Subframe / rack removal

The subframe is hanging off, the only part still holding it on is the rack but I can't see where the rack bolts to the column.

I thought it was the 13mm nut under the rubber gaitor on the rack by the bulkhead but I can't get that off because the stud spins and there's no way of holding it. So I figured it must be somewhere else..

That's the only thing holding the column to the rack mate.

Ffs so the c***s at Renault decided on fitting a stud with a round head you can't stop spinning. French...

the shaft is oval/flatter so it shouldn't spin.

It's definitely spinning. I'll have another go tomorrow as a mate is coming over to help get the engine out.

Bend the tabs back with a pry at if poss as I'm guessing someone has put a differnt nut in at some time and used their fingers to hold it until the nut has nipped and now with a little corrosion its locked to the bolt.

Either that or the tabs are just bent and not holding the original nut properly.

Am I missing something? Removing subframe to take the engine out?

If your taking off the subframe to powder coat etc maybe wait until the engine is out?

Unless you undo the column inside the car and it will just slide out. It's on a spline sleeve

Managed to get some mole grips on the stud and got it off.
