rules on tyres for RWYB

rather than messing about trying to get and extra 5 or 10 bhp out of my girl, i figured the main problem with quarter miling is the traction with front wheel drive.

does anyone know whether its against the rules to swap for slicks on the front for example, or is it just not in the spirit of the event? im sure it could make quite a difference, poss half a second i think.

I believe your car has to be road legal for RWYB, but once youve been through scrutineering there would be nothing to stop you swapping your wheels. Try it!

Ive got mate who goes down the Pod quite often and normally swaps his tyres for slicks. It makes a difference.

So far theres been no complaints about him doing it, so go for it mate.

Yoko do various tyres which are road legal, but are biast towards track work so these could be up your street. Theyre pricey though..all to go up a straight piece of tarmac..hmmm

i was thinking more of going to the tyre bin after a clio cup race and getting some for free then buying some steelies to suit the tyres.

lol sorry..im all for a couple of gos for the experience of it all but i love my bends and bumps as well!

Yeah - hence the price difference! Drag racing does have 1 element that track days dont have though - its real racing! You run, you improve your time or get worse, you win, you lose. There are no arguments - your slips tell the whole story. Trackdays are great fun but nothing tangible comes out at the end - you did it all for fun.

Dont get me wrong, I love trackdays and I do them whenever I can. But drag racing has that certain something - simply because its real racing!

LOL spot on Mike you said it mate. Quarter miling is the only thing thatll settle the pub bullsh*t about whos built the quicker car.

Ive been thinking along the same lines anyway, thinking of getting some Yokes, A042or A032 R, kind of like cut slicks. Just enough tread to be road legal on the way there and back. I was thinking about just getting a full set of four and running them as summer tyres then going back to the Eagles for the winter.

not once at a RWYB has my car been checked

on various occasions i have seen many cars built specifically for the strip, none of which could possibly be road legal

Whats he got? The problem with using semi comp tyres is that they come in bloody weird sizes almost all in 15s so no proper street sizes like 205/40/17.

Just done a bit of working out and it seems the closest to my street size is a Yokohama A006-T tarmac stage tyre in 190/610R17. Can anyone get a price on these or some ideas about where I might try?
