Alrite guys.

Trying to find out if it's normal or not, mechanic just laughed when he seen it! said it's almost a link slack.

Any ideas? he wants me to buy a new oil pump and whatever that chain is called, trying to find out if i can avoid that but if that chain aint right i'll get it all.

isn't this the engine that had swarf floating about in it, battered big end bearings, and a ruined dephaser? just fit a new engine

Nah it's made a miraculous recovery ;) according to the experts it only needs a few things doing to it, just want to know if this will be one of them.

Look normal or not fellas? need an answer just on this then i can crack on!

p.s looked at a complete new engineS, cheapest i seen was £850.00 and besides i very much doubt i need a new un.

Youre looking in the wrong places then.

And when you say you doubt you need a new un, yet dont even know if that oil chain is slack or not, and fuerthermore putting your trust into a mechanic that knows f**k all about F4R's.............. this can only end badly.

If I was you, I'd be getting a spare lump and fitting that, or towing the car to birchdown and asking them to do it. But, it's your choice and your money..........

Just dont say you werent warned

Well aware of the issues regards local garages, if it goes pearshaped i'll go to Birchdown, that's the plan.

Get another engine, Should be about £450 to £600, end.

I'm not looking here again, getting annoyed tbh

Not seen one for that price and i've looked in a few places. No need to get annoyed pal, only someone asking a question on a internet forum! chill baby.

Lol no that chain is not right at all, its not meant to be properly tight but tighter than that!

I'd have chucked another engine in too tbh. Ebay is all you need for that

Arrggfhhhh

"IF?"

Why not just make sure it doesnt go pear shaped? I understand you know this bloke at the garage, but FFS, its your car and, more importantly, YOUR MONEY!!!

Just say they have the lump and will fit it, so you getting it towed there, end of story.

I am following Danny out the door here. i wish you good luckj, however you chose to ignore our suggestions and **** this one up

Evidently we wasted our time in the last thread.

Seen sense now!!

Come to my senses ladies although is it rag week for some on here ;)

Spoke to a Renault specialist in person at length earlier today and wow never knew so much is involved! one false move and the engine could be in bits so he told me! something to do with the correct order to tighten stuff and how much.

He did though mention he hopes the mechanic has numbered these to put back correctly otherwise more problems!

Car is getting trailered to an RS specialist on hopefully Thurs/Fri.

I've asked him to check it over PROPERLY!

The one thing he did say was he wants the 'big ends' (pic above) put together by them as he won't be able to tell which goes with which - said he wouldn't touch it otherwise, is it that crucial?

I will be getting the following done as they need doing regardless:

Cambelt Kit
Aux Kit
Dephaser
Replacing the Sprocket and Oil Chain - Oil Pump as well if needs be.
Service.

Feel better that it will be in capable hands now, just not told the Garage that has it yet! that will follow later today.

p.s is £60 for a car trailer about right to hire 1 day?

Cheers ladies ;)
