Parking sensors playing up.

Engaged reverse yesterday and instead of the usual short beep I got a continuous tone. Checked there was nothing behind, cleaned the sensors, tried again and got exactly the same.

Went for a drive, reversed out of a parking space and got the usual short beep when engaging gear, but it no longer beeps as objects get closer.

Any suggestions?

Are they f***ed?

If so, is there an easy fix or is it going to be lengthy and expensive?

Thanks.

If its anything like the BMW then one long beep means there is a problem.

Stick it in reverse and listen to the sensors, they should be clicking, if one isn't clicking its probably failed. If none are clicking the problem is elsewhere.

Just been out to try it with my able bodied assistant strolling back and forth, left to right at varying distances, and all seems OK now.

Very strange.

Clio's for ya. Just like my back left reverse light, wasn't working.. now it magically is again!

Moisture in the sensors normally, Merc's are the worst for it. If its not an aftermarket fitment then like the Merc's you should be able to see if you get it plugged into diagnostics which sensor is at fault and then just replace the one.

Odd that it's never played up before despite regular jet-washing.

Useful to know it'll show up on diagnostics though...can read codes etc on my phone so could always take a look.

A very helpful member on here has already sent me the Renault technical fault finding document from diologies for the parking sensors so will have a read and play tonight and see what I can find.

Are they aftermarket sensors or Renault? If aftermarket you won't be able to see fault codes via the obd socket.

If you put the ignition on and put it into reverse you will be able to test each sensor yourself by putting you hand over each sensor. If one is not working then its probably a faulty sensor. If not then it may be a internal fault with the control unit which will normally be found behind the passanger side rear quarter trim.
