Scott's Super Clean PH1 172 Project Thread

ALD has done a great job on the porting. :)

Thank you

Scott you work fast when you get the bits, Enjoy the head work mate as i seam to be very good reviews from everyone on here now. I should be able to develop them more now i have my own flow bench

  Many.
I feel I should add more here too.

I had never seen Scott's car before, bar pictures, but it is as mint as it looks. Scott's attention to detail, is amazing, although annoying sometimes when working with him! lol

Was a good day yesterday, Even giving me a choice of smoked or un-smoked bacon, My hero!

It really is super clean now.

Top work.

Thank you for the comment mate, i just want todrive the thing now.

Scott, I don't need more inspiration. I can never keep up Lol.

Although you do give me plenty of ideas. I'm changing jobs soon and they have a polishing machine, laithe, sandblasting machine, etc so maybe I might be able to get 1/100th as clean as yours.

I love seeing your updates though. As gray said, it really is super clean :D

Thanks Mark, what do you do for a living then?

For some reason i thought you worked in retail

bonkers.... completely bonkers on a whole new level ! top job :)

Hmmm i guess you could say that mate, but it will be worth it. :D

Poetry in motion.

Cheers dude. :)
This car is just stupid clean. Loving the updates scott. ALD has done a great job on the porting. :)

Thanks Kyle, we will tell on the dyno if its all been worth it.

Thank you

I was up at 7am on Saturday and did a few bits on the car friday night after work to make sure it all went back together ok.

If the cambelt didn't need a bigger pulley then we would have gotten the cambelt side of things done. Im waiting on my inlets to come back from the paint shop so i could't have got it running.

What power you expecting once it's all back together and mapped, Scott?

Yes if it makes 190 or more then i will be very happy Bobby, i hope it makes good toque tbh mate.

Im guessing it should make mid/high 190's based on the fact its similar to my 421'd engine.

This would be very good if it does. :)

Good work Scott, looks great already!

Thanks Tom, i bet you are looking forward to the track day, not long to wait matey.

Just spent an hour looking through this and fair play outstanding work/attention to detail. :)

Thank you Ash, thanks for taking the time to read it all. Glad you enjoyed it!. :approve:

Awesome work. Attention to the smallest details are fantastic!

Thanks Mike, its getting there.

I feel I should add more here too.

Yes I am, although the battery is funked, it won't hold any charge :( I won't get the new one until tomorrow but it's booked in for geo setup and I was supposed to be seeing Chris @ EFI for a tweak on the map too.

I'm hoping it turns up in time, I might still be able to make it for the geo but I'm going to have to let Chris down :(

It's a small one under the passenger seat Chi. Being an AGM one it doesn't like lots of recharging so I've already ordered the same one but a gel version.

No buddy, nowhere to put it! It's ok, it was only a tweak to the map anyway, won't make any difference on track :) I'll get it done another time.

This is a seriously impressive car, project, and thread, a real credit to you, Scott.

What stands out far and above so many other project threads, and it's been mentioned before (several/many times) is the attention to detail you're putting into this.

It's so inspiring to see someone take such care & attention to all the minor things as well as getting the big things done properly, I'm really looking forward to seeing it when you have it up & running - I bet you can't wait!!!

P.S. Have you priced up the amount of perspex you'll need to put the car in a presentation case? ;)

Love this thread Scott, not posted as of yet but been following for a long time. very impressive!

Where did you get your engine cover and other silver plastics done?

Edit: I see dirty wires :rasp:

Do you know what colour silver the grab handles are my man? Need to do mine and the gear knob too.

Also it'll be a kit car company that I'll be going back too in Harlow. (Worked there 5 years ago for 8 years) :)

I think they are titanium Mark, well thats a pure guess but would make sense to go with the car. Originally they arent though are they?

I need all mine doing too!

Did you fit a bigger tensioner pulley for the timing belt then and did the tensioner sit in te
right place?
How much and where from? Might have to invest in one for mine.

Hi James, mine is the same as in the tensioner mark's wont line up.

Ive ordered a pulley from Fred @ BTM, im hoping that it will be with me this week as Fred is megga busy.
You will need Fred to make you a spacer for the new pulley, ill be making my own as I have a lathe at work.

Fingers crossed it sorts it, I just couldn't put my car back together with the tensioner in the wrong position.

Ah cool, I've got a lathe at uni. I put mine back in and it's been fine, only noticeable thing is on idle occasionally can hear a clicky/knock noise from the tensioner. How much was it? Pm me if you want.

Strange I had no issue with mine!

I wonder if mine didn't need as much skimming off.

Andrew said mine had 8 tho taken off mate.

He said that your's had 16 tho so I can't understand how I have problems.

Just a pain in the ass as I wanted that side of it done.

1st off thank you very much Tim for the kind words, i love your Trophy.

No mate i can't wait to here it run/drive it again. I haven't been to bothered in the pass months but now the head is back on i just want to enjoy it again.

I would have loved to come to Wales, would have get to drive the car around them roads.

It will be getting driven Tim, just not in the rain lol

As ive said before i haven't done the car as a show queen, i just want things to be right. :)

HMS Derv Destroyer is/has painted my bits. His still got my inlets which i hope to have back soon.

Yes you are right, there is but don't worry they won't be. ;)

Yes Mark, its titanium sliver 647.

Oh i didn't know you was a hands on man, i thought you worked in an office.

I would love to buy a car off you. You make them so bloody mint!!

Good work man.

Cheers Martin, i enjoy doing it tbh.

Right im off to Freds at BTM tomo to collect the larger idler pulley (he said that he had posted it to me 2 weeks ago) that i need so that the cam belt adjuster marks line up, after putting some plastic shims between the cam belt and the idler pulley it works out that the pulley i need needs to be 4mm larger.

This pulley has held the project up for the last 2 weeks, the only bits i have manged to do is to fit the de-cat and the ARP rod bolts.

Collected my spare sump that i bought from Dan @ SJM from the powder coaters along with my dog bone mount.

I thought that the 182 manifold was going to be close to the ARB and the sub-frame, so with this in mind i didn't want anything to be hitting.
I have replaced my yellow Powerflex bushes with there Black series, i know its going to be harsh.

All fitted.

Plenty of clearance.

20140418_143523_zps99eff566.jpg

Ktech de-cat fitted, ended up removing the exhaust system to aline it all back up.

20140418_173621_zps98acc36b.jpg

Next up is the fitting of the ARP rod bolts, i can see how the standard ones fail.

20140427_131335_zps9caa3d26.jpg

Decided to replace the big end bearings just because mine have covered 49k which i know is nothing but Meh, they are only £25 a set.

20140427_134837_zps7bba15ed.jpg

My old bearings are just as good as the new ones.

20140427_135219_zpsac2b8ae3.jpg

Engines nice and clean and the crank is mint which makes me happy. lol

So you're actually cleaning INSIDE the engine now??

You've officially gone mental Scott.

Flol, no mate was just showing how clean it is inside while i was fitting the ARPs.

Scott loves clean :D

How comes you decided on the black bushes?

Because it has cost me almost £200 to heat wrap the manifold, i was told that the 182 manifold might hit the ARB or sub frame so with this in mind i didn't want the engine moving and messing up my wrap. :)

The 182 manifolds without the dent are far more likely to hit the arb. Mine has the dent and it's never been an issue even on standard mounts. You'll be fine!
