Thinking Of Lowering 172 - Help

R

Think my main gripe after 2500 miles is excess body roll, Want to improve handling without ending up with a kerb-posing mobile where geometry is totally shot and I get tyre wear big time.

Hillpower supply & fit Avo springs for £164 inv vat so would be about £150 with club discount - Not sure what drop is yet.

What happens if you have to have geometry reset and then at a later date you need tracking checking ? Do you get given the new settings to pass on to the garage or would you have to go back to Hillpower ?

TYRE WEAR ???? Do you still get it regardless ie camber issues

You can only alter the tracking on a std suspension setup, castor, camber, SAI is not adjutable.

So, you run the std tracking anyway.

rich, the AVO springs lower by -35mm all round. May be too much on front if you have 17s. I have Gmax -25 all round and the front wheels scrub on full lock.

I am buying a set of Apex -40mm springs, and just putting them on the rear. Am hoping it wont stuff up geometry too. I think the BB Performance Tuning -40mm springs are also Apex.

An Eibach Pro spring kit will lower the car by about 25mm all round. I have 17s on with these springs and no rubbing whatsoever. You only need to get the wheel alignment checked after fitting the springs.

Am running std alloys & tyres, also std shockers - only wanna change the springs - do you reckon avos will be ok from hillpower or are eibach pro better

Eibach are better because they are progressive springs. Dont get anything else unless youre going for full on coilovers.

Rob, would the std shockers be alright with the Eibach Pro or it would be just a matter of time that the std shockers burn out?

  Clio II and Grand Modus

std. shocks are ok with the Eibach pro-kit. Have it on mine for a year now......Getting a full H&R -70mm soon, but the Eibachs have been very good

hey,

have recently lowered my 172 mk1 40mm on apex springs, still on standard wheels and shocks, now has no body roll and handles the nuts!!! didnt have to touch the cambre or tracking?

cheers all, will confirm with nick @ hillpower if the avos are progressive, might also see if hed be ok with me supplying the eibach pros and fitting them for me

k-tech & bbpt are too far for me to travel, only place id trust within 50 miles of here is well lane turbos @ batley but to be honest id rather get someone who knows clios inside out to do the work rather than a general tuner, always found nick very helpful and think £150ish fitted all-in is ok.
