New Xbox announced, tonight 18:00PM

Also it seems that 3GB of its 8GB DDR3 RAM is reserved for the OS and apps - that's a huge amount. In comparison, the PS4's 8GB GDDR5 uses 1GB.

This is pretty worrying.

I don't remember reading anything about an X-Surface? Good job I don't read those terrible gaming sites he's linked to.
I am highlighting how easy it is to start rumours. You are saying things are pretty worrying but if you go through life worrying about stuff you read on the internet that isn't from an official source you are going to end up with a tin foil hat rocking in the corner.

Yes, I did understand - it just seemed pretty irrelevant considering I'm only quoting from sources that have historically been very accurate at predicting things, not Yahoo!

Also, I'm 'worried' in the loosest possible term, because if the Xbox is awful I'm platform-agnostic enough not to worry about it and just get a PS4 instead. It's more worrying for Microsoft than anyone else.

Yeah because the yield issues with the 360 were rumours. It's not a gasp worthy rumour, it's not even surprising. It's not uncommon for new hardware to have yield issues pre-launch. In fact it is common. BUT if they do have to reduce the clock speed in order to rectify the problem on launch models it's pretty laughable, and cancelling the press coverage before E3 isn't exactly good news either.

But stuff like this will always start as a rumour. Do you honestly see Microsoft officially releasing a statement saying "Sorry we've dropped a bollock"

“Unfortunately, due to some changes in our executives’ schedules – including some external industry and partner sessions – we are no longer able to offer the Core Roundtable session on Monday June 10 at 11:30am.”

This.

It's not, it's just convenient. Doubt anyone is actually worried, it's just pants.

Although the yield issue does raise concerns as it points to a similar rushed launch as the 360. If they're only just now realising there is a problem, it's likely that there will be a larger than what's considered acceptable failure of units on release.

Not me. The flapping will stop when there is game news to talk about.

I actually even like the whole one box does all thing. Will help me convince the Mrs it will be a useful addition to the living room.

lol this thread is quite amusing. I think I must be the "target market" for this machine. I don't give a monkies hoot how many giggaplops it has and if it needs winding down for any particular reason that I'm not bothered about...

Will it be better than the 360? Yes

Will I buy one? Most likely. Unless the Sony camp comes up with something seriously outstanding (which I doubt, but will happily eat my words if they do)

I like Kinect as it is, the improvements they have made look great.

The home screens/navigation looks great. (I've always prefered it to the somewhat bland PS3 home screen, and now it looks even better) Who cares about the adverts? Websites have adverts on them. Do you refuse to use a website if it has an advert on it? Who knows it may even be advertising something you could be interested in but wasn't previously aware of. Imagine that!)

The fact that some exec meeting has been cancelled doesn't really prove anything either. When it comes to things like this, I don't believe anything on the net until it's released officially.

Well said!

Yes so most people don't really care about the above, more than likely because they have no interest. That is until their particular unit is one that fails 2 weeks in, and then they call up the retailer moaning that it's crashing constantly. It might just seem like white noise, but it's issues such as this that could well mean that there will be a repeat of the 360 launch.

I'm not keen on f*cking about trying to get one that works again.

I don't care so much about raw power and figures per se, but it's interesting to see how underpowered it seems like it's going to be. That would really put me off getting any multiplatform games on the Xbox. Remember how poorly the PS3 games compared to the Xbox 360 in the first couple of years? It's going to be like that in reverse.

It does appear Microsoft are going for the casual gamer this time around, which is fine as a lot of you guys seem to fit that category, you'll probably enjoy it. It's not for me though.

It's not even the reduction in clock speeds that's the overall problem. O.k, so it will be slower, but there is little reason to reduce clock cycles purely because of yield. Yield is the number of GPUs being manufactured that are failing, it will only really affect availability come launch. Which is another bad thing BTW obviously.

The only real reason they would have to reduce clock speed is due to not being able to dispatch heat. A similar fault that the 360 suffered from till they eventually reduced the die size (Falcon 32nm). This was about 2 or 3 years into it's life cycle which is laughable anyway.

This means the Xbox One is quite possibly going to be pretty loud, and suffer from similar failures. It could all be bullsh*t and there aren't yield issues but it's pretty random if untrue. So all of you saying you're going to buy it regardless, well me too. Unless PS4 has anything to do with it.

Nothing good is coming out of these details though, s'all init.

So this is where my complete lack of knowledge for this type of thing comes into play (ignorance is bliss?) but could it be that they are planning to reduce the clock speed as a precaution? Obviously the machines would have gone through all sorts of test's etc (I would have thought the same for the 360) but they are reducing it for the initial launch, then a few weeks/months down the line when its out there and they are happy they release an update to bump the speed up a bit?

  Evo 5 RS
No, if anything launch systems would be 'crippled' permanently. It's not something they'd be willing to update via Live, too much risk of failures. It's sketchy, by reducing clocks you reduce the risk of failure and overheating, however there's no way of really telling for sure just how many units could still have potential problems at launch, if any. It's not really an actual issue yet, but in some peoples eyes including mine it's bad news if true as it means the console obviously runs very hot.

People don't have to care at this stage, it's just obviously things that are being addressed currently, true or not. If it were all official press releases in here it would basically be launch titles and Kinect. f**king woopty doo. Fancy webcams and games that aren't out yet.

lmao

Input such as mine can be cynical and nerdy

LOL.

This is whats wrong with with the next gen. I want to put in a disc, play a few games of Fifa and turn it off. If a hardcore gamer was inclined to install a game, rebuild half their rig and play hours each night, they could do this on their PC's.

Consoles for casual gamers, PC for hardcore gamers.

Now that bridge has disappeared. The Consoles are now "media systems" very similar to PC's.

I rekon a company, who just made a pure games console, with no apps, etc. and a huge support of games. (Basically a Playstation 1 + Online) they would sell more than the Next Gen combined....

Its still unconfirmed, could just be a stupid rumour like most things.

They said at the conference that its runs silent due to the big fan not having to rotate very fast.

I'll wait on official announcements before passing judgement.

Also the people on here saying "they are just focusing on casual gamers this time", how would you know?? They've publically said that their main focus is gamers and games, and will showcase games at E3. I don't know what more they can say!?

Just because Sony is all 'hush hush', it doesnt mean they too havent got any issues.

All I'm saying is; neither console has launched yet, we don't know all the facts, so lets not set our torches on fire yet!!

Xbox One details emerge!!

I'm guessing that the Ps4 will have a similar take on pre owned games etc. let the devs / publishers decide.

I think overall it's as expected. Not really fussed tbh, full steam ahead I guess!

Microsoft will not charge for trading in games - publishers of the games CAN charge if they want to.

ALL Xbox One games will be available to buy on discs AND digital download.

quote:

With our modern architecture, Xbox One games will load more quickly, will be always accessible from the cloud, and there is no physical limit to the size or scope of the content provided.

Here are our platform policies and capabilities for game licensing – all of which will be made available when Xbox One launches later this year:

Buy the way you want—disc or digital—on the same day: You’ll be able to buy disc-based games at traditional retailers or online through Xbox Live, on day of release. Discs will continue to be a great way to install your games quickly.

Access your entire games library from any Xbox One—no discs required: After signing in and installing, you can play any of your games from any Xbox One because a digital copy of your game is stored on your console and in the cloud. So, for example, while you are logged in at your friend’s house, you can play your games.

Share access to your games with everyone inside your home: Your friends and family, your guests and acquaintances get unlimited access to all of your games. Anyone can play your games on your console--regardless of whether you are logged in or their relationship to you.

Give your family access to your entire games library anytime, anywhere: Xbox One will enable new forms of access for families. Up to ten members of your family can log in and play from your shared games library on any Xbox One. Just like today, a family member can play your copy of Forza Motorsport at a friend’s house. Only now, they will see not just Forza, but all of your shared games. You can always play your games, and any one of your family members can be playing from your shared library at a given time.

Trade-in and resell your disc-based games: Today, some gamers choose to sell their old disc-based games back for cash and credit. We designed Xbox One so game publishers can enable you to trade in your games at participating retailers. Microsoft does not charge a platform fee to retailers, publishers, or consumers for enabling transfer of these games.

Give your games to friends: Xbox One is designed so game publishers can enable you to give your disc-based games to your friends. There are no fees charged as part of these transfers. There are two requirements: you can only give them to people who have been on your friends list for at least 30 days and each game can only be given once.

In our role as a game publisher, Microsoft Studios will enable you to give your games to friends or trade in your Xbox One games at participating retailers. Third party publishers may opt in or out of supporting game resale and may set up business terms or transfer fees with retailers. Microsoft does not receive any compensation as part of this. In addition, third party publishers can enable you to give games to friends. Loaning or renting games won’t be available at launch, but we are exploring the possibilities with our partners.

As we move into this new generation of games and entertainment, from time to time, Microsoft may change its policies, terms, products and services to reflect modifications and improvements to our services, feedback from customers and our business partners or changes in our business priorities and business models or for other reasons. We may also cease to offer certain services or products for similar reasons.

In the months ahead, we will continue to listen to your feedback as we meet with our partners in the ecosystem to bring additional detail about our policies.

We are excited about this new generation of games and entertainment and look forward to sharing more news with our fans.

It all sounds very 'publisher' led. I can't see sonys stance on this being different, I wish they'd at least comment on WTF the Ps4 restrictions will be! I think it'll be very similar, but they'd rather let Microsoft take the heat right now.

as a consumer, I appreciate Microsoft being up front. I may not agree with what they are doing, but at least I'm in the know. Also, a lot of this seems to be down to the publishers. Microsoft as a publisher is not charging for trade ins.

So come on Sony, spill the beans!

Why don't you all just wait until it's been out a month or two and any issues with either have come to light?
