Volvo 480 Turbo engine into clio 172 Phase 1

Car  Phase 1 172
Hello,

i know im probably going to get a right seeing to over even thinking about bastardising a clio 172 but.......

has anyone done this conversion? i know this is common with phase 1 clios and renault 5's however it offers great potention for boost and reliable decent power? and still offering a cheap option.

would like to know if this has been done and how?

many thanks

Tom

very pointless. Standard management does NOT like lots of boost, so tuning potential is hampered, unless you going for standalone

Then you might as well turbo a 172.

Backwards engineering is never forwards

the problem is that it's a waste of effort.

as said earlier, whack a blower on the 172 lump, easier and will bring a decent result.

dutty for youa 172 engine would make much more sense and for the op spending the money you would've spent on the volvo engine on almost anything else is a good idea!

It kinda makes sense in mk1s but really doesnt in mk2s. Still with hindsight we would never have done it. Took soooooooooo much effort and then the next time we did a conversion we chucked a valver engine in over a weekend!

it was just a thought, however the cost of turbo'ing a 172 lump is very costly. just wanted to do something different. have already done loads of different engine converstions on 205's but never anything with a clio.
would generally like to have a reliable 200bhp for around £1500 if its possible.

Dont do it. my mate did it. it turned our badly turned a releiable car into a useless one. its a lot of work and its hardly much quicker
