Only a Few Ph1 172's for sale

  Honda & VW
With the exception of the one Topgeartom has just bought, as stated in his thread. There doesn't seem to be hardly any good Ph1's for sale anymore.

A few months back i was interested in a couple of good uns but one unfortunately sold and the other too far away.

People must just be keeping hold of them?

but only a few months ago they were going for nothing, i wouldn't contemplate selling mine now because i know i wouldn't get what i see as good money for it.

Yeah, I know bud.. but thats exactly what the guy intends to do to it. Modify it. Its his car, he can do as he likes.. I just dont get, why look for a good, genuine, un-molested car only to screw it up!.. lol Just my opinion fella.

  V6 255, 172's, JCW,
'the guy' is me you fecking loon.

And strangely i dont intend to screw anything up, I certainly dont see anywhere in my thread where i detailed how i was going to ruin a perfectly good car.

Car: '96 Iceburg Valver
Location: Leeds Uni / Bradford Re: Just bought a ph1 172!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

lol!

Current plans are:
ph2 rear lights
ph2 coded side strips
coded handles
low on coilovers
decat
rstuner
matched inlets
itg panel with some uprated feeds
sparco ring wheel possibly
possibly ph2 rear bumper
hid's
megane splitter

want to change the wheels but not sure to go for a straight respray in gunmetal, or try the cups on. Would love some nervasports but 17 is maybe a bit large.

did this quick shop on another 172 with the cups - doesnt look terrible imo, but doubt i'll go down that route.

I once again ask the question, where in there have a detailed the destruction of a 172?

im not intending to paint the thing orange or daub a 3ft c**k across the roof though am i?

matched inlets and some ph2 bits arent really what i would describe as pulling apart a car.

Tom, i'm a pureist. I like to see cars as they were intended, thats all. Sure, you could probably put most of the car back to standard, but alot of care needs to be taken in their removal and subsequent re-instatement to make it look like its not been apart.
It's your car, you can do what ever the hell you like to it!.. I just commented on an observation.
Hope you have as much enjoyment out of your 172 as i did mine..

next car i buy will need to be cheap as it will be mortgage time in a few years.
so when (dread i say this) the ph2 does (eventually) go, im aiming to get a ph1.
i know in a few years the chance of finding a good one will be even rarer. but shame people do.... 'destroy' them.

  ph1 172
youre not going to save much downgrading from a ph2 172 to a ph1 and its going to be less reliable (older) and cost you the same in the long run.

I found my ph1 on ebay. It was one of the only completely standard ones i'd seen for sale for ages, so i bought it. Standard ones are getting hard to come by and almost demand a premium!

I think ph1's should stay standard looking if you want it to look like a ph2 buy a ph2. Modify ph2's all you want theres plenty around.

Look at other marques its always the the first models that are more popular in years to come. a prime example of this is the series 1 rs turbo

You will not regret it. Drove Riz ph2 yesterday, couldn't wait to get back into my ph-****. The throttle response, mid-range just feels so much better. The ph2 feels so sanitised when you get into a ph1.

The back end does look very old on the ph1, mines going ph2.

I think phase 2 rear lights make a huge difference for the better, happy to leave the rest though. Won't sell mine as others have said, they don't go for much now so no point ;)

Found mine on here all those years ago

Nothing wrong with sensible mods tbh. There are good ph1's around they're just getting rarer because they're getting older.

f**k standard, PH1's are only good for ripping every thing out & wacking Buckets seats in & a sparco steering wheel to be abused around a track! ;)...:rasp:

I think the PH1's look naff "standard", but with a few subtle mods they look much better

1. lowering - Standard height looks awful for a "sports" car
2. Colour coded side strips & door handles - Standard looks povety spec
3. Splitter, Just looks like some things missing with out it
4. side repeaters, orange ones just have to go :dead:

At the end of the day, each to there own, i own a PH1 & PH2 172 & prefer the PH2 over all

Ive got a Phase 1 172 and am thinking of seling up for no other reason than i fancy a trophy. Mines is in damn nigh on perfect if im being honest. Its only got 52k on the clock but id still expect no less than £3000 tbh.

I know people slate them and whatever and say there dated and whatever etc but i genuinley love the way they look, more character atleast imo anyway.

If anyone is genuinley intent on sourcing a Phase 1 around Jan/Feb let me know as ill contemplate selling for the right price to the right buyer...

Ive found a mint one for sale on an 'X' plate with...wait for it !!33 on the clock !! It is up for £3995 but sure they would move on that price ;)

If you still have it in august i'd be very interested. Yours seems like a well looked after origional example of a ph1. Hats off to you mate.

My daily driver, PH2 172 made 184.5 - all info on the day - http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?t=340164&page=10

post 196 for rolling road & post 199 for what i was running, still have all the toys on it too :approve:

PH1 hits the rollers on January 31st 2009, hoping it will make more than my PH2 due to the removal of Aircon, power steering, 90 degree inlet bend along with other random crap that just is not needed, all in fo on my PH1 can be found here mate - http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?t=365856

Hmmm, august you say? That actualy might suit me tbh.

Alan and Rory on here can vouch for the condition (Rory very nearly bought it in August just past)

Ill need to have a wee think about what i really want, i change my mind more times than the weather:S!

I don't think it matters if you make any mods unless it's something that's OTT. I don't know why but I just prefer the look of the PH1, I do with a lot of cars though

Put your name down for the rolling road weekend im trying to sort out if it's not to far for you to go mate !! ;)

Yes mate !! lol Was going to ring it 2day to see if it the belt's had been done and that !! also it's been there a few month's !! BUT it is a lot of wonga !!

I rang about it around a month ago, don't think there's any proof the belts have been done and I reckon it's over priced, tread carefull I reckon.

Me and and a mate looked at a ph1 on 50k and it was a shed. Just coz they are low mileage doesn't always mean they are good ones. Full documented history is more important than mileage as even doing an average of 12k a year they would be at around the 80k mark now.

I love the way they look, more agressive than the phase 2's!

More along the lines of 96k ;)

Keeping my ph1 as there is no point in selling it as I will not get the money that I think it's worth. Everything I have changed can be changed back easy enough to make it completely standard and it is only sitting on 64k so selling it for £1800 (prices they are going for atm) I would be nuts!!!
