Why did you buy your Clio 182 Cup?

  Monaro VXR/Cupra TDi
Just wondered what enticed other Clio 182 Cup owners to buying such a car?

I bought mine as a primary daily driver. Covering between 50-75 miles every day.

I chose it over a Fiesta ST as it's lighter with more power. Over a Civic Type-R as again it's lighter returns more MPG and cheaper to buy. Over a Mini Cooper-S for the same reasons as the Civic. Also because EVO magazine liked it so much. Lastly because it allows me to have a performance car for everyday usage, unlike my Impreza.:)

because i couldnt afford the Lotus that I test drove, was 2k above my budget.
The 182 seemed an obvious upgrade to my 172... little did I know that it wasn't actually any better.

Mine's not a cup though, its a 182 with the cup suspension and spoilers.

When you say Lotus I take it you mean an Elise. I an Elise S1 in the earlier part of this year. I wouldn't say it was that much quicker than my 182. Also it felt like it had snappy oversteer. Which isn't for me. Though I never trully explored it's limits.

With regards to the 182 not being any better than the 172, do you base your opinion on accelerative/top end terms?

  106 GTi
Closest new car I could find to replace my 205 GTi. Again a 182 with cup packs here aswell. I was getting an Escort Cosworth but it would not fit in the garage.

Test drove a 182 on a wim one Sat morning and loved it - seemed to have some feedback through the front wheels without the Playstation steering wheel of the CTR which was also on the short list. Pre the 182 I had always loved French Hot Hatches, mainly Peugeots and the 206 GTi 180 was a weak option compared to the Clio.

A random Sat morning test drive in a car that felt almost as good to drive as the old 1.9 saw and deal struck and an order placed on the following Monday !

yeah S1 elise. was 12k for a good one when i was looking. You need to get them set up properly to prevent that snappy oversteer you experienced.

I preferred the raw feeling of the 172, the fact it felt more connected to the road, better steering response and feedback. Speed wise it was exactly the same as my current 182.

Same reason

Drove past a renault garage saw her sitting there then sat in her then I brought her that day

Love driving the beast :)

  FF 182 w/cup packs
I got mine cos i had an £11K company car budget and it couldn't be more than a year old, so i chose the 182 as it was the best spec'd, quickest and newest car i could get for £11k. I drove a megane coupe before and it never let me down so i stuck with Renault.

Not a cup but all I wanted was body coloured bumpers :p lol

lol!

i bought mine for the cruise control, cos i love racing blue with stripes and lastly.. cos im an idiot for spending a ludicrous amount of money on insurance monthly :(

Hmmm..Some interesting opinions on reasons for purchasing.

At first glance I wasn't very keen at all on the style or shape of the Clio. My first car was a Renault 5, a GT Turbo (Raider). I loved it's looks and I was fond of the Clio that superseeded it. After that it all went down hill. I balme Ford for this with the introduction of the Ka. Nasty new edge styling. Affected most manufacturers, feeling they ought to follow Ford's lead in modern design. Would've been ok if they'd of got it right.:nono:

So I bought mine on purely on performance and running costs. I must say I've warmed to it's styling over the past few months.:)

Best bang for buck imo!!! Also like hot hatches too, dont like big cars, no need.

the car i had before was a 1.25 fiesta mk 6 got from new (my 1st car) n i thrashed it as you do at that age, after 3 years of having it, i reversed in2 a chain scratching all the rear on the right hand side, it needed 2 new tyres at the front, mot was due, there was a clinking from the front right wheel, someone had reversed in2 me causing all my front to be f**ked (cracked bumper, right wing bent out, grill broke, light fitting snapped, bonnet twisted) i went to renault and asked what they give me if anything, the offered me a good price for it so i p/x it and went for my 182rb :)

wooooooooooo! lol

  Silver 182 Cup Packs
I bought mine due to making a very big mistake.

I took it for a test drive, didn't even haggle.

And in a quote from one of my favourite films

"She Will Be Mine" and then she was.......:)

  Clio 182 - Cup Suspension
I bought mine after test driving a 197 and deciding it was crap. Love the looks and chassis, but not the stupidly light steering or the 100 or so kg of excess flab the car is carrying.
