as you can see, its on this last photo of the car (hanging from the front bumper on the left..!), i noticed it whilst taking the pics tonight... pulled it out fairly easy like, was just totaly loose and hanging.... :dapprove: :S

any1 have an idea to what its from!?

thanks

fuel rail guard bolt. There are two holding it onto the front the of engine?

(metal lump just in front and below the cover - protects the fuel rail in case of a head on crunch)

Erm well it defo doesn't come from the bumper/headlights etc so I'd get checking around the bay.

1 of mine fell out too, I would imagine it fell down as that is right below where they are located in the bay and got caught in your undertray!

although... judging by the size of it its from something a bit heavier duty! so I'd check your bay carefully....

lol i will have a go but i dont know were to start or whaat to look at etc :S lol

Could be the bolt that secures the alternator underneath as it looks similar and is the same side of the engine if they're laid out the same as the mk1s!

Is a bit short though so not entirely sure.

the fuel rail guard is the front part on this pic link, the polished bit in front of the engine (not the polished pipes that are the engine) if that makes sense. The bolts go into the front of it..

i thought the fuel rail bolts were torx sockets?

that does look like a fairly substantial bolt however, so i'd definatley be trying to find out where it has come from!

try to have a look at all the pulleys for sure.

Could be anywhere but I can't think of anywhere important/at all that uses allen capbolts off the top of my head. All hex headed or torx afaik. You'll be fine.

Money on it being the bolt that holds the aux belt tensioner on, i am hoping its recently been changed and its the old one, if its the new one you have a small problem!!

It's not a fuel rail guard bolt trust me I've have to replace mine twice! Notice it when you here a rattling coming from the front of the car. One end screws in to the engine block then the fuel rail guard fits over the two bolts ready to be bolted down..... for some reason mine have sheared twice.

so it sholdnt be the new one... how can i check this myself to have a look? it would be awfully expensive if that went kabooong!! :( :( :S

it's definately not a new bolt anyway.

sbv, are you thinking it is one of three that hold the pulley on?

They "mechanics" tend to drop a few things and you'll be surprised what you'll find if you take the plastic cover off from under the engine. Found a spanner in mine been there for a while by the state of it as well as the sheared off bolts.

Right, not sure if you can see it basically, there are 3 bolts on the tensioner, 2 x female torx bits, (star looking things) they go onto the spring of the tensioner, and then where the actual housing bolts into there is a bolt like that, but its going to be virtually impossible to see i would say without taking the mount off etc!

In my opinion, if thats the good one, it would have gone tits up already, it would never make it to the floor without getting wrapped up.

ABSOLUTE L O L !!!

Its not engine cover or fuel rail.

It looks like the one that goes near the aux belt tensioner that I think it part of the alternator mount?? Youve got the square bit where you adjust the tension, and then just to the side a bit lower theres one like that sits just behind the belt.

f**k me, my tools are to expensive to be leaving in peoples engine bay's, i would leave a finger first!!!!
