Bought my car back in 2011 as a cambelt failure, did all the belts etc and got it running but it had the typical rattly noisy topend. I stripped the belts back again and replaced the dephaser pulley with a used item, but it also rattled so assumed I'd been sold a dud. I did think about spending even more money on a new one (and another weekend fecking around fitting it), but i'm cheap so I left it, it was noisy but the car drove!
Car then sat for a year but ive since done about 6000 miles in the car and last week it started loosing water, I thought 'great' the HG going after 6k, typical! Luckily it was traced to the waterpump so a fairly cheap easy repair.
Spent saturday afternoon swapping it, fired it up expecting the distinctive rattle like its a 100k 1980s ford... but to my surprise I had a delightfully quiet car, it was purring like a pussy cat. Turns out the dephaser rattle was in fact waterpump rattle! Glad I was cheap skate.

Lets hope the sun keeps shining this week so I can fully enjoy ragging it round Brands on Friday!

  Many.
That's why it's a good idea to remove the aux belt and fire it up for a couple of mins to prove its not something else.
