Just to be clear to avoid confusion, i dug the broken waterpump out of Andy's box of bits the other day, its had a new pump already (ie ages ago)

point being was it had been running previously (before we touched it) with that broken pump

More importantly, what's the deal with your link in your avatar lol.

Edit, was some dodgy software taking me to Lionel's greatest hits LOL.

Nah - I want the Trophy back mate. Good things come to those who wait, remember? LOL! Mind you, I'd love to keep the Vee as well if I could. Fantastic car and a really engaging drive. :)

No idea how long I was running with the broken pump. This is why I was so, so, SO pi$$ed off with previous specialists work. I'd paid in the order of thousands to get the various problems fixed, engine pulled apart and inspected, etc. and not a single thing was picked up. It was given the thumbs up / green light. Obviously I was as surprised as anyone when Fred pulled it apart and found the issues. I was not a happy bunny.

Here are a few more pics courtesy of Fred (from earlier in the build).

Not very healthy at all and it will take more than a few paracetamol...

The thermostat that's seen better days...

Blue silicone (instant gasket) floating around in the water jacket...

And the cam timing as Fred received it, having had the timing and cambelt done at TDF / Track Group / WhateverTheyAreCalled...

From the evidence it would suggest that I didn't give a damn about the car and it's engine - which is frustrating considering the amount of time, money and love invested in the pink shed! :dead:

But the T's looking in a lot healthier shape nowadays. Roll on the New Year...

Really looking forward to this being done Andy.

I check in here every so often just to have a nose around.

Coming out for some track days next year?

This is the one in looking forward to most. Looks like it might be a while longer if Fred's arm is anything to go by.

That's the plan, Sam. I'm certainly planning on putting some 'fun' mileage on it next year. I've already got a few road trips planned and will be looking to fit a handful of trackdays in as well. I'm getting quite excited now.

Yeah, it was more than a bit of a bummer about Fred's arm! :( At least he's on holiday now for some downtime and relaxation (hopefully). The main thing is he's got two arms so not all is lost... :p Joking aside, get well soon Freddie.

I saw it yesterday, nice.
Any pics / information, Tony?! Fred is keeping it from me; a bit of a surprise I think. By the time I see it, it should be run in, mapped and good to go...

How far off is it mate?

Tony probably knows more than me... hahaha! It's pretty much there, Chi. It's going for mapping around the second week of January (or as soon as Paul at RS Tuning can fit it in).

Is it on Jenveys or is it boosted?

I bet you can not wait to drive it again, im missing mine and its only been off the road since sept.

On jenveys with forged internals etc

I think!
Yep - high compression NA build, running on forged internals and Jenveys. A few other bits and tweaks as well. And the addition of a diff. I'll post up a full spec and pics when I get it back. :) I'm very much looking forward to writing that project thread update! :D

He's an NA "rev head".
I am indeed :) As I've said before, I appreciate a good forced induction build as much as anyone but I prefer NA myself. I like the relatively highly-strung edge that a 'fruity' NA setup can provide, especially on a small and nimble car like the Trophy.

Sorting out the details at the moment, mate. I'll let you know when things are a bit more concrete. There may also be another couple of trips that interest you so I'll give you a shout regarding those, too (although it's not until around April time). :)

what a build thread. it taken me about 4 hours to get through it lol. i got to page 25 and decided i had to read only your comments or id never be done. cant believe how much trouble you have had with it but sounds like its gona work out now. considering the start date of the thread i really thought id get to the end and read an awesome bhp conclusion.forgive me for being dissapointed as im now desperate for the final result lol.

 Thanks for taking the time to read through it, mate... but equally sorry to disappoint you! However, it really is in the final stages now and will be back home in South Wales very soon. All that remains is for Fred at BTM to get his arm fixed and then for the mapping! Don't be expecting massive bhp though; the idea was not to chase big numbers otherwise I would have gone down the turbo or supercharger route. :) Still, it shouldn't be too shy for an NA Clio. I'm certainly looking forward to the results.

Patience, my friend... patience. With all the s**t that's happened recently I'm not sure I'll have any money left to pay Fred anyway... (just kidding by the way!)

It's ok Fred doesn't do it for the money. ..
Fags and Red Bull? :)

Hurry up, I want mine done and I've left him alone to do yours Andy.
Sorry mate... believe me, I want it back too. :p Besides, his Vee is starting to cost me a fortune now what with replacement ignition coils and new tyres. Talking of which, I think it will need two new rears very soon! (Still f'ing love it though!)

I think he's waiting for the belts to be due ;)
Hmm... didn't think about that one! :banghead:

We'll have to organise a Welsh trip to the Ring when this is all done. :)
There'll be plenty of trip/drive opportunities for sure - just not sure where yet! If I'm going over to the 'Ring I'd rather drive some of the surrounding area roads to be honest. Not at all a fan of TF these days; too many idiots and I wouldn't risk it. An organised track day would be better, but pricey. Lots of local drives planned if you are interested though. :)

Well, we do have the best roads in Britain only just up the road. :rasp: Last time I went to a PH/Clio meet for a Brecon drive, it was a great laugh.

I won't argue; I would agree in that we have some of the best roads within a stone's throw. I've never actually been on a PH meet (not yet anyway) but might pop along to one or two through 2014. Been to a couple of well-organised Clio meets though and they were better than I expected! Usually you get an idiot or two turn up but, I'm glad to say, the ones I went on had good people and sensible drivers! Hopefully catch you at a meet / drive sometime. :)

Let me know when yours is done so I can then get mine ( Altho I'm sure he'll tell me to f**k off after last time  )

As far as I can see, hear its coming along nicely sharky! :)
I will do, mate. :) To be honest, I don't really have a clue how it's coming along so I'm relying on the likes of your good self and others to report back as and when you can. It's so close now... want it bad.

I find there's near enough zero idiots on TF at the 'ring these days mate, so please don't let that put you off. Even driving round the 'ring at slow speeds is enjoyable. That way you get to experience the sheer pace at which some cars come past you and disappear off into the distance! It still takes me by surprise now and I've been going there for the past 10 years!

I think that with the constant price hikes the majority of idiots have been priced out of it too. When I started going it was circa €8 per lap - for 2014 it's €27! Try and avoid German and Uk bank holidays as well if you go as it's always stupidly busy at those times.

Cheers mate. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a 'Ring hater (ooer) :) I have been around a few times now although not for a couple of years. I did prefer it 8-10 years ago when it was relatively unknown though. The last few visits have been absolutely chockablock but I guess they probably weren't the best times to visit! Yeah, like yourself I was/am blown away by the speed that some of the cars just fly past. Incredible.

I think I'm a bit more cautious due to the distance if something goes awry; especially as the Trophy is also my daily. I'd happily hire a Swift and go around though... just not too keen now I've invested so much in the Trophy. That said, I'm more than happy to track it over here where recovery might be a bit cheaper! Having had a couple of mates who've had oopsies on there probably doesn't help. 27 Euros is steep though!
