Rally Clio Winter Project Thread

Got to redo some of the exhaust as theres a split down the length of the center box, plus it needs to be a bit quieter.

Also got some Ferodo DS3000 pads to put on it which should hopefully sort the brakes.

Probably oil surge caused bearing seizure; broke the rod, chewed the piston and liner up, put a hole low down in the block and bent a couple of valves.

We have got most of the bits kicking around to rebuild something decent along the lines of a F7R so going to stick with that for simplicity, time and costs sake.

Oil surge was a worry from the start on all engines I have built, there is things you can do. make sure that oil paths are enlarged to allow oil to get back to the sump as soon as possible, learnt this from a fellow comp who had this prob with pug m16 engines. At high revs the engine filled the topend with oil which meant he got oil shortage. the other is to see how much oil you can get in on my f4r engine I run it with 6 ltrs easy.

Has the bearing failed/spun?
Kinda looks like it hasnt looking at the remainder of the rod!
Im guessing failed rod bolt also..

Though these engines arent anywhere near as prone to oil surge issues as the Mi16 with std sumps, incorrect running clearances will soon spin shells.

If you need any random F7R parts, std or otherwise, get in touch...Ive got loads of new and used bits..plenty of stripped used engines etc!

Got some spare bits off ebay and think we can make up the rest of what we need. Need to make a list of what is going back in it with some pics

Shame you retired at the DIsis few weeks back, was going to come over and have a chat. Spoke the the other AC Williams cars and the guy in the Megan.

Hope to see you out again soon.

Lapped 2 new valves in, got to put it all back together now and see if they seal ok.

We have any entry for the Abingdon CAR-nival stages on the 13th-14th June, so really need to get the car sorted before then!

We have the remains of a few Sodemo engines kicking around, originally from a Continental Megane touring car so are going to rebuild the engine using some of those bits for the bottom end with the original head.

The best block had a bit of damage right at the top of one of the bores, it looks like the engine had dropped a valve and chewed up a piston scoring the cylinder wall in the process. The block was sent away to a local engine builder who bored out the damage and put in a sleeve. He also honed everything up nicely. Nice neat fix as seen below.

At the same time we sent the crank and flywheel to the same place to be balanced.

Ready for assembly now!

Some of the new bits needed for the re-build; new shells, bolts etc.

Main bearing shells going in.

The balanced crank in, with main caps torqued up and reinforcement plate attached.

These are the Cosworth pistons and rods that will be being put in. Just need new rings in and that will be it.

Good stuff, so is it just a straight rebuild or is there any performance going to be gained? I might look into that Abingdon event. Might come and watch
