Project Shitbox 172 (In Need Of A Good Tidy Up)

so the story begins with a sad looking clio 172 ph2 on ebay (12 previos owners) :O

cracked front and back bumper
needed new steering rack
speedos not working (still dont know the cause)

we drove down to pick the car up knowing these faults but not alot else (was a good price)

so got to see the car it had:

a dent on almost every panel
scrapes everywhere
the boot floor was a bit creaced
headunit doesnt seem to work 100%
seats where in a sorry state and runners dont seem to work drivers side height adjustment doesnt work
in desperate need of a new engine mount
had a non sport side strip on the drivers side
boot has obviously been changed as it doesnt have renault sport badges
been told its had a remap aswell and does feel alot smoother than my mates 182 the power is so different gets rid of the 5k kick.

and a good few other things

so got the car up the road about 500 miles from kent back to glasgow

it worked fine engine was good its had a good few new parts:

New Gear box
New Clutch
New Front/rear discs/pads
New Exhaust
New Fuel Injectors/ Fuel Rail
New Engine stabiliser
New Tyres x4
New Battery
New Wipers
New HT leads

so on to the project it started last night so far i have done a few things

black badges
aero wipers
dewiperd the back
clear side indicators
cleaned all the seats and under the rear seats and boot
put new parcel shelf in one without horible 6x9s
put stubby c2 areil on
secured loose battery
and put a colour coded side strip on.

heres some pics of the car when i got it.

so some of the things still on the long list of things to do:

put my wheels on td 1.2s
put feul rail gaurd on (was missing when i picked it up)
new steering rack and engine mount
new recessed exhaust and new 172 bumper off my non sport
get headlights corrected
fix the clocks
subtle drop

and alot more tidying up

im also in 2 minds wether or not to just reshell this into my 1.2 because of the boot floor damage but i will see what happends.

Don't worry it was the cheapest ph2 I've ever seen and fully hpi clear, I've got my work cut out but as said I can always reshell it at a later date

well i will start with a few pics:

so started to refurb my wheels

got to the stage of primer pretty much ready to paint not the best of jobs but they look alright so far

and all primerd up

wheels are going mars red btw

few pics on my tds they need new tyres but. and needs lows

have new regs waiting to go on
also a new skoda splitter
and waiting on my powerflex bushes to arive and my new dogbone mount
then i will take it to get the steering rack fixed

also found a couple of other problems woohoo more work

so wheels should hopefully be painted on monday

got my new engine mount and powerflex bushes yesterday

so hopefully get them all fitted and skoda splitter on and my wheels painted monday, maybe even treat it to a wee wash

another day another few more problems found ..

anyways my mate finished the painting of the wheels just need laqured now

also i fitted my twisted engine mount with powerflex bushes.. but found that wasnt the problem of the knocking, think its the gearbox linkage or maybe could be the topmount as its fucked

so going to fit my solid top mounts anyway and see if that helps the matter, and have a proper look at the gearbox linkage

also found a problem i dont know what it is, seems like a cable/line/hose has snaped at the left brake its the one that kind of connects to the suspention strut and goes into the back of the hub? not a great discription all i know it needs fixed

seems like owner number 13 is the unlucky one

Looks nice a decent enough restoration project though, any pics of the creased boot? Is it that bad?

Nah its not even that bad will get a pic next time I'm up, the fact its not been repaired and the boot still shuts and the rear bumper still sits in place kinda suggests its not that bad. Cheers

got my new bumper on and cup spoiler is almost ready to paint.

so should have my exhaust in the cutout in the neer future and hopefully will be road worthy.

still needs the backbox on to fill the hole but not to fussed about that, and will paint the spoiler next week

and i have a fresh set of plates to go on a small one for the front. and also have a skoda splitter to go on

been busy with work so not much of an update.

put my solid top mounts on, cheers stu

also found my sump has been welded looks to be fine and not leaking but i may just play it safe and get a new one.

and found a spring in the gearbox linkage broken.

any advice on that appreciated

next up got a decat to fit. and steering rack is definitely getting booked in for next week, then hopefully a couple of minor jobs and have it up crail on the 10th of june and knockhill and then fcs

had not alot to do today so thought i would get cracking with a few little jobs with the car.

first gave it a clean:

then fresh plates

skoda splitter

couple pics of it, first i have seen it kinda shiney lol

and finished lacquering my track wheels

and gave my exhaust a quick clean, need to get it slightly modified to fit and going to get a new hanger put on it.

yeah it is mega high, its been on and off the jack all day though so it is a bit higher than usual had the wheels off to clean them on the inside.
