Megane R26

Gaz were as good as expected then, shame :(. I'd love a set of V3s mind.

Yep, afraid so mate. PM me and i'll give you the low-down.

V3's are nice but for road and occasional trackday i think the .R set-up is going to be difficult to beat.

Damn you!! you pretty much and an r26.r with interior now then? ;)

how much was the .r suspension out of interest, PM ?

Paid £400 for it all including top mounts which considering it's only 500 miles old and it's over £1500 new seemed reasonable to me.

  M135i and the shed
£400 ia an absolute bargain!!

Shame about the Gaz, more unfortunate that it was fairly predictable :(

More to it than meets the eye Dave.........just not going to divulge till i've got my money back from them! ;)

A little update. Got my gear linkage modified to reduce the fore and aft throw on the gear lever. It's starting to become a very popular but cheap mod on the Meganes and completely transforms the quality of the shift. Tight, precise and super smooth now.

I also got the first reasonable pics taken since i fitted the .R suspension. Handling improvements aside, i'm now pretty chuffed with how it's sitting.

Beautiful. Looks as great in the metal too. A credit to you mate.

Good idea with the linkage too, they've got quite a throw as standard.

Cheers! :D

I swear the standard throw is like a bloody landrover! An essential mod in my eyes and really cheap to do.

I think markblack is doing it for £40 plus your linkage in exchange on ms.net.

Mark is doing some but had an issue with getting them machined (i believe the company he sent them to machined them incorrectly). He's having to get another batch made up.

I got mine from a friend on MS.net who had a spare linkage. Just get a spare and then it's just a case of getting a section milled out and a hole tapped in the right place. :)

Ok, so a quick update. For a few weeks there was the serious threat that i'd have to sell up but due to a combination of time-waster buyers and a better-than-expected deal on the new daily driver, he's staying.

About a month ago i had the wheels refurbed to make up for the crappy job Renault did originally. I was going to go for Gloss Black again but fancied something different. In the end i went for black but with a bag load of pearl in it. The result is a wheel that looks black in the shade but in bright sunshine looks like a mega dark anthracite. I'm really chuffed with the finish as i hated the 'inky' black look they used to have with gloss black.

Here's a few pics of the colour and fleck in the sunshine which i took this afternoon whilst giving them a good coat of sealant. I've also included one showing the paint testcard to show how the colour differs from the gloss black from before. Side by side it's obvious but in isolation harder to tell. As another twist i decided to have the front of the wheel and spokes done in gloss and the dish of the wheel done matt. I love it and gives a nice bit of additional detail to the wheel.

Whilst the wheels were off i decided to give the arches, suspension and brakes and bit of a detail. APC and Tardis made short work of it. 303 AP to finish and protect.

Just out of interest. Isnt the .r suspension for the lighter r26.r. Id have thought youd be better off with the standard suspension set up.

Well with the mods and interior removal that mines undergone, it's down around 1290kg which isn't far off the .R weight (when you consider the stated .R base wieght and the fact most are specced with a cage on top of this weight), plus the damping on the .R set-up is much tighter than the standard R26 set-up. So in short, no. :D

Really is a stunning car I love it tbh  , My brother has a carbon r26 spoiler to go on his inferno 225 cup hope it looks as good as yours does.

Yah should look ace! It's got the standard wheels painted black along with the wing mirror covers looks really nice.

Had my tuition day at Harewood Hillclimb course last week. A really great day and feel like I really started to improve and understand the car more.

My tutor for the day was Dave Banner (hillclimb single seater veteran) who was excellent and gave some great tips to maintain smoothness, choose the right line and work the grip of the car.

Overall the car worked well. I got 15 runs in total and the brakes stood up very well to the high frequency of corners and brake applications. Suspension was fantastic, precise and direct whilst the engine super strong and reliable. The only area that the day highlighted was the limitations of the road rubber. It wasn't an issue early in the day but later on, once my confidence had developed, I was reaching and passing the limits of adhesion a fair bit. I guess thats the only area of the car that i'd consider upgrading in the near future, as realistically I'm still the weak link and the car has so much ability. Also tried out my new Clio Cup 5mm spacers which have maybe sharpened up the steering a touch (but it's pretty hard to notice).

I'd recommend hiil climb/sprinting driving tuition it to anyone as it's such a relaxed environment and much easier to learn and progress compared to a busy trackday; plus much less wear and tear on the car itself due to the reduced time you're actually on the course amd the fact that you're the only car on the course at any one time.

It's a bit of a strange video really cause the camera man moved to a different corner after each run and then compiled each corner to make a full run, hence why the pace i'm driving changes quite a bit through the video.

Great day on a really tight and challenging course. Smoothness was the key to a quick time.

Took these few outside Harewood before hand.

Nice video and pics :)

What coilovers did you have as I'm thinking about buying some for my R26?

Cheers. :)

Had Gaz Golds briefly but they were very poor. R26R suspension now.

Would have to be KW V3, Nitron 3 ways or one the Nitron Road kits if I were to change again.

Thankfully circumstances changed so I can afford to keep it as a second car now. :)

Plenty more plans but I'm in no rush so one thing at a time.

As for the rear wiper, I think i've only ever used it once as the car's rarely dirty enough to need it!
