I think you go to the library section and then you can see what routes other users have made.

I'd go to Wales tomorrow if you asked me to go for a road trip! that place is bloody wonderful to drive in... and I was driving my wife's 190BHP Seat Alhambra for our first and only trip there! ?

Yeah i was thinking looking into Scotland yesterday and it would be a lot of planing and time to do,will prob do that one with the girlfriend for a week hols.

Wales seems to be the easiest option to most i think,is there any links on driving roads etc or anyone done a driving trip in wales before?,also would we do this by staying in hostels,b&b's

Agreed on Wales being a good location for a long weekend trip, although I doubt I'll be able to make it this any time soon.

As my clio is a track only car... I’d be bringing the trusty Skoda Superb...

So if there were a couple of people that wanted to go but didn’t want to drive, I’d happily have passengers ????

My wife will probably shoot me if I told her I was going to Wales without her, but she would hate any form of spirited driving

For a weekend I'd say B&B. Warm bed and cooked breakfast gotta be a winner. And you're not restricted to one area as you can stay elsewhere on a second night.

Dont think many are interested at the moment tho.Might see to move the thread to the Driving Roads bit section @OssPoop
I think the only way you're gonna do this is to just set a plan that suits you. Do what you want to do and open an invitation, if anyone else comes along, call it a bonus.

If you try and please everyone remotely interested, it will just go on for ever.

Even organising a meet on here for 2 hours of an evening is hard work !

Yep that's the best way to do it. If it's planned far enough in advance it gives people more time to get on board, but we need to pick a time and place first then finalise the route later and look and B&Bs etc.
@SharkyUK may be able to help with finding some good Welsh tarmac?

I stayed at this place in July and it was a perfect for us

http://aberbranfawr.co.uk/

- allowed camp fires
- decent showers
- right on the river (we went swimming)
- 5 minute drive into Brecon (restaurants and Morrison’s)

Not sure where you’d like to stay but it’s a really good place for tourism etc... some very decent driving roads around but then there are decent roads throughout wales

(Thanks to Fiona for this pic!)

I've been driving and enjoying the Welsh roads for a good 15 years or so now, hence know a few good roads here and there. :) I would highly recommend making a weekend of it - ideally arriving at some start point on the Friday night so as to be able to make an early start on the Saturday morning. Cheap and cheerful accommodation can usually be found for the Saturday night (good to have a social get together for beers and food, too).

Nice work mate, will look at the thread later on,have you any links to accommodation you stayed at and most of all the routes you took please? @SharkyUK

I dont think this will happen till mid end of next year, late summer. So it just gives everyone time to sort there self out for it & i guess we all have other things going on in our lifes to.

  Twingo 133 Cup,
I would rather go to Scotland over Wales any day. I grew up on the west coast in a town called Oban. The west coast is brilliant with beautiful scenery and roads. For me the best and most challenging roads in the UK are on an island called Mull with scenery that is some of the best in the world Mull is an unmissable place to go. Especially if you go the second weekend in October (not this year) the island turns into motorsport heaven!

I agree about Scotland but it would take more organising and time off for people,Wales seems to be the easiest option for most.
But iam going to Scotland next year for a week with the girlfiend,so will look into that island. Why does it turn into motorsport heaven in oct?

This is why Mull is heaven! Every October for over 30 years the annual pilgrimage to a small windswept rugged island on the west coast of Scotland. Usually started by a 5 hour drive from home up to Oban for the ferry over to Mull. I think my love for the island comes from my dad my first memory being on his shoulders watching the rally on the old road before Salen with the likes of Beecroft,MacKinnon and Pattison
Escorts,Sunbeams and Mini's flying by. The sounds of bda's and lotus twincams echoing of the hills the Cibie Oscar's lighting up the darkness waiting for the cars on Loch na keal you can hear the stags up in the hills until you see the lights weaving in and out of the loch screaming engine notes as the drivers occasionally let off for the crests and bridges. I can remember being late to set up our control in Craignure and following the closing car down the Glen road my dad driving our old red Manta (GUM 289Y) by the end of the Glen with the brakes stinking and a half inch scrubbed off the bottom of the towbar I knew then that one day I will get on that entry list.

Mull is harsh and very Unforgiving on both machinery and people. Having grown up on the west coast on a little island called Seil I have a good understanding of what the weather can be like but to people who have never been to the west coast you are in for a shock! Mull in October has it all sun, rain, gale force winds and snow and that's just in a day.
One side of the island can be lovely and dry the other as wet as an otters pocket.
The roads are harsh at best with crests, rocks, bridges and don't forget the deer!
If you get it wrong on Mull you will be very luck if you don't get away without damage. Large drops from the edges of the newly laid tarmac, rocks close to edge of the stage can puncture a tyre in an instant or worse. Drops strait into the sea round half of the stages. Ditches, bogs Mull has it all.

Brian Molyneux wrote a book called The Best Rally In The World all about the rally, Colin McRae regularly visited Mull when the rally was on before his tragic accident.
Imagine a cup final at Wembley that's what Tobermory is like during rally week.

Me in 2016 in the wee puma, next time will be in the Twingo.

No problem mate - I'm sure I'll be around when the time comes. :) Yes, I have routes all over Wales and places to stay / eat. I also love Scotland and have various routes and tours I've done there, including the West and Highlands (taking in Mull, Skye, etc.) The Scotland tours I've done are a week long though as there's much more mileage involved. Likewise, I have various Euro Trip routes planned but those usually take place over 8-10 days and can get a bit expensive!

This thread is a good read ??

I’ve been to Le Mans every year from 2000-2010 and loved every visit.

The roads off the beaten track, are great to drive. Not as hilly and twisty as Wales or Scotland, yet they’re very quiet and smoothly surfaced. We used to go for random drives when the races were not on, getting lost on purpose then stopping off at chateaus and landmarks that grabbed our attention ?

Little tip: Join the ACO and get discounted tickets ?

I’d be up for a 2019 visit for definite ??

I’ve got a week off work 8th - 12th October and I’m seriously considering exploring Wales for a few days :)

Would love to do Le Mans next year but,i need to sort arrange other things first.

Ive booked up for a week in July for my birthday in Scotland with the girlfriend and have got the NorthWest 500 map for some inspiration.

A Le Mans trip is definitely on the bucket list. Who knows if we can get a Wales trip sorted Le Mans could be an option for 2020!

We should be able to sort a Wales trip, but more likely to be end of summer or end of next year,as ive got things to do & moving house, also gives us plenty of time to save money, sort accommodation, plan routes and get our Cars all ready!?
