Recently purchased a clio 182

  Clio 182
Hello all,
Wondering if you could help me out I have just recently purchased a 54 reg clio 182 with category D hanging over it off the internet without looking at it in the flesh (I know terrible mistake). Could someone tell me how to distinguish between a normal 182 and a 182 with a cup pack from pictures only, if it is possible of course.

Cup packs are ;

1 suspension pack, which consists of darker Anthracite coloured wheels, stiffer suspension and slightly lower ride height (-5mm)
2 Spoiler pack, which consists of front lower spoiler on bottom lip of the bumper and an enlarged spoiler on the tailgate.

I can supply pics if needed?

Welcome to CS too! :)

Yours looks to have both packs fitted :approve:

Thats great news:clap: , thank you very much for your help. You may have been wondering why there are no pictures of the back of the vehicle. Well all of the damage has been situated at the rear of the vehicle, any advice you can give me (mods, problems, etc.) Just interested as I don't know anyone who has owned or driven a clio sport.

So you've bought a car that you know nothing about thats a cat d write off ? Sounds a bit risky to me . I hope you got it for a good price and have somebody with a good knowledge of how what repairs it will need . I'd concentrate on repairing the car rather than any mods imo .

Specialist breakers in Accrington might be able to sort you out with all the part you need . If it's been rear ended it might have cause damage further up the exhaust system right up to the exhaust manifold . Matt Black on here works at specialist breakers . Good luck and welcome to Cliosport :)

Agreed, quite often the exhaust shoves forward knackering the cat and the manifold which to replace alone can be very pricey! :)

What's the damage, do you know?

It does sound a little bit ignorant I agree but I will explain more. I work at a garage myself so I asked our bodyshop specialist to have a look at the damage at the rear of the vehicle and told him to give me the worst that the damage could cost.
He told me at worst it would cost about a grand. So I was hoping to get the vehicle for as cheap as possible. I ended up getting the vehicle for £3230 through an auction site. So in total it could cost £4230. Which I didn't think was to bad. Sorry I should of explained myself fully in the first place.

That's good about the cosmetics, but what about any mechanical damage? Is there any?

  Clio 182
The mechanical damage is none, I rang the company that were going to collect and deliver the vehicle for me and told them to start the vehicle and see if it ran noisely etc. before I paid for it. He said that it ran fine with no unnerving noises. So I should get it down to cornwall for the middle of next week. When the vehicle gets down I shall come back on and tell you all of any problems if any, Hopefully none though!!

Well as it's a Cat D I would expect some significant damage to warrant the right-off surely?
What's the cosmetics?

If it's only a grands worth of damage then i would say you've got yourself a bargain . Check in the boot under the mat to see if there are any creases . I'll be honest with ya though , if there is only a grands worth of damage i'd be surprised . The rear end of a clio is a bit of a weak spot when it comes to accident damage and there can be a few more problems that just cosmetic .

There are a couple of 182 exhausts on ebay at the moment . They usually go for little money .

The damage as in cosmetics parts are:
Tailgate:£170
Rear bumper:£130
O/S/R light: £109 genuine or £75 non-genuine

And possibly needs:
O/S/R quarter: £140 (but there is only a very slight crease in it so can probably be pulled out.)

All trade prices to the company.

and of course the labour!!!

Thank you for the link to the exhausts if it does need one (which I am 90% sure it doesn't) I will prob get one of there. Thank you for the help, as I said when it gets down I will take more pictures and let you know of the total damage.

Yeah, good luck and keep us posted! :)
Oh and by the way, Ryan's Racing Blue was recently repaired after a rear shunt and it needed a new exhaust/cat/manifold! Damage you've listed is very similar bar the tail light I believe.

Yeah I will do it's all sounding a little bit daunting now to be honest!!! Ah well I will jump in with both feet and see what happens!!! I thought that £75 non-genuine sounded a bit pricey, but thats what you get when you ask Renault for their non-genuine price!! And once again thanks for the advice.

No probs :)

I'd love to see a non-genuine rear cluster though as I've never seen one! :)

The genuine rear clusters are listed as £40 odd each but that price is 3 years out of date now!

for a little over 3k id say that was a bargain, even if the boot floor is creased....
