Reduce the weight, put in in lunar grey with red wheels and decals and make it limited edition. ie: 197 of them ;)

As an option, give us the chance to have a turbo 1.6 or similiar giving 200bhp on the nose but so it sits in a lower road tax band and can give some better mpg (well i can dream.)

But being serious, I am praying for a R27.R since the megane is probably a wee bit out of price range. :D

well if the basic r26r is 23k... and the normal r26 is 20k list iirc.

so maybe a r27r of about 18k? or a wee bit less (i'll just keep dreaming lol)

yes cool^^ but we are talking about a clio 197 r27r. not the megane, we have those threads already.

Recaro's, strip rear seats and carpet it, fit a set of h&R coilies, and refurb your wheels in red...

Make one yourself!

r26 r is sick, reminds me of the hatchback equivalent of the gt3 rs. I would pick one up now, but the head on me says wait for someone else to get one and let them take the 7-8k depreciation of the first year!

So its the same engine, same suspension, same basic car, but they take out 2 grands worth of kit and add 3k to the price?

Seems like a right crap deal to me.

Oh and the new megane is coming out, so i sense a plan to get rid of some shells fast.

The 1.6T engine will never happen in this current clio. Renault don't currently make or have access to a 1.6T so it would have to be developed from scratch. Although i think it would be a good idea as it could be used to replace the exisiting 1.8 16v 2.0 16v and 2.0T (165bhp not 225) engines in various power outputs. And also if they could do what they did with the TCE it would have the same emissions as a 1.6 16v. I'd personally go for a Renaultsport Clio Dci using the 2.0 148bhp derv engine and 197 chassis.

i don't know how seriously RS take the uk road tax implications but it is imo, a major factor.

mini have managed a efficient 1.6t that is low for tax and good on fuel.

the 197 manages to make do at present but in a few years outputting what it does and the issue of poor fuel mpg will be a major selling and buying factor.

R26R is 22k I think...

They look fapping awesome I must say. I'd love one but a) my driving wouldn't exactly do it justice and b) I need rear seats!

I think an R27R would be a realistic prospect, but why not go all out and drop a 3 litre V6 in it

  Megane Trophy #147
mid engined rear wheel drive mk3 ftw would be epic and look so aggresive if they styled it nice and wide like the vee

Pretty much what they do with all hardcore cars...GT3 RS (although that does get the turbo body). Gallardo Superleggera etc.

230 shells is hardally worth worrying about to them!

lets hope they dont do a R27.R :(

it is inevitable tbh imo. i don't see they will leave the 197 as it is for much longer. RS love making changes

+1 i love it, and think i will be in the hunt for one in 6 months time. cant even seem to get a test drive sorted!!

back on topic, i think an r27.r would be brilliant, very much track focused wee car with as you say a decent turbo lump in it to pull you nicely from the bends.

tbh there is nothing wrong with the current 197 lump, its a peach. The car just needs to loose 200kg ;)

LOL. Gets a lot of negitive press the engine, but its fantastic imo, as said if the car lost 200kgs or so it would be a right wepon!!!! Even so, had a tussel with an EP3 last night and it was nip and tuck, so its hardly slow......... Have thought about taking out the rear airbags as a starting point lol

Has different suspension (the r26r). Smacks of marketing, remove the rear bench (weighing a few kg), the stereo (1kg), but leave air con in. How the hell does that make sense??

Yeah but you had the 182 and the cup then nothing else apart from the Vee, with new C02 implications etc i cant see them doing anything radical and if they did it would have to be mahoosive engine in the 197, but they wouldnt.

Given that in the past 12 months you've had the R27, then the cup and cup chassis, can't see major changes until the meg is replaced.

They should focus on making the cars better built/reliability etc before they start messing around with variants.

To be fair, going round the ring when it was 32c outside, I was thankful of aircon hehe! Then I turned it off for max power on my 'solo' lap where my mates got out and I just went for it. I was absolutely drippin and almost passin out from the heat at the end hehe! I agree though, if I had to choose, stereo over aircon - is the stereo an option?

I love the R27s engine, once warmed up it just begs to be thrashed and loves to rev freely, it goads you and mocks you into driving hard. When I'm driving it I'm sure it's saying "why are you being such a pussy? Try a bit hard fag, why aren't you near the shift light? You could've got round that corner faster..." - of course this is eventually going to end up, in a big accident :)

i won't deny the engine is a peach. but it has some major flaws - the co2 and the consumption. these facotrs are only gonig to get worse over the coming years with the state of fuel costs andthe governemtn hell bent on raising road tax at any oppourtunity. they managed it with the mini engine (which i beleive peugeot use) so Renualt really need to raise the bar imo for the 197 development at somepoint.

Seb is very quick to put down any one slagging off his motor of choice, but the above Freudian slip reveals his true opinion of the 197. Forget it mate, its never going to happen. When they come to write the definative history of hot hatches, your motor will barely get a mention.

why do i deserve so much attention from you? plus why do you troll so much?

if i could put the mini engine in the clio i would, doesn't mena i don't like the 197, infact i love it! :D just my thoughts on the current issues. especially considering the prices we pay. hey, i don't like filling up as much as the next guy!

i'm sure i'll lose so much sleep over your last sentance too.

edit - plus what you've failed to also notice is i do actually like the 182 etc. i give much less banter to what is received too, but anyway...
