so hopefully going down to remove the engine loom today, will see how that goes,
i also need to re-think the boot floor, the ally fabrication chap said for the ££££ it will cost it will probably not be worth the weight saving

anyones thoughts?

  CLIO PH1 172
just leave it imo only reason i would ever think about a 182 floor is if i wanted a straight pipe.

'Boner, you need to speak to sam. (If you remember him)

He's about to start a 182 boot floor conversion.

Hi Neil
Why don't you source a front end damaged 182 in a scrap yard and grind the rear floor out?
At least it won't cost you a arm and a leg to customise a sheet of metal to fit.

What's the current play/state? It looks a mess dude! Lol.

I like that grey but it seems an awful lot of work for barely much colour change. I think it needs something bright to contrast the wheels. Lambo green. Ferrari red. Porsche orange. Something like that.

It's alot of work mate on the floor pan, I know this is no compromise but it's a lot of work for a tiny saving

the reason the ally would of been a pain is to get the strength would mean 4mm ally so that would mean hardly any saving,
the boot floor from a 182 is only £150 so would just order that...

the car is basically a shell, with engine, no loom etc anywhere.... prep for paint, then get it back and re-assemble then take to matt for new loom and mapping.
it is a state, but you have to go backwards to go forwards.... my painter friend wants to take inspiration from clio cups etc... and paint it race style, i am just worried it will look to aggro for what it is

He's building it from scratch. Proper talented guy.

When we've got some time off over xmas/new year you'll have to pop down to the unit where we keep the track cars! ;)

Depends on what colour you go for mate, silver in the bay doesn't really look that bad.If you've got a crane go for it. You can do the cross member and wings, so the struts the only part you really see when it's in. Im spraying mine black

The boot floor is very thin anyway. When I came to drill some holes in mine the centre punch nearly made the holes for me.

i think i could be ordering the new boot floor tomorrow.... lets do this right hey....
dan - how is he making this from scratch?

get it smoothed, painted and tucked ;)

Do it Neil, you will only regret not doing the bay when the car is painted!
The engine could be out in 3hrs ;)

I'd be tempted to paint the bay too, you'll wish you had when it's finished

adam - it won't be getting tucked etc...lol, but there won't be too many wires left.
keiran - so what time are you down next weekend? lol.... i am extremely tempted now also, it will be the right way to do things i think, may be good to get the block out and have a ganders too, i can borrow an engine crane, will just need a hand to remove it....

will text painter mate tomorrow to let him know the bad/good news

painter won't mind, well unless you want him to help remove it maybe lol

I don't really regret not painting mine tbh as the struts can be done afterwards, it's a forgiving layout.

This is all about no compromise though ;)

he is a very good mate, he will love the extra £££ for the work, but i doubt he will help remove it... he'd rather sit back and laugh...lol
the way i think about it now is.... its the only real time it makes sense.... why not do it properly?

Do it right, first time..

Then you can sit back after all the hard graft and think 'Fcuk Yeah, that's my car biiitches' :approve:

For the couple of hours removing the lump, you may as well. It's winter anyway, so it's got another 6 months in the garage easy ;)

boot floor ordered, its on back-order from france,
i have had another idea colour-wise that may mean the bay doesn't need painting, but if i need to remove the engine it won't sway my colour choice

Won't take 20 minutes ;) engine, shafts, box, subframe took about 30 to remove once loom and ancillaries had gone

I'm up for that
