More Issues with dodgy maps!

"We were asked to fix this badly running cammed clio 200 tuned as a package by a specialist, the file was sent from another tuner to us to have a look at. I'm shocked that the car is running over 30 degrees advance high up the rev range and if it didnt have a knock sensor this engine would be dead for sure. Generally these engines with cams can only take a MAXIMUM of 26 degrees before detonation.

The fuel map was also lowered by up to 12% high up the rpm range, this was probably to compensate for knock correction adding fuel to try stop the engine exploding.

I would be ashamed to send a map to a customer and we advised to load a stock file for safety!" RS Tuning.

Wow, over 30 degrees ignition on an off the shelf map is certainly some enthusiastic mapping for one of these engines. I have found some F4R specs can take that, but it certianly needs to be done with caution.

Pulling fuel OUT when running hotter cams makes exactly no sense either TBH, if its swallowing more air at high rpm (and if it isnt then the cams are rubbish) then it needs more fuel to go with it not less.

This is ridiculous, absolutely crazy mapping. With my car running slightly lean it seemed to pull stronger but wasnt safe to do at all, was just a test, how can you apply that to a customers car!

People really need to stop giving them money.

He seems to make a habit of taking fuel out there too, like there's some magic power to be had there

Maybe they view the engine rebuilds it generates as a good revenue stream, FLOL

In fact they must be helping some of the smaller specialists get work at the moment with the carnage everywhere!

Try looking a bit closer at the map title.

Wow, intresting read there was a thread like this not so long ago about bad mapping, im gonna get mine checked out as i had 438's fitted and mapped in november, i aint driven the car since i got it done so once its back on the road ill be getting it checked out

I'm not quite sure how they could get out of saying that was acceptable - everyone has an off day - agree with that, but every day shouldn't be an off day...

Is it a case that they're mapping one car and then just flashing that same map onto every car that has 438's fitted?

Ellen was there for thirty minutes the first time for her complete custom map.
So do you think that was just to strap it down and flash some generic half arsed file on or do you think it was tailored specifically to her cars needs and with every cell meticulously checked and adjusted?

if you have done a similar spec car before it gives you a decent base map to work from so does get quicker the next time, but it still requires changes every time on these f4r engines as they vary so much.

Thought that would be the case.

Would also explain why all these cars seem be to be having the same problems

Ktec when presented with the challenge of an rs2 car where they would have actually needed to use some mapping ability as its a different scenario to the standard inlet just completely couldn't get it to work at all, I don't mean they didn't quite do it perfectly I mean they literally couldn't even get it to work as well as the standard inlet according to a thread on here somewhere in fact where the customer goes on to say it means the rs2 doesn't work, and yet Paul, mike and me have all seen good results from exactly the same inlet so it proves its not the inlet with the issues!

*sigh*

I'm just utterly sick of reading it

End of the day no-one that likes K-Tec will listen to a competing tuning company when they **** them off, so it's a pointless exercise and bad marketing

Every single day it's RS Tuning, K-Tec, TDF - and the same usual people kissing their arses or slagging them off

Once you get passed the level of working with what I now like to call "car forum companies" you realise how much you'd never work with any of them anymore

Protip: When you find a tuning company that refuses to advertise on forums or deal with the type of people on forums - that's the mapper to use lol

Take your blinkers of and have a proper read of whats been said, it's not about slagging them off

Phil, the issue isn't with ktec, it's just with one specific part of the company. The rest of the company works very well, the issue people have had is with the mapping work

The truth needs to be put out there! So that people can make their own judgements where to go based on the information and facts that are available.

I'm glad the other specialists are sharing the information with the general public. I would have been pissed off if I was unaware of all this palaver and had taken my car there!

From what I've seen too, the company at fault haven't even been named by the specialist. People just work it out for themselves!

Well to be fair mate, you are hardly complimenting them, lol.

But rightly so, the customer is lucky he didnt ride around on that map for long or he'd have a dead engine, and frankly if Ktec cant see that and are attempting to deny it, then obviously they REALLY shouldnt be near a car to map it, as if they cant see a problem like that, they obviously havent a clue.
