Also the Ferrodo DS2500's arrived earlier too, discs need collecting form the couriers :D


I know ill probs change my mind in half an hour but ive been thinking itll be abit of a waste if i rip this 1800 engine apart once i collect it on sunday considering its a later 1800 with only 68k... and with 115bhp &120lbs ft. straight out the box with an ashley 4-branch manifold, a set of cams and my carbs should see 150bhp & 125lbs ft.. for a very cheap price and wouldnbt have to bother with haviong to buy another engine and swapping bits over etc etc...

Also think im picking up a Escort S1 RST gearbox next week too as ive been recommended they're the ones to go for, they're meant to be pretty strong and have shorter ratios than the mk2 xr2 box :D

Saturday morning took a trip to Mikeanics to make sure its all running right for the next 2 months so it lasts lol...

He said it was running rich so he had to change all the jets now it fells alot better now figures dont reallysay that tho..

Made 117bhp @ 6.3k and 107lbs ft @ 5.4k.. both graphs are VERY smooth, so pretty happy with it for now...

From the we went upto the Lakes to visit my Dad & Step mum and gor for a drive around with another mate... only got a few pics -

Then was abit over a hero over a hill/jump and got about 2ft of air and all 4 wheels left the floor and landed at the same time, car proper bottom out... did this damage...

flat spot in the manifold and its slightly cracked -

Then yestyrday did 7hr round trip to pick up the engine, 45mins stood still on the M1 wasnt nice when it was like 30degrees lol

The only thing its missing is a Thermostat housing so ill pick on up from a scrappies when i go to get some coolant hoses etc later on this week :D

i dont NEED one but maybe something to think about in the future

Chris you interested in a 1600 cvh, with kent 22 cam, ported head, janspeed manifold with 117bhp around early august time ;)


Right after the the hero momnent on saturday i sorted the exhausrt as it was 0.000001mm off the floor when i got home as the joints worked them self loose, so sorted that and sorted the back box out too so its no as low as it was when it was fitted at pipewerx, plus i dont think the manifolds cracked its was just the heat of it at the time lol... then fitted the standard xr2 fan as i cba ordering new ties until i get a new rad for the new engine... then fitted new tax disc holder... then i gave it its first wash since owning it for over 3 weeks now -

Just payed the Deposit for my Inlet Manifold which is having to be made to suit my carbs to the zetec.

Gonna start stripping the engine down tmoz probs, when i say stripping, i mean removing everything thats not needed and give it a clean.

Get a manual override switch for the fan, the fan never cut in at the right point on these.

yeh it cuts in at just under red/hot lol



Just purcahsed a brand new ERST/FRST Helix Organic clutch :approve:

Going starting some progress on the engine later too.

Also just sent an e-mail to a supplier for silicone hoses as im going to get the Carb hoses in red (43mm) and paint the Rocker cover red and all the rest (Coolant, oil cath tank, oil cooler) in black :D

Stripped this lot off the engine -

Manifold & downpipe, Inlet manifold and fuel rail, 1800 clutch, AC & PAS pumps and pulleys etc, Sandwich plate for rear mounted starter motor, breather hoses...

also took the old oil filter off and removed the HT leads the re-fitted them using WD40 on the plugs...

I know paul woodford had a manual override switch put on his, as his suffered from exactly the same problem as yours does, get too hot.

I'm struggling to see the reasoning behind this choice of car, tbh.

For the best part of £2.5k, surely there's MUCH better things to use as a track car? That'd build you a top spec VTS, or a Ph1 172, and you wouldn't be butchering a classic?!

you'd be in with a chance even if the 1800 was in... its not gonna be the fastest thing in the world, probs will be a little quicker than the ZS was, but should be alot more reliable than the original cvh and the old ZS engine...

yeh the cvh will still be in for cadwell...

plans before cadwell are fit the discs and pads, gauges and rear ARB bushes...

and hopefully have the 1800 totally ready to drop in after Ford fair or maybe after cadwell, we'll see :D



Picked up new cambelt kit, exhaust manifold gasket and a cvh filter for the 1800 from ford earlier!

The clutch should be here early next week as should both haynes manuals ive won on ebay, along with 2m of 13mm black silicone hoising for the breather pipes

nope... Cadwell then going to Ford fair then do the engine/box swap/conversion then see how i am for time after then... HOPEFULLY should only take about 2 weekends and some evenings to do, if the weathers on my side that is... would be so much easier if i had the space for the engine at my house :(

going to try and make oulton on the 1st september!

Updates on the engine as we went to f0xys factory earlier to do a little more...

New exhaust manifold gasket awaiting to be squeezed with an Ashely manifold -

Also went to a scrappies yesturday to get a Thermostat housing as the engine was missing it when i bought it... picked one up for a fiver with the rubber gasket, Sensors and the bolts... so fitted that too -

Dropped the Cams off at Jon @ Shawspeed yday... soon as he gets them back hes gonna come round fit/time them up for me then i can ut the engine all back together then ready to go in

FRST/ERST Helix Organic clutch arrived today -

Also ordered some NGK Platinum Spark plugs on tuesday, were here when i got home from work -

Swap the Cam belt tensioners over, re-fit the crank pulley and Re-primer the rocker cover after me not using etch primer lol!

Cam belt pullys/tensioners repalced and torqued up to the correct setting as the Crank pulley and placed the new cam belt in place ready for when re-fitting the cams and also re-fitted the bottom part of the cam balt covers -

then wire brushed the old primer off, etch primered it the 2 coats of Hi-temp red -

needs laquering yet will do that over the weekend...

Also Picking up a xr2i (6pk913) Auxuilery belt and a new rocker cover gasket too tmoz.

Also Kenlowe fan is back on after alot of ****ing about with the wires trying to reverse it then realising its only meant to spin one way

Once the cams are in and timed up and all the cambelt covers are back on then ill paint the block in some Grey Hammerite whilst i still have to laquer the rocker cover...

Just been totting up all the stuff ive got so far all ive got to get is a Ashley manifold, Magnecor HT leads (from ford fair), Mk3 fiesta Zetec Radiator and once the engines in the for Jon to come with the Omex 200 and wire it in for me once the exhaust linked up then hopefully itll start...
