** Vee on the RR 03/10. 251BHP **

Ali

  V6, Trackhawk, GTS
Made a trip to falkland y'day to find out the power the Vee was putting out. From previous experiences most V6 owners have had figures ranging from 240-250bhp. Down on the Reno claims, but thats hardly a shocker. I was hoping for between the two. Cars Got an aftermarket exhaust and was apparently remapped.

After pissing about for 20mins, tryin to get the car secured, the boys managed it, All engine covers off and Kev was sweating buckets! - Trust me it gets warm in the car with the covers off, In excess of 30deg! Even with the boot open! HA!

When i bought the car i was given a remap chip, So i asked Kev to see if the Remap was still on the car or if it had been wiped - Again no shocker, Reno had wiped it off! So this Run was in std form.

Very impresses with the run, Granted RR's are a bit hit or miss, But i was impresses with Kev's knowledge and the setup he had in the garage.

So 251BHP!!! - 135mph in 5th gear, he was bricking it! I asked him how the fueling was throughout the run and his reply was priceless:

-"Aye fine till about 90mph, then i was too s**t scared to look at the monitor!!"

Unfortuneately after the run we noticed a small oil leak, think it was from the gearbox, So we didn't want to risk another run. Either way Kev agree'd to redo the Remap that was on my customer key and Bloody hell what a difference, so much torque and noticeable quicker top end! 7600Rpm now aswell!! Yehhaaa - Can't wait to get the car on the rollers again! It'll defo be higher.

For the scotland boys, can't recomment Falkland high enough, Kev is brilliant and not just a business man like many other traders!

To put the icing on the cake, had all the geometry set up at IF motorsport today aswell, Night and day comparison and i'm going back next wk to try a few other tweaks to the damper rebound rates...(Vee does strugle a big over bumpy surfaces!)

Cheers

Thats a hell of a transmission loss for a RWD car. 184wbhp is a bit Lame IMO I've seen 225s making more at the wheels standard granted FWD , although as long as it drives ok and your happy with it then all is good.

BTW I take rolling roads with a large dose of Salt so it don't matter really. :D

Figures are figures mate! Like you said, RR's differ, consistency is the key if your mod'in. I'll defo be using Falkland again.

225 would get absolutely destroyed by the vee! Trust me! ;)

or the actual "rule of thumb" is the gear closest to 1:1 drive ratio ;)

(dunno what the ratios are for the V6, never checked!)

I'm sure it would as they ain't no replacement for displacement lol.

I've just seen quite a few 255s making 200 at the wheels more often than not. Yeah basically if you same dyno everytime in the same sort of weather then you'll get a good indication.

I've heard AVA in scotland have the best rollers around, maybe just a rumour though.

Meh, Dunno, Left it in his capeable hands.

Standing joke was if it came off the rollers it would make a cracking shape in the unit wall! lol

lol, it's weird, i heard they had the worst! - They are Turbo specialist, but heard alot of horror stories about them too... Then again who do you trust.

I've used Dastek previously, was very impressed with their set up, but the mechanical knowledge was poor imo.

Star performance, use the same rollers as Falkland, but apparently they read high...We'll find out that one on sunday. For a type R scotland meet.

Was in a 225 at the weekend, was impressed with the grunt. Looking back over my 172 dyno sheet, the transmission loss on that was about 50brake!!! So not much in it tbh...

AVA actually run the cars up differently to most as well, rather than just letting it rev through to the redline.

I rarely trust rolling roads. Like you said though, stick with the same one as a good comparison.

  a burnt one
I thought the majority of car manuals listed its top speed as being achievable in the gear below top, 4th for a 5 gear car, 5th for a 6 etc, top gear is basically a cruising gear is it not?

I notice you seem to be over this way a lot Ali, falkland performance is only 5 mins away from me did you also know about;

http://www.rjmperformancetuning.co.uk/home.cfm

which is just a few units away from Falkland and also;

http://www.starperformance.co.uk/

who are one if the biggest Modifiers ov VW and Audi in the uk, and AFAIK were the first in the uk to tune the RS4, to a silly spec

Both, aswell as Falkland have very good reputations round here.

Nice figures:)

There's a bit of friction/banter between Star and Falkland. They've both got MAHA RR's but they both read different. As much as 10Bhp Apparently.

I was pissed off last time we were at Star, car ran significantly less power than before and the guy stopped the run before it reached peak power!! Made him do it again and got higher power.

I'll give you a shout next time we're over, Stoddie lives near by so it was handy for us!

Kev was sayin alot of the VAG boys are breaking off and going to him and elsewhere...

Chris - Knowsit son! The sound was stunning, and now at 7600rpm is mindblowing! Car will do in excess of 160mph now!! - Not planning on tryin tho! ;)

It's September Jock strap! You must have lost all track of time with not having a job.

Looks like a good curve. Why did he take so long to run it up?

Oops! lol!

Yep the curve, the fueling and the temps were spot on! Healthy motor!

Takes a while to teach the computer, As it had just done a FWD car before.

Ali your car is fookin' lush mate, good RR result too. It's a horrible feeling being stood next to your car in those places while a stranger rags the nuts off it!!
Get the oil leak sorted and let's see the comparison figures laddo.

Not bad at all Ali.

I'm due to get mine done soon, it'll probs make 210bhp lol (it's a mk1 remember)

When I had my old Fiat coupe 20vt plus run on a rr I told the dude it had 6 gears, he said fine & ran it up in fourth. It still made 13bhp over standard though.

- I know rr's aren't to be taken as gospel.

  Golf R soon...
What was that Ali...

....You body kitted 1.2 only managed 45 bhp on the RR :rasp:

Falkland are fantastic. I've had a few things done there and the service is Grade A.

I tried Dastek once, and they mucked me about. Had to get Kevin to sort it, and he did!

Gorgeous car Ali!

What was the issue with securing the V whilst doin the run?

Tryin to find a place to strap it down mate, eventually removed a bit of the engine cover and wrapped it round the chassis....Somewhere.

Chris, daz...Ladies, no need to be jealous! ;)

^Only realised that this morning...! :) Wasn't sure if the 255 was PS or BHP claims from Reno!

Ali, why did they run it without the engine covers on & the boot open ?

Are they hard to strap down ??

Oil temp sensor into the dipstick thing...Coolin too mayb?

It's difficult to strap down due to the height and width, we had to strap it to the chassis, which meant taking a few screws off the engine cover! But then it was touching the exhaust so they put some heat proof tape on them...

Bit of cursing and swearing but we sorted it.

Sounds like a mission to me, i'm looking to get mine rr'd at one of the cs rr days.

With the map...dare i say it, i reckon 260 is possible! it's Seriously fast now! Above 90 i was side by side with my mates evo7!! Boy was nearly in tears!
