Noob viewing a car - advice?

Been offered a car, that I was bidding on, didn't make the ebay reserve, but she's offered it instead at what I won as the highest bidder. £50 below the reserve price anyway.
During the bidding I didn't have nerves but now it's actually been offered I feel nervous as eff to go and view the car, thinking I would miss some obvious problematic with it.
I know a rear wheel barring needs replaced but apart from that I'm a spanner when it comes to mechanical and car related stuff.

I've read and will reread the buyers guide but just wondering if anybody can give any more advice. Sadly if I do go I can't take a knowledgable mate with me, but the car would be getting a service and a check over after I've bought it. Would just need to survive the New Castle to Edinburgh journey. :p

So, yeah, any more advice apart from the buyers guide?

Or anybody viewed or know the clio 172 ending in BXU, it's missed advertised as a 182*.

*Unless the insurance database has it wrong and 182's come without the dual exhausts :p

If it's advertised as a 182 then they clearly don't know what they're on about. You have the upper hand. Tell them the car is overpriced and that you wanna get it checked out first. I'm sure some lads off here could recommend a mechanic in the Newcastle area or even come out and have a good look at the car for you. Give them £100 or whatever. Well worth it in the long run mate

It does'nt metion anything about the cambelt kit and aux belt kit being done i would check they have been if not they will need doing by a specialist £400-£500 depending where you go.If they have'nt been done i would want money off the price

Forgot to say a bout that, I did ask her and she said they were done recently, but she needed to check and will get back to me. As far as I am aware she never got back to me.

I would get back on to her find out where they were done aswell

Well I was offered it for £1750.
I'm thinking I may just pass on this car.

edit: In fact it's a hard one. It's the colour I want/would prefer. In my price range. Slightly high milage but I am just too paranoid incase I buy a dud.
And before you say, hold out for the right one, it's been since july now I've been waiting and viewing the odd couple.

I would say that car is worth £1500 tops.

From looking around I'd say it's probably a bit steep at £2k, there is a 52 plate one near me with 85k, fsh, and just had belts, clutch & flywheel replaced at a Renault specialist, and that's up for £2k through a dealer.

Thing is, I posted about a 53 plate 172, 50k, fsh, very tidy for £2500 and someone implied it would be an iffy buy at that price - i.e. too cheap!! I thought it seemed about right!

Just sent an email declining the offer.

I don't mind spelling mistakes, I'm pretty damn bad myself and hardly ever notice them, "bt spekin lyk dis" big no no!
Read an advert once for a st170, said something along the lines of "nae more timewasters, Fed up o Bam waisting my time" And then something along the lines of kicking their heids in.
