Quaife diff for 172/182!

  BMW 330d :)
Not sure but a diff would definitely help with traction! Nice! Must be able to get close to a sub 6 sec 0-60 time with one of these!

dunno 'bout 0-60 but there is an atb diff in this months pgti which would help no end round the twisties :) £1013 i think

  EK9 + Mfactory gearing..
so how long does it take to fit & at what cost? dont know much about these, sounds good for the track but what effect does it have on everyday driveability? arent there 2 types of diff mentioned before on here, Ben rated one & not the other? bring on the techys!

the diff is £1K

a box removal/refit is around £250-£500 (depending on where you go)

a box rebuild is £350-£550 (depending where you go)

so what of driveability? i know Yassers is a handfull on the road but he has shortened ratios as well, is it the diff that does this or a combo of both? maybe K-TEC will be offering a drive in the demo car?

i spoke to quaife earlier, according to them NO ONE in the UK has one??? hum, they made 3 or 5 but these were for rally teams in France, they're hopefully getting one back for us so we can see it at Autosport

Yassers was a Gripper diff, the quaife one is an ATB type

The Quaife's are praised by the 205 GTi owners, I drove a fairly standard 1.9 with one and it transformed the car, can see it being a worthy mod on a 17/182.

r-jay care to expand on 'it transormed the car'?

Traction wise, rather then one well slipping/spinning out of tight bends etc, the car just grips and grips.

It takes so getting used to being able to keep your foot planted and the diff doing its stuff and pulling you through the bends.

Take the gearbox out - build it - put gearbox back.

Alot of labour 1 - 1.5k + 1k for diff

You shouldn't have to rebuild the gearbox. You should be able to just remove the old diff and fit the new one, transfering the crown wheel. You would need to re-shim the diff when fitting it, i can imagine it being a nightmare trying to get the right sized shims out of renault.... I've not had much experience with transverse type gearboxes. I'm happy to try if someone buys an atb though! Send me your box and i'll see what they are like. I can get the shims made too.:) ;)

  Renaultsport 220T
I spoke to Quaife last year about one, and they estimated about £1k for the diff. And the box rebuild to come in at around £1.5k.

It would improve the handling for sure on track, it's just a lot of outlay for a little bit of an advantage.

Good set of slicks would possibly be a cheaper option.

actually, i'd say the diff was worth it, clio diffs imho are weak. My mate with an 183bhp glanza v, swears by his, even if it did cause him to hit a kerb at one point, lol.

i had an email from quaffe the other week lettin me know about this, seeing as tho i had been on at em for a while for a diff for the willy...will see wot happens lol.;)
