You may recall a thread I put up which was titled '£30k to spend, what performance car?'
(link http://cliosport.net/threads/£30k-to-spend-what-performance-car.807114/page-3#post-11383734)

After looking through all of the suggestions and thinking about what I want from the car. I came to the conclusion that the 996 C4S was the best upgrade for me.
I have started the hunt now for the C4S in order to see what the market is like and see if I can find the perfect car for August, just so I get the car before my 21st Birthday.

One thing I have noticed when sifting through the classifieds is that all the cars I have fallen in love with are either TipTronic or Cat D.
For instance:
Not the biggest fan of the silver (makes it look way more dated) but the bright red looked really interesting! However TIP F**KIN TRONIC!
http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C636308

Another one in absolutely mint condition with appropriate miles and a bloody good price! surely noth......TIP F****KIN TRONIC!
http://www.preloved.co.uk/adverts/s...ewsnow&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=trovitcars

This beauty is perfect spec for me, but its a CAT D :(
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif...e=lu15qu&make=PORSCHE&price-from=19000&page=4

My perfect spec is out there. Preferably basalt black with alloy colored turbo twists and with high spec. Alot of silver cars have come up so if push does come to shove I might get a silver one and maybe get it wrapped? But black and get it paint protected is much better!
Anyway hope to update this thread over the next couple weeks and hopefully with your guys help find the right car!
Oh before I forget budget is up to £22500 (85k ish miles)

£20K, I wouldn't be looking at them at them, specially at 21.

That will be a nice car for a 21 yr old but my god I cant stand those style lights on the front.

It's the time to get your dream car when you're young with no commitments. Just be prepared to be spending all your money on it!

Fair play, im sure they're great but my god they look so old, and that dash!!
Haha yeah I know the looks are very marmite. I've always like the 996 turbo so the looks aren't a problem personally. The interior on the other hand does look weird, however my focus will be on the 5 dials and open road so it's not a issue

My boss had a 996 4S, with the turbo body kit on. Whilst it was a very nice car, it wasn't that quick. Bit of a pub talk comment, but honestly I had many a tug with it in my ITB 172 and it used to keep with him pretty happily to the speed limit. I just think it's owning a Porsche for the sake of a Porsche in some respects.

Each to their own though, you're young and you need to scratch that itch, at least then you can say you've done it. Just to throw another spanner in the works, would I own an ITB 172 over a C4S? my head wants to say no but my body says yes!

My old man's not long bought a 997 Carrera (2) S. It's not the same car, i know, but it's really changed my view on 911's. I've never really been that keen if i'm honest but i can definitely see the appeal now. His is a Tiptronic but he's 65 and hasn't driven a manual in ages so he didn't really fancy a manual.

Anyway, all the best on your search mate.

My god these have gone up in price.

My boss sold his one a few years back for £18,000!

Black with tan interior. He had it from new and it had about 25k miles on the clock. Mental

Yup. Same as my mate. Bought his Speed Yellow facelift C4S for £20k in 2013.
They've gone up a lot since then

Hmmm, I'd have another look at the list of potentials!

Personally I think they look dated and f'ugly!

There's a video on YouTube (first video if you search Porsche 996 c4s I believe) they do a rolling race between the 2016 c4s and the 996. The 996 only lost by 3 car lengths. Considering the £50k price difference that ain't bad. I've always been pulled in by Porsche especially the 911's. 911T is one of my faves along with 933 RWB versions. It's a good way to enter this brand IMO and maybe some day I can return with a GT3 or GT3 RS lol

Can't you go one model up there are a few in your budget ?
I assume you mean the 997? I like the 996 because (gonna sound lame) but theres a connection there. Driving it in racing games, the scene from gone in 60 seconds when it gets driven out of the showroom, the poster of the 996 turbo on my wall as a kid, the glorious flat 6 sound, the fact its the ugliest most hated 911, its also becoming a modern classic. By all means the 997 is more powerful, better to drive, newer etc.. but its not the 911 I want. Its only until I posted the performance car thread I realized that I could own one. I'd love to own a 911T but there to expensive or a GT3 RS but again way to expensive.
Also to note insurance is a major factor. It was also the reason why some of the cars that were suggested I couldnt go for.

I'm going to view a 997 c2s Sunday. I'm sure I'll call in love and buy it, heart ring head.

Rear end on the 996 c4s is by far the nicest of the modern 911's

What's your budget??

If you're buying a 997 c2s please try and buy a gen 2, gets you away from bore scoring issues iirc

Can't afford that much, but the one I'm looking at tomorrow has had a full hartech rebuild.

Wow that's some car to be going for at your age. I don't know your circumstances but make sure you aren't getting the 911 at the expensive of everything else (holidays with mates etc). You never get to be 20 again but you can always buy a car...

Well if your serious, make sure what ever you buy had had the aircon rads changed, all suspensions arms and get the oil cooler and rad checked.

Suspension arms and aircon rads alone would set you back 2.5k

Even I could pull with a 911 at 20.
