Views on 172/182/Cup Inlet manifold / GDI ECU / Cam Package

What are peoples views on the engine upgrade package below ?

172/182/Cup Inlet manifold / GDI ECU / Cam Package

http://www.greydevilindustries.com/products/product.asp?id=26

It includes;

Billet High Torque Cam
Modified ECU to suit modifications
Modified Inlet manifold

Would it be worth doing it to my 172 FF ?

As my current mods are;

Full Powerflow De-cat stainless exhaust system with stealth tailpipe.
K & N Panel filter in standard airbox with uprated lower grille feed and no acoustic valve.

As i think this would be my next step in tuning :)

Hi mate,

I have got the ECU on my car that is in that package if it's the Omex 600 and think it's great. The package that your getting would defo be worth getting and will be a great stepping stone to other mods. My car is with GDI @ the moment and their work is spot on as I'm sure alot of ppl will tell you on here. Close to 200 bhp in a little clio will defo put a smile on your face!

Your best bet is to phone Andy @ GDI and he will go through the package with you and ask you exactly what it is you want from your car and will taylor it for your needs.

Regards

Mark

Enjoy the car for what it is, spending £1500 or so on something that gives you about 15-20 brake isnt really worth it in my opinion especially on a clio, youl never see that money again

I'm sure that ppl know that they are never going to see a portion of the money that they spend on their car ever again, but it's all about the fun factor and the smile that appears on your face when planting the pedal?

i doubt very much its an omex s666mah, at £1550 inc vat & fitting, at best it will be a remap for his excisting ecu + cat cams & matched inlets. nice package though.

  RenaultSport clio 172 mk2
It says on the GDI website that its only a remapped standard ECU.

But if it delivers what it claims of substantial increases in low to mid-range torque, as well as close to 200 bhp, that'd be a very nice package for a road car. Even at 1550 pounds.

I hate when people post in threads like this saying they dont think its worth the money for the gains. I think it has been said enough on this forum that the F4R is expensive to tune, but at the end of the day it comes down to what people want from there cars. If someone wants better acceleration, and generally better engine performance then instead of saying 'dont bother its going to cost you a fortune for little gains' we should advise them on whats worth doing and whats not worth doing, and what works well together.

I'm not saying its a rip off or anything just personally think id rather have £1500 and put it towards something more constructive thats just how i feel i thought that was why these forums were here to discuss the pro and cons and how you feel about something. So saying you hate it when someone expresses what they think is a little unnecessary

i am lookin at doin this soon myself!! they say on a standard car u can expect increases on 20 - 25hp and increases the torque to around 170ft/lb!!

on a car that weighs nothin that sort of increase will b noticible!!!

Don't bother mate! Gains are avg...Little more imo.

A remap and ik/decat will easily keep in touch.

  clio 200 F4Rt
best tell cat cams/kent cams/piper cams to stop wasting thier time then... as a decat/ik and remap is all you need!!! lol

dont get too caught up in top end power figures, whilst they are nice, mid range gains are far more useful for day to day and spirited driving.

GDI are pushing things forward with the 1*2, devolping new products, and finding out what works best. So you cant go far wrong!

On a side note... glad i am not in the boat of spending money on my clio, seeing as the engine work its having done at the mo is costing double the value of the car!!! :D

no point, just get an IK, Peco big bore 18 and a remap, it will be quicker ;)

Cams inlets ecu etc make a very big difference but your a fair old trek from GDI for any possible needed after care as i found to my cost, although mine was a home brew package and a few years back.
What would have been a simple 2 minute sensor check turned out to be days of stress and expense so take distance into concideration before deciding

cHEERS MATE I NEVER THOUGHT OF PROBLEMS AFTER WARDS :(

Bloody caps lock.

What are the chances of problems though ?

very little to be honest.

other than normal issues with the engines, could be sensors etc...

it effectivly runs as a std car on that package...

the cams dont go wrong
i have never seen an ecu fail becuase of anyones remap
inlets (nothing to go wrong there)

Cheers Andy ;)

Another question,

How long does it take to do the work ?

And does it include a new cambelt in price ?

Jon how much would your conversion cost....

Now weigh it up comin from scotland, infact North scotland, The milage, the hassle, the fact it'll probably be problematic..

No ta. Cams will get you a bold 10bhp...And imo you need a good 20-25 to make a difference/or rather a worthwhile bhp gain per £x spent.

Mine was runnin headwork, inlets, remap, zorst, decat and maxogen and that was 192.6bhp and that could easily keep up with another 2 GDi cars.

Don't get me wrong it's nice to do, it but in hindsight i wish i hadn't bothered.
And i wouldn't do it again, with any company. Don't think i'm bein bias'd!

If it was me, I'd buy the cams direct from CAT or Schrick and nip to RStuning to have them fitted and mapped. Closer to you and Paul is a maping god on the OE ECU.

Ali are you a tuning expert?

no idea about tuning....i don't pretend too...But i've done clio tuning to a sensible level and i would consider it to be a pointless exercise.

If your going to go down this route....f**k knows who i'd give the business to. Nobody seems up to much.

To be honest I wouldn't trust anyone other than Andy Cutler and the GDI lads.

I was just making a point that too many ppl in here give out tuning advice that are not qualified.;)

Ali has experience on tuning the F4R so I'd say he's got a more than valid point. Are you a tuning expert?

have any of you lot actually EVER ASKED a company about their qualifications? or just gone there on a recommendation?

(ps Ali, i'm insulted princess)

Qualifications dont specialise in Renaults...thats experience.

And this is coming from someone who has a degree in motorsport engineering :p

'self taught' i read in a mag the other day ;)

  Lionel Richie
its also known as insanity ;)

i'd never take my car anywhere if the company had 0 qualifications, but hey, thats just me

theres alot to be said for both experience and qualifications. IMO its FAR better be eduacated on the theory AND THEN learning the practical skills, as opposed to knowing the little bit youve read here or there, AND being good with a spanner.
