Started on my 172 CUP

Update 31/1/14

New brakes arrived today. Everyone loves a brembo order! G 172 as always rapid delivery. I've also dropped off my calipers, carrier brackets and hub for soda blasting. Found a really good back street garage that does it for cash.

Some people like to tack weld the sleeves on for added security of them so there's no chance of them slipping. Great work so far :)

Mr R.

  A special one.
Ive got the same bushes, put a drop of loctite on before fitting.

Then had them power coated with no problems.
The old style of bush needed to be welded into place.
These one's won't move.

  A special one.
The new type can't move.

The top hats of the bush won't allow it.

But its up to the op.

Update 6/2/14

Got my bits back from the sand blaster. Look a hell of a lot better but not 100%

Primer applied then a few coats of satin black for the hubs and gloss black for the calipers and brackets

I've also decided to calm down with the spending on the car and start getting to a point Where I can use it. Obviously I have the same to do on the other side but I have all the parts to do it.

Forgot while I was waiting in between coats of paint I got the track rod, end and bottom arm fitted.

Also the lock nut that stops your tracking moving was absolutely knackered on the old arm so I bought 2 new ones. Have a guess how much 1 nut cost? :doublesho £3.26 apparently it's a rare thread and size!

Finally starting to look like a car under the arch again!

Got the calipers re assembled today

Was a bugger getting the new piston in past the seals

Got everything bolted back on, I cleaned all the original nuts and bolts with my bench grinder and wire wheel.

And that's me up to date. I'm not going to put the wing on before I put wheels on and turn it round to do the other side.

Question to people who have put coilovers on, my anti roll bar is now nowhere near the bottom arm! Do I need to adjust them more so the arm eventually drops down?

8/2/14

Put the wheels back on and got the car back on the ground. It's a bit too low at the minute. Think I need to adjust the spring a bit tighter on the shocker at the front.

Update 9/2/14

After putting the drivers side back together Ive pulled the car out and had a good tidy of my workshop and swept it all out ready to do the passenger side.

Taken the bumper off fully now and the passenger side wing.

I'm amazed how much crap has come out the wing and from the side skirts!

Same on this side with the rust and messy hubs etc. I've hammered everything with a decent release agent before I try and remove anything!

Update 11/2/14

Got stuck in this morning again and got the front end stripped! Learnt my lesson and bought a blow torch to free off some of the rusty nuts

Looks like this at the minute.

Dumped all the gearbox oil when I pulled the driveshaft off. Hence all the absorbent granuals. :speechles

Also I did a swap with a chap who had the ktec stealth system who wanted a recessed back box like mine. Win win situation!

Perfect to go with my Oem+ theme.

Sounds just as good but you can't see it behind the bumper.

Update 12/2/14

Got the parts I'd taken off ready to go to shot blast/ powdercoat today, stripped calipers of pistons and seals etc.

B5B44D69-1168-4202-A8AC-413D05C85B99_zps4g0qtqgd.jpg

Thought I'd show you how bad the rust is on the hub

Then the caliper

And then this is a stripped rear caliper

8BC6E112-50B7-4A39-87E7-3AD9CAE8DBCA_zpscmakpjj4.jpg

Had a few issues when I was using the car with the rear brake balance and after looking these rear slider pins were seized up pretty bad.

You can see these are fairly rough and corroded so will need to clean them up and grease them properly when re building. :thumb:

Update 5/3/14

Just a small one today as I have been doing a lot of overtime at work.

Got the parts dropped off and now collected painted.

Look so much better

Update 19/3/14

I've got the car back together (almost) but gave all the chassis and engine area a deep clean

After this I got some new fog lights as one of mine had rusted inside the lens, so I swapped these before rebuilding.

It's now insured and will be going to my friends workshop for mot once the new tyres are here. :thumb:

Update 25/3/14

Well I've had a busy afternoon after my night shift. Managed to get the new coil pack, leads and plugs fitted. Instantly sorted out the misfire and now runs like a dream.

Inlet manifold stripped to get the leads and plugs off

9DD103C7-E682-46F6-9614-0ADEAD2C69EC_zpsuoaackax.jpg

Leaving access to the plugs

C1D8118D-3088-49C8-928D-02FDDC6CA786_zpsfhqszhrq.jpg

When I took them out I was pretty shocked at the state of them :doublesho

Terrible condition on the electrode and the plug itself.

Replaced them with these

Then the new leads and coil pack replaced and re connected

My heart sank when I first started it up as it was idling terribly! But then I noticed I hadn't connected the throttle body

Whilst the car was outside I got some of the trim put back on as well as the panel round the wipers

This gives an idea of how the rear is sitting

Fronts just need lowering on the coilovers a little more to level it off

13A9DC99-8CD5-40C4-8386-74AD9B6513B7_zpsjrgodztd.jpg

This is how the stealth system looks as well. New bumper will get rid of that cut out from the exhaust.

Then this is the interior

Bit scruffy and needs a good clean. Not sure what to do with the wheel to be honest, might get a sports wheel.

Update 3/4/14

Car was in for alignment set up today.

Went to my local bush tyres for this as they have a laser scanning machine.

Also got a few graphics I liked from eBay

This one on the bonnet

And it's now home and tucked away in the garage. :thumb:
