Performance car mag - it's back! Williams V's 197 cup

  Williams 1
Out of the 3 cars mentioned - 197 cup, trophy and williams.

Trophy is quickest on track
Trophy is quickest on road
Williams is lightest
197 Cup has the best trim levels.

As far as the cup being quicker than the trophy, how can it be. It's the only one i've not driven

How did you test the 3 cars? drive them all together?

Power delivery can be a strange thing, my 170bhp golf gttdi sport feels well quicker than my williams for a split second then you have to change gear and it goes again, but 1st day i got it i raced a williams and got beat, then my mates celica GT4 feels slower than my williams but its quicker when we raced, its the same with loads of cars, plus when i sit in the passenger seat of my mates 1.2 nova it feels fast because its made of tin foil but its slow as f**k in reality

'Feels' seems to have been used a lot there..... ie. subjective opinions. I think you'll find that the 4 points i made are all fact not opinion based.

As you point out a 1.2 nova at 80 will 'feel' like it's going lightspeed compared to a clk, 911 etc at 80.
Car stablity, road and engine noise, comfort levels all play a major part in how a certain car 'feels' at any particular speed.

And who said all i've driven/owned has been reno's ffs.

My major gripe with threads like this one is that all people like you can do is base comments on opinions.

Regarding your comments on 'power delivery' are you aware of something called torque.... I think you'll find what you're experiencing is the torque not power delivery.

Power mainly effects the top speed of cars (drag co-efficient v power), torque is the engines ability to force the wheels to turn. Hense why higher torqued engines such as diesels feel 'powerful' but in reality need forced induction to create power to punch through the air when drag starts to kick in.

Plus, as Warren says how many mags, who have actually tested the Trophy, put the williams at the top of the hot hatch list?
