Good stuff mate, I know what you're saying but I'm sure you'll adapt and more importantly have fun which its all about imo on track

Currently sat in my supplying dealer's waiting room while the ST undergoes its 1,500 mile check.

My ownership experience so far has been flawless. New car syndrome I know and I'm sure over the next 5 years some gripes will surface, but for me, right now, it's perfect.

Economy is definitely improving, before I set off this morning I'd covered 170 miles since resetting the trip computer and it showed an average of 50.7mpg. 10 miles of motorway and a lot of large empty roundabouts on the way mean it's now down to 48mpg.

I still can't quite get my head around that. 50mpg!

I'm still learning how best to drive it, low rev torque, a little lag and a top end that slowly tails off mean a completely different approach is needed to get the best from it.

The ESP is very effective. Most of the time the dashboard light flickering is the only indication I have that it's doing something, nice and subtle.

The eTVC does a good job giving it very composed traction out of tight turns no matter how much you mash the throttle.

Can't wait to get it out on track to see how all this translates to circuit driving. Based on its increased traction alone I think there's a solid improvement for me around Goodwood.

:D

Wish I'd ordered one now lol. Sounds cracking car. I'm hoping for 50+MPG out of my oil burner, so to nudge that with this petrol is great.

You get a 1500 mile check? Not fair. Renault just hand the keys over and wish you luck for the future.

Don't feel too bad...my commute means most won't see anything like the mpg I managed. If I had to drive on more normal roads I'd probably only see 40-42mpg ;)

All ford get one if you say yes to it.

1500 mile or 1 month check. Basically all they do is a health check and plug it into check for any codes
