Why would you buy a cup over a full fat 172?

  Better than yours. C*nt.
Virtually same power output but the weight difference causes the Cup to watch the 5 sail past.

Torque makes most of the difference - Similar story with Clarkson's Zonda/XJ220 race. Pagani is lighter/more powerful, Jag has turbos and torque.

And a lot of you have missed that I was stereotyping : ok, there are exceptions, but seriously, drive around Notts Trent Uni and Derby. You see cup after cup after cup - and I can tell you now it wasn't for the weight as usually they're five up and full of 'choonz'. Innit.

I really like the cups look, but when i got my 172 i thought about how often i was going to be tracking it etc and for me the nicer seats and aircon etc won as its powerful enough for everday driving and its just that bit nicer inside personaly.

they could have 14 stone of 'choonz' in their cars and still be level pegged with yours.

how you look down on 172 cups is laughable, to 99% of people its a clio, like yours

:)

Sorry to rain on your parade you can't get 5 in a Cup there is no middle belt;)

bitter?

Not really, no, because if I was really that sad as to want to go as fast as is humanly possible I wouldn't be in a Clio. I'd be sat atop an aluminium fuel tank, on one wheel, giving them the finger and STILL pulling away from them.

The only Clio that is anything other than a daily driver is the 3litre V6 - it's impractical, and as such has an excuse for being designed for fun/entertainment/speed. The 2litre variants have a boot, and back seats, and are designed for people who want to get the odd kick from driving but without losing thier comforts.

just accept that the weight makes a difference. If you say torque make a difference and the 172/182 have the same torque and bhp......

lose 89kg, what happens

its not hard ;)

In my opinion (and this is mine, nobody elses) you buy a Cup because you can't afford the decent ones. I don't think anyone can seriously argue that it's a raw, faster, more exciting experience. I can have a raw, fast and exciting experience in mine - while I have my better lights to see where I'm going and my gorgeous seats which I could sleep in! And my driver aids for when I'm caught out...

IMO thats really the reason you did'nt buy a Cup. Not why people do buy Cup's. Some times maybe. Personally price did'nt come into it at all.

Ralph - you were so right!

Nice edit, but still - I don't look down on them. Credit to Renault for doing it, but it's wasted in my opinion. It's something I'm entitled to and something I'll stand by.

Baldylocks - you hit the nail on the head. It IS the reason I didn't buy one, but is a discussion forum not a place where you share your opinion with others who may use it to make a decision?

As it stands, so far all I've done is share my opinion and had to justify it. It seems some jumped up fool has taken offence to this (obviously fitting into this category) and decided to challenge it in an argument he can't win, whereas if he'd just shut up and said it's the way he wanted it to look and feel, I can't say anything towards that. It's the reason I bought my old Smart! It looked fun and was great to drive. And before anyone tries this weight argument again, it put out 120bhp and weighed 750kg. The Clio is rediculously quick in comparison, and thats 4 14 stone men vs. 60bhp...

i went for a cup becuase theres less of them abaout, and i wnated turinis, and cup spoiler. plus i got mine at an absolute steal. It turns loads of heads, it drives amazingly, yet its useable enough for everyday driving.

It all comes down to those times when ur on your own,its 11pm, the temp guage says about 12C and the roads are bone dry. All of a sudden you remember why you brought that car...

And back to hitting the nail on the head, why the f**k have I just sat here for half an hour with some t**t building a table on the TV?

Not at all, how you can say most CUP owners can't afford a normal 172 is just plain

You just can't accept that i have an opinion thats different to yours

You took the bait

Rolls eyes. You guys are so simple. A 'multi-skilled engineer' that can bicker and weld badly at the same time and someone who thinks getting a loan for a set of recaros after buying a cheap car makes him rich. Marvellous!

Chill out will you both. You took the old cheap bait way too easily. I could write a book about this s**t - I'd make a fortune on it!

I went to Trent for 3 years. Can't remember seeing one Cup tbh - and believe me I was looking, I was pretty obsessed with getting one throughout the final year!

Have to say I haven't, but I can't weld so can hardly talk! Last time I tried to weld aluminium it fell apart while I was stood on it. That was a few years ago now! But I've repaired quite successfully and restored a Triumph Stag, which, being British and 1970s car, it was built when the welders and the painters were on strike.

The GTT is nothing in comparison to the cheesegrater floor that had!

I think the people I was talking to/referring to have sussed that that was a joke...

To be fair, I thought I'd actually found someone with a sense of humour - but after that last comment I think it's fair to say you've all met every expectation of the people I see on these forums and summed up why I come on here : to take the piss out of people who are easy to wind up and have a good laugh before I go to sleep!

What was wrong with the last comment ?????

The one that was last when I originally clicked reply! b*****d server.

The one where he decides he's going to tell the world how wonderful his job is and how he bought the seats outright, and decides to call me a gimp.

Clever, really.

Nothing against you mate. Not yet anyway! :D

(like he knows me)

Look up, above the post you just edited, where it says quite plainly I was joking.

You seem to be struggling with reading plain english tonight - it might be worth going to sleep and having a fresh read in the morning to see where you've missed key points in posts. ;)

Hmmmm, i dont come on a forum to wind people up, i come on a forum to make friends with the same interests as me.

Each to there own and everything, but maybe you should try a different attitude mate, you might like it :)

I have friends where I live, where I work and where I socialise. If I find someone on here with the same odd sense of humour and similar interests then bonus, but I meet 'mates' every day and in the nicest way possible, I'll never meet a 'Friend' off the net.

As for sod Trisha, no!!! I like watching the arguments. Makes even bad days seem great!
