Lol the new update is the trip back up to RS tuning, and the 0-60 readout as above :)

I have also carried out a few more small modifications, which I will post up pictures of when I get home later

I will post up the graphs later when im home also :)

Update:

Before heading up to RS Tuning, I thought id do a bit of fiddling and see if I could improve things.

So I thought Id move the air temp sensor. Normally these are mounted into the air filter, but as Im not running a filter with a back plate and wont be for a while, I thought id try a different route so I drilled into a trumpet and mounted the air temp sensor direct, so it can read the exact temperature of the air as it enters the head:

Excuse the cable tie, this was a temperary measure to see if it would work:

This, and the new lambda probes (thanks again Maynard!) had an interesting effect on the map, it made the car run rich at the bottom end and lean at the top, so Paul needed to do some changes, but I left with a much smoother looking map:

DSC01418-1.jpg

The power curve is getting to the point where you can near enough draw it with a ruler(apart from the usual dip where the car comes on cam), and the low end torque has improved, as well as the car pulling harder when going past 5000 rpm. It has also improved the fuel economy too, to the point of I was getting a genuine 43 mpg, which shows with the right setup a itb'd car can equal a standard inlet car :)

Next on the cards will be some further testing of this setup, until my next 'stage' (as I call it lol) will be ready for testing.

I need to work the filter a bit better, as it is still strangling power :

Paul is pretty happy with how the map is at the moment, next stage is to improve the throttle response, which is what the next stage will do, as well as hopfully netting a few more horses.

Once again I cannot say thank you enough to Paul at RS Tuning, he a leg-end and his mapping skills are mind blowing!

And id like to just say the points again:

136,000 miles
Still has the cat in
Still under development
Still manages fantastic fuel consumption
No dash lights on
Full use of all ECU and dash functions

Pmsl!!

Cheers fella, its getting there, and yeah I thought f**k it, its the way to get a great inlet temp reading lol

Oh, the air temp sensor is also new (Thanks Tom at Wests!) as a precausion

  Peugeot 308
Have you got the part number for that air temp sensor?

Renault down here claim it only comes with the whole TB :S

It doesnt fit on the tb mate, it fits into the plenam(sp) though obviously I dont have a plenam as such any more lol.

Speak to Tom from Wests on here, brilliant price and came next day - great service.

Been having a bit of funny steering feel over the past few thousand miles ,well after some close investigation, my bloody rack bushes are fooked again, they have alny done about 15,000 (admitidly hard) miles.

Poly bushes will be found and see if they help

Just read a lot of this thread and have to say I am very impressed. The detail you have given is great, I feel like I could do this conversion myself just on what you have written here. Just have to decide if I am/can afford to keep the clio. One question tho, as I don't have a cable throttle would I need to covert it? Also, was there any specialist equipment needed (apart from for the mapping)?

Cheers,
Will

Hi will,

Thank you very much for your kind words :)

To be honest, im not quite sure on the ph2 models. I havent looked at the tps, as long as they are the same as the PH1, then I cant see you will need anything more than a ph1 throttle cable, the securing clips and a ph1 throttle pedal.

Im pretty sure Paul wouldnt have any issues mapping a ph2 ECU, as as far as im aware they operate the same as the PH1's.

You will loose your speed limiter and cruise control if you have them, but apart from that everything else should work.

Mine still needs more fine tuning, so id suggest everyone holding off till iv developed mine so its as good as it can be, so I can make it as easy as possible for everyone to carry out the conversion :)

hi russ, new to site & just been checking out your updates , very enjoyable read & very very nice car - im impressed :)

Thats Brett, its really nice to hear that you guys think my cars worthy of a read :) oh and welcome to the club!

Hi Russ, I've been watching this thread for a while, great work! It set me thinking, and I am hoping to carry out a similar project on my high mileage phase 1 172. Mine has 136000 on at the moment, but I did do a top end overhaul at about 85000, when the auxiliary belt destroyed itself and wrapped around the cam belt with the obvious results!
Anyhoo...
I'm hoping to beat you on the price. I've just bought a set of throttle bodies from a Yammie R1 for £60 on e-bay. Until I get them I have no idea whether they will be suitable, but there are a lot of guys rallying cars with bike throttle bodies these days, so I'll give it a go. I might even start my own thread!

Cheers,

Neil

Lol cheers Neil, though im afriad you wont beat me on price, if I told you exacly how much it cost me, you would fall off your chair!
I was lucky to get a good deal on the Jenveys, which helped.

Definately get your own thread up and running though! :)

The reason why I havent bothered with bike bodies, is with the Jenveys its a fairly bolt on conversion, only a little fabrication of the manifold was needed, and the tps hooking up - some bodies can cause some more hassle, such as injectors and rails, I have used all the standard equipment from sensors to even the fuel rail.

With bike bodies you also find they never go as large as 48mm, and also they tend to have a very small amount of throttle opening, meaning the throttle can be a bit snappy, and if like me you wish to run the standard ECU I feel you will have real problems with sharp throttle openings,(this cannot be mapped out) as the sharp intake of air will cause the MAP sensor to lag,(this will cause the car to missfire/bog down at low revs and sharp throttle openings) I find this slightly even with mine, but I have a cracking idea to solve it, with aftermarket ECU's they dont run a MAP sensor, so if your looking at an aftermarket ECU then bike bodies will work out as a good conversion.

Hope that helps :)

Hi, new to the club and clio,s, like what your doing, i have picked up a x reg 172 i also happen to have a set of jenveys and an emerald ecu from my previous car. My worry is what problems i might encounter elsewhere if i was to remove the existing ecu, any advise? cheers

  53 Clio's & counting
Hi and welcome mate :)

You need to leave the existing ECU in place, to run the dash (rev counter, speedo etc) but splice out the wiring for the engine and run that to the emerald. It is a fiddly job, but not super difficult, have a read through a few other itb threads as mine is unique in how my Jenveys are fitted, it also depends on what type of Jenverys you have, I have DCOE style which is very uncommon.

Best was 14.2 @ 96, as Dan has said full road trim, half a tank of fuel and spare wheel etc

Was happy with that, If I had more time im confident a 14.0 would have been acheaved, but it got too busy

Nice one mate. I think there's a fair chunk of weight to lose in your engine bay and from the rear interior to help get that time down!!

Stripped out and sticky tyres job done!

Nice result though, did you run it at pod before itb's?

  53 Clio's & counting
Unfortunately no mate, it would have been good to see, but from comparing it to others id estimate it to have done roughtly a 14.8-15 ish

  ibiza cupra
saw this in the flesh today at santa pod and have to say i was impressed and it looked very clean and professionally done.
i managed a 15.2 so i was also quite happy with mine concidering how hot it turned out to be but im still dieing to break into the late 14`s .

Hi matey, thank you for the kind words!

It was very warm, even with it not running and with the bonnet up I still couldnt get it to cool down, so I think you getting that time with how warm it was its bloody good :)

Yours looked mint btw!

  ibiza cupra
cheers mate :) . im currantly looking into getting a standard air on mine and modding it a bit to try and stop all the hotair getting sucked in and hopefully if all goes well, when i go back in october for the rwyb night racing ill get in the high 14`s (wishfull thinking lol).
hope to see you there.
