Tyre sidewall damage - safe to use?

F&B

Hi people,

I got a spare Turini with a Conti when I bought the car - the first owner bumped a kerb and decided to get a new rim and demoted this one to a spare.

I'm now wondering if it's safe to use the tyre, there's a shallow slice into the sidewall (no threads visible) but I'm not sure whether this is ok to use.

What do you guys think? (Apologies for the rubbish pics - taken about 15 minutes ago in the pitch black) -

Thanks

Hard to say as it hasnt been driven thus a bulge hasnt had chance to develop,

Doesnt look to bad obvously best option is to replace but cant see it failing MOT and you shouldnt be rolling on spares for too long any way.

Change it! Not worth the risk, it would fail an MOT and if you got pulled with it on you would be handed 3 points. For the sake of a few £ not worth it.

this happened to me... i got run off the road by a car on the wrong side of the road... had to bump up the kerb and put a massive slit in the sidewall because the part of the wheel the tyre hit was kerbed...

...spoke to around 5 garages/tyre places.... all said replace it as its the only thing between you and the road

Right, thanks for the replies, it's getting binned and replaced.

Cheers
