What price all in all for mk2 conversion to sport ???

  1.2 daily +172 ph1
Hi

I'm coming into some money end of the august and would like a change from the car ive had for over
2years.

Been looking at conversion to TCe D4ft but it kinda feels like a waste of money and more hassle than
initially Expected.

I would like to no what price in all changing to F4R and what I would need parts wise
Obversely engine, mounts ,subframe, writing loom, driveshafts And ECU but what else will I need for this conversion???

Or would it work out cheaper buying wright off Clio sport?

Will be insured as CS just vic check getting throw....

To be honest dude it would be so much cheaper to buy a CS - they are very affordable now.just trying to help :)

Take your own advice, if you can. Just buy a Renault Sport Clio.

It'll be nothing but utter ball-ache to to a conversion.

It's your money wasted at the end of the day matey, just remember it will cost more than a genuine RS to insure (classed as modified) and will be worth less when you come to sell.

If your happy with that then fair enough, from top of my head :172 engine 172 gearbox, flywheel and clutchengine loomecuuchkeys, dash and ignition barreldriveshaftswishbonessubframeanti roll bar, links, bushes etcengine mounts and bracketsfront brake setuprear axlerear suspension

  RS6 C7
so your gonna need:
Engine £500+ for a good one
gearbox £150 ish
seats £150
front bumper £120
rear bumper £50
side skirt £60
Get it all sprayed to match £150-200
Alloys? £250+
ecu/wires etc £200+
Fitting and im sure you will need s**t loads of other stuff say an extra £600 at least
£1500+ for a conversion...
you can buy a 172 cup for that.

EDIT
Forgot brakes, steering wheel dash trim, f**k me its expensive.

That's the aim of the game that way I've built car from scratch..

Building a car from scratch is getting a Westfield/Caterham and doing that.

Taking a mass produced french hatch and swapping panels/engine over isnt from scratch...? To echo what Russ said, if and when you go to sell it, someone will want a genuine one over one thats been 'fettled'

I understand all of the above about my insurance but I've got my quotes for these modification and it works out cheaper than initiall thought my quotes are working out £2000-£2200 per annum which is a very good price my issue is getting through VIC check making sure everything is secure and safe..

My initial thoughts are to by a write of clio sport mk2 change everything over that way.

Admitidly but as we all no with any modification on any vehicle you never gain money when selling.

You can pick up an ph1 for under a grand these days, a good one for £1500. Even ph2's are coming in under £2k now.

Really REALLY don't understand the point of making something you can already buy for less money ... :S

As has been said before, this was just about a worthwhile project 4+ years ago if you got a cheap engine and suchlike.

Understood but as said above I'm looking at prices of wright of clios of Clio spares.co.uk if I can pick up one with rear damage or quarter damage for under £1000 that works out to a well worth while project leaving menmoney spare for more modification Exg remap, cams, exhaust, induction if all goes well with picking one up....

spot on russ!!!along with my 182 ive got a escos rep! 170bhp running jenveys and i built it myself! not a prob as i run a bodyshop!! it dont go like a escos and it dont handle like a escos and its more expensive t insure than an escos because its a rep and modified!!!if you think you can make your car go and handle better than an original good luck!!!

I don't understand what you mean by handerling like and escos what ever one of them are my initial thoughts and knowledge is the only difference in handling were the suspension and proberly anti roll bar bushes Exg if thats the case there would not be a problem there if the lower subframe from an F4R is being droped in to the original D4f car

if your going to convert why not go the whole hog and get a meggy 225 lump?

Do not have any information on these mate let alone insuring my self with one on my original policy I'm on the limit with doing this F4R conversion...

it will probably cost you more than a decent condition 182, not to mention how long it would take. you could buy a decent 182 and then mod it ? you would then have a nicer car than conversion

  RS6 C7
Look whats just been listed in the forsale section, a 172 cup ph2 for 1k with light front end, I have seen loads of ph1 go for the £500 mark on ebay and pistonheads, you just have to keep an eye out and be quick.

For the amount of Renault Sports that are for sale im 100% certain id rather pay £1700-£2000 for a straight well looked after example than a heap with damage.

its a shame this place doesnt have more of a scene for engine conversions, i say go for it, will give you satisfaction! plus standard looking dynamiques with a mean stance with 180hp look cool!

Admittedly yh buy one standard would be better but my model colour would make my car hopefully first for conversion to sport. Let alone test my own capability and knowledge on this.

Project thread will be uploaded soon as some new parts arrive...

I've got a shed load of bits you can have for very reasonable money that you'll need ,my man.

Where you based?

If you really want to do the conversion just find a doner car , remove the whole front end running gear and all the wiring and re-fit to the non sport , but i would highly recommend you change the clutch , cambelt , dephaser and have the engine and gearbox checked over by a specialist or else it will turn into a money pit as mine did.

fair enough mate, what colour is your car ?

and as above if your really set on doing it i would look for a damaged/written off car to use as a doner car to get the majority of your bits and pieces. would be the cheapest way of doing it rather than buying them all seperate

Just buy a sport and see how much it would cost you to get insured through greenlight. Oh and full stops and commas work a treat btw ;)

I bought a ph2 172 doner car for less than 1k and took everything from that and put it in my 1.2 essentially a conversion

Swapped everything over and replaced belts etc and oils bushes etc

A few new parts total costs where about 2k maybe a little more including some aftermarket parts.

That's including the car and paying my mate to do the work and some parts.

Not bad if you want to keep your 1.2

Have a look at my project thread for more pics and info :)

FTW! My punctuality has never been good.

But were all bad at some things.

You're always late too? :dapprove:

Crazy decision really.

You're going to change everything apart from the basic shell, just to say you've done it?

Then more to insure it. The only bonus is that you'll pay less tax. But it'll take you a while to make it back on that basis.

The price difference between a converted CS to my original car works out to £2200 annum £2400 paying monthly which I think is a brilliant price compared to buying a standard CS works out to around £2100 so in my eyes I'm saving money....

  53 Clio's & counting
So it will cost (if you have mates like Mcaff) a conversion with a few other bits will cost you £2000 odd, and insurance £2400, where as you could buy a 172 for £2000, insure in for £2100 AND have whatever money you get selling your car in your pocket?I have to say thats not saving money dude.

  53 Clio's & counting
Just co confirm:
Conversion + insurance £4400
Buying 172 + insuring £4100
then mnus what you get for your car - say £1500
= £2600I know what id be doing

Due to the cost of a Sport model it just isn't worth it. Even if you did do it its not going to be such a super dooper blow everyone into the weeds conversion anyway!

The 225 turbo route is a very good shout tho.
