Written Off - Part 2

  Tangoed Works
Garage has said that cost of repairs are going to be around £4500. Car valued at £6000-6500. Insurance company tell me that as long as repairs are cheaper than the value of the car they wil fix it.

Is that definitely going to be the case? Dont really want it back tbh. Had a courtesy car for over a week now at a cost of £161 a day. Does this go towards the total cost of the claim, as the repairs can only be done from the 12th Sep and will take at least a week or two, so courtesy car will be held for one month.

What do you guys think will happen next?

Thats got to be a write off surely.
Can't see them spending that much on a courtesy car, ontop og £4.5k repairs on a car worth £6.5k.

Cant you have them write it off, get the £6.5k, then you buy the car back cheap and fix it + sell it on?

More profit?

which garage quoted that? take it to one of the big accident repair centres for a quote then it will get written off lol.

  RB 200 Cup!
should be written off i reckon

gotta ask tho - how the f**k is a courtesy car 161 quid a day!?

its a mazda mx5 1.8, saw the invoice paperwork, i too was shocked

as for buying it back and fixing it, thats way too much of a pain in the crack, let someone else do that.

just need to strip out all the stereo equipment out of it now.

they are going to have to pay the courtesy car untill either you get yours back or you get a big fat cheque in, they wont write it off because they will have to pay you the price of the car about £6000 - £6500 + the cost of the courtesy car, leaves them more out of pocket than if the just pay the repair bill + courtesy car,

i crashed mine the value of my car was £3500, my repair bill was £3000 ;) it got fixed!!!

well the courtesy car so far comes to £1288. Prob be monday before i hear anything... so thats £1932.

If its £4500 to fix that = £6500 so pretty much pointless paying more for hire car whilst it will take another 2 weeks minimum to have all the damage repaired.

their getting pumped for the hire car then the mazda mx5 is in the same group as the clio SP2 on the abi rates which is about 72 quid a day IIRC

I saw the invoice for a hire scooter i had for 5 weeks when my scooter was wrote off back in 2006. 50cc Scooter rrp £1599 (2.5 years old at the time)

Total cost for 5 weeks hire £1502

and people wonder why insurance is so expensive

The cost of the courtesy car i think is not taken into account when writing off the car. I had a 1.8 MX5 when i last had a claim, but it was only £88 a day, and i thought that was steep! They wanted to fix my car as they said it'd cost £3300 to fix, but as i was crashed into so far from home (200 miles) i asked them how they planned to deliver it to me as obvioulsy i couldnt collect and they basically asked me if i would like the engineer to have another look at it for me! Two weeks later, cheque for £5300 minus £500 excess arrived.... There's ways round things. If its a well known insurance company you should have the choice of where its fixed, tell them to send it to Renault and the repair bill will double! Job Done. Good luck!

depends on the type of claim tbh ive wrote a few cars off in work where the repair would be say 400 less than the value of the vehicle but we will write it off because the hire charges etc will be more.

In the other hand we have repaired above examples and only wrote them off if the total repair excluding hire is more than the value

I'd be amazed if they didn't write that off. When I used to work at an insurance company, any repairs over 60% of the value of the vehicle was a write off. I've noticed similar looking calculations from when mates have made big claims.
