I wasn't aware of the latter part with TDF so it does read a little clearly now.
You say you have to justify yourself but I don't think anyone is asking you to do that certainly not me (you know well enough)
Thing is when you do a detailed build thread like this people will ask questions because they are showing an interest in you and your car build not asking you to justify yourself. If they didn't what's the point in doing the thread
When only half the info is given it easy for people to see gaps and then ask questions and that's how rumours start... Not that I've heard any mind.
I hope you are taking this to trading standards so they can look into it and no one else gets treated so badly. If you need any details let me know I've done a lot of work with them recently (I'm with them today funny enough with rouge traders) so have a few contacts there.
A DC5 wouldn't have suited you the pink trophy is so much better lol

You hit the nail on the head really though; it's been a quite detailed thread throughout and people are genuinely interested, hence the questions and debate. It's sometimes a bit awkward getting context across to a reader on a forum as well. But yes, there is certainly more to the story than has been posted and I acknowledge that there are details that haven't been posted up. As mentioned, there are reasons those details weren't posted but I have always tried to give an accurate account of the trials and tribulations of Trophy #165 purely from my ownership point-of-view. Since I've had these problems it has been sad to see that there have been a few people with almost identical stories to mine. It's not for me to comment on those but it has certainly made me a lot more weary and, believe it or not, careful about where I decide to spend my hard-earned!Regarding Trading Standards, thanks for the offer of contacts and help. As far as I am now concerned it is all water under the bridge and things came to a close on these problems a while back. I'm not wasting anymore time or worry on that particular chapter and have moved on.
Talking of trading standards, I hope it's through work that you are dealing with them and not because you've been unlucky with rogue traders!Oh, and yes - Pink is still my colour. Championship Beige just doesn't do it for me!

So then... today I put on my RenaultSport Specialist head and got to work on the V6. :rasp: I thought it only fair considering the amount of effort Fred is putting into mine. It can't be that difficult, right?
As mentioned a handful of days ago, I basically soiled my undercrackers when I jumped into the car one evening and was met with violent judders and a rather strange sound from the engine and exhaust. Whilst I panicked, it was Fred and Dan that suggested it was ignition coil related. Especially as these are a common weak point on the Vee and the fact that these ignition coils were over 9 years old... It didn't help that the boot lock had also stopped working at the same time (coincidence?!) so I could only lock the doors. Consequently the Vee was parked up safe where nobody could access via the boot!
To bring things up-to-date... I received the ignition coil and fitted it earlier today (thank you Renparts). Despite being the easiest one to access (thanks to Somerset Dan the RenaultSport Man) I still managed to slice a few fingers and graze a few knuckles as I replaced the faulty item with the new. 15 minutes later it was done; that's 1 minute to swap the coil and 14 minutes to put the engine covers back on... However, this very same act also meant that the boot now worked. Two jobs done for the price of one. Bonus! Although I have no idea why the faulty ignition coil would affect the boot lock mechanism... French electrics at work?
With the coil done and the boot working, I'm just about to start on replacing the cambelt this evening. Don't worry, I'm using genuine parts! :rofl: Access isn't so easy though. I might have to drop the engine onto a palette on the driveway.
The only outstanding issue I have now is... a puncture! I have two brand new Michelin Pilot Super Sports being delivered and fitted on Monday. As a result I won't be driving it over the weekend and it won't be making the journey to this weekend's BTCC finale at Brands Hatch. Alternative arrangements have been made.
Oh, did I tell you I was going to Brands Hatch for the BTCC finale this weekend? I'll be there with my mate Rob Austin. Ok, so we're not mates as such but I won a graphic design competition recently (to produce a sticker for Wix Racing UK / Rob Austin Racing) and I won. Hence I will be enjoying a day of VIP hospitality with Rob Austin Racing for the day. Quite excited and looking forward to it if I'm being honest.

Strangely enough I purchased most of the parts for this build 'as new' via ebay... from some place near Brum. Some nice parts to be honest and practically enough of them to build a complete engine up.

The Vee is running beautifully mate. Two new tyres on the front (due to a puncture and wear) and the engine is purring again (with the replacement ignition coil installed). The only problem is the weather here in sunny Wales. The torrential and constant downpours are horrendous at the moment and the front end gets a bit light, seemingly enjoying a bit of aquaplaning - even at relatively low speeds! That said, drive it sensibly and there's no problem whatsoever but it's certainly made me appreciate it and how lively it can be. Love it. I could do with a couple of days of decent weather to give it a clean and polish/wax.

To be honest mate... YES! They've made a significant difference. I think the old ones had passed their best and the puncture was a blessing. When the fitter took the tyres off, the punctured wheel was in a bit of a state and you could see the cord through the cracks in places.

I'm keeping it!Seriously, it's just such a great car to drive. Whereas the Trophy is p!$$ easy to drive (and very forgiving) the Vee would just throw you through a hedge backwards if you tried to throw it around the same way (not that I've been reckless in Fred's car!) I'm no Stig and I'll never be anywhere near as competent as Fred at driving but it will be sad to give it back as I've actually learnt a lot driving this. Sounds a bit soft, but it's absolutely true. Take a corner a little too enthusiastically and you feel the weight behind you and that it wants to swing/break out if you give it an ounce too much. I wouldn't even tempt it as I wouldn't fancy my chances at catching it but in the hands of someone like Fred I expect it could be quite potent.
It's also a bit quicker than I imagined it to be. It's often commented that the Vee's aren't really much quicker than 1*2's (and I guess they aren't on paper) but once up and running, and in the sweetspot, it can carry speed well. It's actually fairly beefy towards the top end (or so I hear)
Then there's the presence. It oozes it. Cars generally tend to get out the way when driving, folks stop to ask what it is, and it gets a lot of looks. In work we currently have some UAE contractors on-site and they were taking photos and asking about it. They were quite interested in purchasing it...! As was my neighbour.

You may as well buy it off Fred now mate, have the ultimate Renault drive way lol. Would be a tough decision which one to take out though.
Shame the trophy is taking so long, it certainly isn't going to be a rush job lol, Fred likes to take his time with things....and generally smoking tabs.
