Megane turbo engine into a 172?

  ITB'd GDI Original?
Not sure how many times its been asked before, just wondering why it hasnt been done? What are the main reasons why the conversion is so difficult?

Any info would be a help.

Thanks.

Carl.

Fred is doing it at the moment. No space for the gearbox as its a huge animal compared to the 172's box. Also space in other areas is an issue along with the electronics of it all

space yes, and TBH, i doubt any private punter is willing, at the moment, to pay the considerable cost to really reap the benefits of this engine. I wouldnt bother unless you were looking to make a substantial amount more power than you could via any other means.

if you have £5K spare then that should cover a stock eninge transplant

there's no real tuning stuf available for that engine (we're working on it!)

pointless! untill they become older!
im sure £5000 would go along way in a 172/182 engine!

What sort of power is possible out of them? I assume 250-290 is easy, seeing as the golf etc can get that just from a chip/exhaust/filter combo from what I've read?

although your gearbox won't fall apart if you use the 225 engine
true lol
somebody told me that the 225 engine is not much differet to the 172/182 engine
exept the turbo,forged pistons etc?
is this true?

and block, and head, and cams, and manifolding, and management, and gearbox.

The only identical thing i can thing of are the valves, springs and followers, some seals, bearings, nuts and bolts etc.

They are from the same family.

WRONG!! you'r crap!

the springs and retainers are different (172 = white dot, turbo = blue dot, different spring rates, the turbo ones are stornger)

i'm still 90% sure the inlet valves are different too, i'll bring a head up with me that you can have a butchers at

i am crap..............

I'm only going off what i can remember from the last time you brought up the heads.

Why would the turbo springs be stronger though?

he keeps buying a new toy before he finishes the last one.

Cant imagine what you were like with lego, never finishing it.

lol, and if actually finish it by 2008, how long will this project have taken?
25 years I think.

I've heard rumour that stone aged man started talking about this before the wheel had been made.

maybe his thinking 2008 coz people may have forgotten by then?

and he'll have gotten away with it!

Thanks for the response, i think for £5k the transplant would be better VFM than tuning the 172 engine.

Are the megane engines reliable? Have there been many warranty issues does anyone know?

Think i'm tempted now. How much to TB'd 172 engines go for ;)

Thanks

Fred... a quick question....
How long would you need to fit the megane engine into a 172/182 without stop/starting like your project? And does it actually work? Has anyone got a megane engine running in a 172/182?

220bhp and still not happy

IMO 5k is better value then tuning a 172 engine provided the swap is done properly and there is not to much modification to bodywork and chassis.

Theres still another 20bhp in your engine I reckon for probably less then 5k. I would go for the 240bhp NA engine over an untried transplant.

any pics fred?

how many engine mounts did you have to fabricate?

what you doing about driveshafts?

is it using the 6 speed box?

There's nothing wrong really, just a crossroad. Do i get a totally different, faster car outright? Keep the engine and get it rebuilt? Get a different engine fitted to my car?
