Remapped the TCE Estate today

  Clio Tourer TCE100
Paid a visit to Wayside Performance on the outskirts of Coventry today for a stage 1 remap on my Clio Tourer.

Standard TCE 100 engine running Momentum 99 was rolling roaded at 108bhp prior to map. Surprised me as I was expecting a much lower figure. Don't know how big a pinch of salt to take with these figures, I'm no expert in this field.

A K&N filter and a map later it's apparently now running 124bhp and about 15lb/ft more torque. Not had a chance to drive it hard yet as the heavens opened on my way back and didn't want to risk finding my way into any ditches.

Any other TCE owners have much experience with remaps in the long term? Anything to watch out for?

custom or generic flash shite 'map' ?

As said above I'm no expert but I think you could class it as custom as it was tweaked a few times to try and iron out some dips in the curve at higher revs. First time I've been anywhere like that so have nothing to gauge it against. They're a Ford and Vauxhall performance specialist. Lots of STs and VXRs in the paddock, felt a bit like the black sheep in my little dadwagon!

The graph that shows the engine isn't about to explode.

Nope, nothing along those lines. So assuming I've been sold a generic map and I can't obtain this graph from Wayside, where would you recommend in the Midlands I take it to get it done properly?

Don’t worry about it. It’s not a race car, generic map is fine. If you happy with it, roll with it! No point chucking money at it for extra few BHP

Been away from CS for a number of years, forgot how much you can rely on this place to rain on your parade! ?

124bhp seems good for a 1.2 Turbo. I can't imagine you'd get much more out of it without some supporting mods

This, it may be a generic map but they're pretty safe so I wouldn't sweat it.

The 1 litre turbo's they put in Fords knock out 140ps right out the factory.

Yeah it’s impressive Ford got that out the 1.0

However the tce was designed for 100bhp so it’s doing well at 124bhp now. Who knows whether it will be a reliable power level as it wasn’t designed for that much power, unlike the Fiesta

Right up until the warranty runs out. A lad I know from a local engine rebuilder says if they dont have a bunch of 4/5 year old 1.0 ecoboosts through the door each month, it's a surprise.

Eek, and I bet Ford spent millions on R&D with that engine too. I’ve heard similar things about the current Focus RS engine

Is it not the same engine in the Megane putting out 115bhp as standard?

Its not a huge surprise. Screwing 140hp from a 1.0 3-pot? Something is going to give there.

For all the people about to go "oh but my mapped up [whatever] does, like, 40 billions of hp", yes, but you probably also service it more than once very 2 years. And chances are you look under the bonnet yourself from time to time.

I'm sure there are better, stronger examples out there though

Thats probably the crux of it, people want lots of power, lots or mpg and don't wanna bother looking after the thing.

  dan's cast offs.

Engines are scrap once they've overheated, block takes the hit as well. Last I heard engines were on back order from Ford.

I don’t know much about the tce. The power difference compared to the Megane May just be a different map from the factory or the Megane could have a better exhaust system, larger turbo, better inter cooler, better air box, forged pistons, uprated clutch etc. Someone might be able to confirm on here though
