HOW?

it is supposed to be of benefit on the track i believe. something to do with constant preasure when hot.

its not really something i would bother with, top end motorsport, maybe (dried air is more common)

track day warriors, erm no

£4 to fill your tyres?

Tell you what, I've got a packet of dehydrated nitrogen in the garage. I'll send it to you if you want. You just add water and you're there.

78% of air is nitrogen. So your paying £4 to replace some of the remaining 12%. Clever.

^plus you won't replace the remaining percentage anyway, i doubt kwik-fit will vaccum the tyres down and then fill them, infact i'll put £100 on it

Costco do it as well, but dont charge you extra for the privelege (sp).

Now I realise might surprise some people but I cant tell any difference with it!!! Chraging for it is easy money!

ANd they give you hideous green dust caps... Which were nicked within a week thank f**k.

We use Nitrogen on Fighter Jets in work, here's some crap info i found whilst bored at work:

Pros And Cons of Nitrogen Gas For Inflating Car Tires

Pros
  • Nitrogen reduces the running temperature of the tyre. The moisture content of nitrogen leads to a cooler running tyre, which is advantageous when the car is operating at its maximum load and speed capacity.
  • Nitrogen in tyres improves the ride quality. That gas is very slightly lighter than air and thus, benefits the tires in terms of un-sprung weight.
  • It is assumed that Nitrogen increases tyre life. It reduces the operating temperature during times of load and speed and thus, enhances the life of a tyre.
  • It is believed that nitrogen keeps tyre pressures more constant. The gas is assumed to provide more stable pressure range in connection to the tyre temperature. However, again, the factor is applicable in times of heavy load/high-speed conditions.
  • Tyres are susceptible to loss of pressure as a result of being porous in nature. Due to its chemical structure, Nitrogen leak out slowly as compared to compressed air. Therefore, it slows the rate of pressure loss.
  • Oxygen reacts with the tyre and rim materials causing oxidation or the rust formation in the metal parts. Nitrogen, being an inert gas, does not react with the tyre and rim materials.
Cons
  • Inflating tires with Nitrogen is quite costly.
  • Filling tyres with nitrogen requires more maintenance as compared to compressed gas.
  • The availability factor is the biggest disadvantage of inflating tyres with nitrogen, as the gas is not readily available. It is usually found only with specialist tyre dealers.

Unless they vacuum the tyre first which they don't your wasting your time.
As 1 bar will already be in tyre before you start, defeating the object.
Your biggest enemy is moisture which we all see when using garage crap equipment.

I have nitrogen in my tyres but only because my uncle owns a tyre fitters and puts it in for free.

No difference to normal air at all.

Con.

i work for kwikfit and tbh the nitrogen is awesome i use it in my 182 and have also started using it in my 2007 zx6 motorcycle tyres and the tyre stays hotter for longer and trust me you can feel the difference more with the bike for sure

I have been looking into this too, impreza owners swear by it, a fella told me it stops your car from following the undulations in the road which the Clio does suffer from, worth a try just for 4 quid.

I believe some of the above about more consistent pressures and the other advantages of inert gas, but stopping your car from tramlining... em no. lol

Don't be so ridiculous. It's a hover engine you want if you don't like tarmac !

:D

Before i do, what does the remaining 22% consist of?

From wiki
Air is a mixture of 78.03% nitrogen, 20.99% oxygen, 0.94% argon, 0.03% carbon dioxide, 0.01% hydrogen, 0.00123% Neon, 0.0004% helium, 0.00005% krypton, 0.000006% xenon.[1]

Might be an idea to pop a wee bit of common sense in though!

Sorry mr f**king know it all but when ya know nothing on the subject how could I comment when this guy had actually done it. I know you all pretend to know everything but it helps to actually listen to people who have experienced it first.

The info's in this thread dearest. Air is 78% Nitrogen. The idea of the remaining 22% making a significant (or even noticeable), doesn't make much sense.

Look Kylie, taking things too seriously last night got sticky.
Don't do it again ffs.
