Sbridgey's budget track/sensible ph2 project thread

Right so an Update on what i have been doing. Nothing major this time.

So as I knew i was doing a trackday at bedford and they are strict on noise, I had to purchase a quieter exhaust, luckily enough I found a powerflow for a good price, not the best brand but I don't really care.

Then just before I was going to fit it this happened.

So I had to get Mick to fit my new one at really short notice, the worst thing was that even though it had fallen off it wasn't any louder, than it normally was.

Sadly the clamp on between the back box and centre pipe failed, so i took the car home and got my dad to weld it in place.

Now it is all good, and I am no longer being deafened everytime I drive anywhere.

I decided that I should prep the car for my upcoming trackdays, so Fred got a phone call and soon enough I had a good list of parts ordered including:

Coolant
Oil
Filter
Brake discs

and these

The much required/awaited Ferodo DS3000's.

I got everything fitted and went out for a drive where my car was reported to be causing lots of sparks from the front wheels, which i thought was pretty cool

Then the Radiator decided it wanted to start leaking, luckily Meek_Racing had one he didn't want, so I grabbed that off him and went over to Diamond Motors to steal Mick's tools and bodge the radiator in place 24 hours before a trackday.

This was the result

A proper bodge and more sturdy than when it rolled out of Dieppe.

It was time for the PassionFord Bedford Autodrome trackday, my first run wasn't even a whole lap until the airbox decided to fall off.

My second run was much better but ended when a ford decided it wanted to drop oil everywhere, almost causing me to spin, and when I got back into the pits my brake pads were on fire.

After the fire they seemed to work much better which was handy.

I managed to generate so much heat that this happened to one of my centre caps.

Overall it was a really good, fun and enjoyable day, I especially enjoyed scaring Daveski and Mick.

The car felt really good, but I cant help but feel it still has a fair amount of understeer that needs dialling out.

Anyway here are my pictures from the day.

Looked to be going really well at Bedford mate

To save me reading through the whole thread, what pads have you changed from? And how did the DS3000's fair at the weekend?

I was running DS2500's before, the 3000's are much better, increased stopping power and better resilience to heat.

I found that the pedal would go quite long on occasion but after a slower lap it was fine again.

Bloodyhell. I never got my 3000s to fade!

Hmmmm might have to look into those...

Ran 1144's at the weekend and pedal was to the floor after a handful of laps!

Must've boiled the fluid as well, pedal still hasn't come back...

They are proper s**t on track mate. Drove Dan Freemans car at Outon with them an lost the brakes competely part way around the first lap. Nice for the road tho

Yer dad drove back and nearly shot into the field as we left the track! Got some ATE Super Blue to bleed up with Sunday

And yer Jay seemed good for the road (ie good from cold but still lasted on a B road blast) but after the first session in the morning they were smoking whilst sitting in the pits. Never came back all day. DS2500 a big enough jump or just go for the 3000's?

2500's are better but ive had them go funny too. Never tried DS3000. Brakes like a lot of things are personal preference

Its difficult to say either way, i find the DS3000's are pretty grabby on the road so you have to be careful with them but they are perfectly useable, and on track they are miles better than DS2500's.

DS2500's are good for road and occasional track where they are not being punished.

  53 Clio's & counting
Agreed, I found the 2500's are good if you don't brake like you're racing, a few hard laps then a lap of a little gentle braking and they are ok :)

Car's coming along great btw!

I was reeling you in, but you are alot braver on the brakes than I was, that and my lack of knowledge of Bedford didnt help.

I hadn't got a clue where i was going either, I was just trying my best to keep you behind.

You'll have to watch out, something tells me she isn't lacking bravery! Last thing you want is to be overtaken by your old car ;)

Lol she can certainly handle a car. We had lift off oversteer on a roundabout in her KA the other day lol!
Standard on one of them. I had one, real easy to get the back out. My mrs used to live out in the sticks. Was ace down the lanes. Just needed about 100 more horsepower
