The £600 Cup Track Build

Back in a clio again! This time just purely for a track toy, and something to play with while waiting on the Golf arriving (If it ever does).

Got a text from @Fraser.J. asking if i fancied his cup (http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?752838-172-cup-bargain-project-to-be-mint!), been off the road for over a year and has a noisy dephaser and a few niggles that need seeing to, however all in £600 perfect for what I'm after. Currently has no wheels, hopefully pick up some 2118's later on.

Did come with:

Ktec top mounts
Ktec coilovers
Spax adjustable rear shocks

Plans are:

Full service including belts/dephaser
Suspension refresh
Brake refresh
Fully strip interior
Good clean
Get some good seats/harnesses/roll cage

Hope to keep the budget down but going by most builds on here that never happens :rasp:

Not the most exciting of starts but good to know its clean! Looking forward to tackling the belts, biggest job id done on a car prior was change the brakes so learning a lot as i go :).

Thanks for looking!

I have a poly dog bone mount if you need one Arran.

Turns out it already has one Neil, thanks anyway!

Looking good so far mate, can't wait to see further updates

Bloody hell, you have cleaned that up well :)

Wow shocked about the engine bay clean up! looked filthy and a bit rusty from the first pics. looks like you had it re sprayed.

Cheers guys! Was shocked myself on how well the bay cleaned up, saves spraying it :)

Put the suspension back together and threw them on for its first move since getting it:

I've decided to keep the omp strut brace and get it powdercoated with the rest of the parts. Ditched the self tappers and drilled bigger holes and got some M6 bolts. Trial fit:

I then FINALLY got the last Bell housing bolt out after it rounding off. Got the engine mounted on the stand ready for all the cleaning, painting and belts.

Yesterday I got some D43 paint made up for the tatty bits in the engine bay, decided to spray the scuttle panel to freshen it up:

Need to finish the rest off tomorrow, we hopefully get the parts of the bay sprayed and make a start on the gearbox and engine.

All fun fun fun!

Next up is get the belts done and send off all the bits for powdercoating. Would love to get the subframe done but thinking it'll be more hassle than its worth.

Well another small update, barely had any time on the car since last time. Been thinking of what to do regarding suspension while working away. Currently got Ktec's on the front, not sure on milage and use so decided I'm going to get some Bilsteins soon to replace. Anyone after the front coilovers make me an offer. Come with Koni rear shocks I think.

Anyway whipped them off:

Planed to replace all bushes etc and was always thinking the subframe was letting things down cosmetically so whipped it off and stripped it down ready for it all to be coated with the rest of bits.
As always nothings ever easy. First 3 bolts spun and the last was one of the tightest I've came across, hand made bar to the rescue:

Stripped. All bushes well gone so good to get done. Thinking of doing the Epas conversion while I'm at it also.

Locked the engine up and removed the rocker cover to be coated as well, hopefully get the lot sent off on Monday all going well!

If it's just a track car, ditch the power steering all together. Makes life soooo much easier.

Awesome mate

Fantastic work Arran.

I think this is my favourite type of project thread. I'll be watching with interest

Brilliant, too good to track now and a Billy bargain

Thanks guys, hopefully keep it interesting

Looking cool mate can't wait to get mine up and running too. As for powder coating the rocket cover make sure they tape off the internal prior to blasting I know a few people that have had a nightmare polishing the cam journals as they have powder coated it :(

Small update,

Had the wonderful task of cleaning the gearbox, I never want to do this again in my life so I pray it never breaks! Got most of with degreaser and then sprayed it up with some silver bbq paint.

Got a text today saying that all my parts I sent away for powercoating were ready. Went yellow in the end, happy with the results, just waiting on the other buys to start building!

Ive opted to just go for new cup shocks with cooksports at the moment, I've never done a track day yet so for me this will do to start with and if I'm future want more I can upgrade. Ordered new ball joints, track rods + ends and full powerflex kit for all the suspension, the things should be pretty stiff when built.

Now the rocker cover is back I can crack on with doing the belts and get it all put back together finally, here's where the fun begins ;)

Yeah Mikeys good Neil!

Cheers Mark, I'm honestly not that good at cleaning lol gearbox was doing my head in, could of been a lot cleaner but I just tested what the paint would do and it covered the other bits lol

It looks a great job mate!

I'm getting belts done on mine in a few weeks and removing the gearbox to be sent away for refurbishing and want to clean both up before refitting and if it looks like yours then I'd be more thank happy.
