I thought that would be the case, but it sounded a bit fairytale!

Didn't want to make me sound even more stupid than I normally do!

mate you want a walbro to be number 1 on your list for things you need, it wont add any power to the car but trust me i have seen sooooo many sr20's go pop because they havent been running the walbro, dont and i mean DONT boot it hard in 4th or 5th, anything over 80-90 will be leaning out to f**k on the stock pump.... you REALLY REALLY need to take the pump out and check! its only a 10-15 min job and will save you a massive bill... mate of mine did it and holed number 4 piston... hole straight through the middle, lumps of piston taking massive chunks out of the block...

the rad cap should 100% come off! you sure your twisting it the right way?? it might be a bit stiff but 100% should come off, other wise you cant burp the coolant when you fill...
 
According to Willie, the owner of the plate, he fitted a Walbro 255. I'll double check it one day.

Cap's just a tight fit, just need to put more weight down on it to get it to open :).

mine's become a moneypit overnight!

a routine brake change turned into finding both front callipers were seized, pretty much ALL bushes on the car are fecked, and that there were a few bodges carried out by a certain well known jap tuner!

I'm beginning to regret my purchase :(

brakes are easy to fix, pistons etc can be bought for like 20 quid for a full rebuild kit mate... what bushes are gone?

getting some callipers for £30, so saves the need to mess about rebuilding, so just a straight swap.

bushes are: front lower arm, rear ARB, rear subframe ones look knackered, plus ball joints/track rods too!

rear subframe is easy, buy some subframe collars they go over the top cost about 30 quid and you leave old bushes in.

lower arm is easy too, blow lamp the rubber out, cut the metal ring out, bit of threadded bar to pull new bush through...

rear anti rollbar is so easy my mum could do it, and the others are just undo and screw off, then screw on lol

defo get a walbro, stock flat out in high gears will melt and engine as the pumps are quite worn with age. good engines tho, ran 12.7 sqm on all stock internals and turbo in my old one

learnt my lesson with my first 200, loud peddle plus rain = sadness lol!
 
I still daren't throw it around and boot it. Only had to take the clutch advice once, was the only time I was too over exuberant. Probably barely steps out to look from behind, but feels like it's miles out when you're driving!

Always my advice too! lol! I leaned out and cracked a valve..the joys! haha! Stock pump is pish and if no receipt, check..lol

dont use collars!!! they ruin what's left of the original bush, and they dont work anything like as well as just doing it right and poly-bushing from the start. Best thing you can do to the handling of a 200sx is polybush the rear subframe bushes and front TC arm bushes. I've done a LOT of these.

Definitely make sure you have a good fuel pump

WTF is a magnetic sump plug??

covering problems and extending the life of the bottom end ;)

the SR20 has issues with the cam spray bars clogging if the oil isn't regularly changed, if they clog, the cams and rocker arms start to wear and lots of lovely swarf floats around the engine until it ruins all the bearings.

Magnet in the sump collects this swarf and extends the life of the engine

i ran them for a bit and was happy with them... but then had it solid bushed... and had a s13 diff housing with nismo pro gt 2 way fitted and that was solid mounted too made so much noise lol!

Can't help but thinking keeping it standard looking, standard wheels etc, with light engine mods etc will help you sell it no end when you want to.

tbh the market of 200's is getting cheap, i have seen really nice high end modded cars sell cheap... and stock ones even cheaper... rx7's looked to be going that way but now seems like the market is picking up :) always found with 200's the more you mod them they dont really make more money... so whatever you mod keep the standard parts, when you come to sell it put all the stock parts back on sell it as a nice standard one, and sell your mods on which you will make most of the money back on.

^ That sounds very reasonable.

I don't want one and aren't in the market for one but if i was i'd not look twice at one if it was modded.

Standard wheels look s**t though! Externally it will stay fairly standard, not going to be buying bodykits lol.

Do people just not read this thread, it's meant to have a bloody Walbro 255 fuel pump, it's just something I need to double check for piece of mind. It's not been getting much above 4K in any gear anyway, and I tend to pootle around in it ATM seeing as it needs a service.
 
Didn't realise you couldn't see the if the pump had been changed just by removing the cover in the boot, got wet for nothing. There is a load of leccy tape on the wiring in the boot to the pump though.
 
Finally, a chance to give it a bit of a service.

Plugs, fuel filter, air filter, oil filter and oil done today. Will do the rad/coolant on my next weekend off in a fortnight, as I'm off to collect some 17" Regamasters from Bristol tomorrow.

Old vs New Plugs - Old plugs are black as hell, supports the fact it stinks of unburnt fuel and pops and bangs like a good 'un on overrun.

New Bosch Fuel Filter in, took some doing, the hoses were ridiculously tight, not helped by me not being arsed to depressurise the system.

The magnetic sump plug, a bit fiddly to screw in, as the magnet is actually very strong!

Ah down our end of the woods..them wheels will look good and dans a top chap.

Sorry we go on about Walbro's..haha! Its just very important and alot of people think it will be ok. You can see just by taking the cover off though? Walbro's look about half the size of standard.

All I took off was the metal panel, you've then got to unplug the wiring and fuel lines, and remove that white plastic cover from the tank. I don't think it isn't important, but seeing as I haven't been revving it much higher than 4K, and how rich it seems to be running, I doubt it'll be dying on me.

Just gets annoying having people harping on at you about something you already know about :)

Thats cool mate. Just four lines and a cap to undo. Mine used to overfuel too at lower revs. The standard map just chucks in fuel..lol

Well I just looked, the fuel was over it, but it looked small and silver rather than the bronzey colour of the OEM pump, and the wiring has been chopped & crimped together.

Then you my son, have nothing to worry about. :)

(have the police on speed dial when you meet dan, he's a rapist..;))
 
I'll drive it steady and get it RR'd to see what the A/F mixture is like before I turn the boost up just to be on the safe side.

It's OK, there's 2 of us, as my mate is driving me down (DERV). Filling his car up once is cheaper than filling mine up twice!

Standard map is fine for a bar. it just kicks fuel in any more and it needs a map.
