I can imagine it’s pretty different to the times I’ve been in that part of the world - we’ve usually been exceptionally lucky with the weather!

Glad you’re enjoying yourself though mate, it’s special no matter what the weather’s doing.

Is it still a 40mph limit enforced by traffic police on motorbikes?
Yup - it's a 40mph limit.

Further north, It looks like the Evo Triangle will soon be getting average speed cameras installed as well... the Welsh Government have set aside half a million wholly for the scheme.
Why the f**k is that a 40mph limit?

Finally back home after 2 great half days in and around Brecon ?

I won't go crazy and do a full write up, just a brief overview.

Basically I entered North Wales from Chester, into Wrexham then followed sections of the A483 & A470 down towards my B&B.

You'd think they'd be boring roads, as they're both major arteries.....they're actually really nice roads to drive. Busy-ish but still pleasant enough, even in driving rain and high winds.

Next I followed Tim's suggestion and found the B4518, and I wasn't dissapointed, an absolutely fantastic road ? The section around Clywedog Reservoir is spectacular!

Then I meandered to my B&B at Llangadog, which was right at the start of the A4069 ? Did a quick run over the mountain pass, but the light was rapidly fading.

Got up early, weather was sadly even worse, did 3 full runs over the mountain pass, only passed 5 cars the whole time. No sign of police, cameras or unmarked bikes or police cars. Just lots of lovely twisty corners, which even at 40 can still be fun in a little Clio ?

Just be aware of large kerb side rocks every 10-15 metres, used to mark the edge of the road. Could easily rip a wheel off if you get too carried away.

Started to head back north to Chester, then the motorway. I went via Brecon itself, then onto the B4520 which turned out to be a really enjoyable drive. I can only imagine how busy this beautiful place gets in summer.

Along the way I took several little detours, onto interesting back roads which all delivered plenty of fun, so its like @Tim said, all Welsh roads are good.

I'm really looking forward to this trip when we get it all sorted ?

Do you think the B&B at Llangadog would be a good starting point?.I think the plan is to go the tail end of summer out of the school hols season,as less busy and prob cheaper hotels etc. @Jon46

I don't see why not.

Smallish car park around the back for approx 6 cars, small but I believe they have an over spill further back, I couldn't see it was dark when I went.

Really friendly staff, locals were very welcoming too.

Decent room, bed and shower, with tv and wi-fi although it was a hit and miss signal, probably due to the weather. Saying that, we'll probably be having a few beers and reading maps :)

In the restaurant I had lovely sausage, mash and onion gravy. Followed by syrup sponge and custard, with a pint of Coors, all for £18, very reasonable.

Room was £36 including a full cooked breakfast, so very, very good value.

I booked through booking.com so probably get a better price calling direct, shall I give them a call and see how many rooms they have? I never asked them.

Same as usual... becomes popular, attracts too many idiots that cause too many accidents and problems. The 40mph limit has been in place a few years now.

Roads are fine, they don’t hurt anyone, it’s the users that cause issues like this Ford Focus driver ?

Found it on google earth when I searched for the haunted castle at Craig Y Nos ?3B2813C9-025A-46AF-B7A4-8F8EB0286F3D.png

Yes mate great thank you, what are you doing about accommodation?
Personally I just stay in the cheapest sea-front B&B in Aber.

Wales has thousands of hotels, B&Bs and campsites offering options to suit all budgets and needs, but finding somewhere which meets everyone in a group’s requirements could be tricky.

If it was me I’d pick a town, find somewhere you’re happy to stay then let everyone else do their own thing. If you all end up at the same place, great. If not, no big deal.

Yeah i agree, all you need is a bed, shower & place to park.Would be good if everyone would agree to just using a hostel or something as cheap as chips & simple.

@Tim. That route would be good for the last leg of the trip i think,as was thinking of starting at the top area by Snowdonia way then join your route then home, otherwise i would be coming back on myself as i will be heading to Essex.

Your have to post up a little thread mate with info & photos.

I completely agree, somewhere to park your car, bed and shower with an evening meal (or place close by) and a breakfast in the morning ??

I'm the same, grub a couple of beers and a bed and preferably with all of us there so we can discuss the days driving. 3 or 4 nights sounds spot on so we don't feel like we need to cover too much ground each day.

@MrBlonde

You’ve created lots of interest for this little adventure ???

Would it be a good idea to set a date, and ask for a show of hands for those seriously interested?

Then we can look at booking hotels or b&b’s and planning a meeting point etc?

Can a moderator make this a sticky? If needed?
